Leo's gaze was pinned on the message while he watched the dark tall figure walking up to his fallen body. He had to admit he was in over his head when he decided to face this hitman head-on. While this was mostly due to curiosity, Leo knew he did this because he wished to grow in this aspect.
Strength comes in various forms.
Leo had proven to be mentally capable, but his physical prowess has always been lacking and today proved that.
Left with no choice but to follow the instructions of the system, Leo quickly tried to stop thinking of what to do. He felt a weird but familiar feeling that he only got when sleeping with women after he gained the system.
Grrrrrr!
The sound of a low but threatening growl resonated from all sides of the alley leaving the hitman confused. He paused his approach and looked around a bit before turning his attention back to Leo only to see that his fallen prey had already gotten back on his feet.
Leo's eyes were covered by his messy hair and his fists raised. He stood on his toes bouncing back and forth while his eyes gazed at the hitman lifelessly. Unlike before his eyes were void of all forms of emotions and his demeanor had changed completely.
The hitman frowned at this feeling slightly intimidated and decided to tread carefully. As someone who had done this repeatedly, he had encountered a lot of people in this line of work. If there was one thing the hitman had learned, it was to never underestimate anyone.
With his hands raised and his guard on, the hitman began approaching again but he looked more cautious now.
As soon as he was a few meters away from Leo, the hitman stopped for a second, the alley going silent as he did.
Swoosh!
The hitman lunged forward again, throwing a quick right jab, aiming for the center of Leo's face.
"Hehe."
Following a cold sneer, Leo tilted his head to the left to dodge the attack.
Swoosh.
The punch brushed past Leo and from the depth of the darkness looming around them, his fist tore through the shadow, striking the hitman in the face.
Bang.
Swoosh.
The hitman staggered back with his right cheek reddened. He would have loved to have a second or more to recover, but his opponent seemed strangely motivated to end him.
The hitman quickly regained his footing and ducked low to dodge Leo's follow-up punch.
As the fist flew by him, the hitman caught Leo's outstretched hand and tried to flip him but he was unable o do so. Instead, he felt like he was trying to flip a truck.
'How come?'
The hitman was stunned and turned only to meet the indifference in Leo's eyes.
Bang.
Leo headbutted the man causing him to let go and stagger back. Blood squirted out of the man's nostrils as he staggered back with his hands covering his bloodied nose. His dark shades were broken and had fallen off, revealing his face, but Leo didn't seem to care about his identity.
Bam.
The hitman felt a blow to his belly which made him feel like throwing up, but he wasn't even given that chance. Leo grabbed the man by the jacket, tossing him to the wall by the side before throwing a fast blow at him.
Bang.
Bang.
Bang.
The few brave people bold enough to take a look at what was happening when they overheard all the noise were disturbed by the bloody scene before them. The hitman had his hands raised as if trying to defend, but he was already wobbly and weak. He just kept taking Leo's blows continuously with no end seemingly near.
Blood splattered on the ground with each blow and after the seventh the man finally fell to the ground like a log of wood.
"Argh."
The hitman groaned weakly and raised his head. His face was completely swollen with his right eye covered by the swelling. In his sight was the gun on the wet ground with bullets littered everywhere.
With no other choice, the hitman began crawling toward the gun, but he was stopped right away. A boot stepped on his finger and bone-breaking sounds could be heard.
"Aaaaaaaaaaah!" The man cried out in pain and looked up with visible fear in his eyes.
This pretty boy who couldn't even stand up to him has to some point suddenly changed and become the devil.
"You should know when to give up. There are some things you cannot defend against in this world, and I am one of them." Leo's cold voice rang fiercely, sending shivers down the spine of the hitman.
"So tell me, who sent you?" Leo asked but he got an unexpected response.
"Hahahahaha. Kid, do you know what you are trying to get yourself involved in? You still have a chance to walk away from all of this now." The hitman tried to intimidate Leo. But unfortunately for him, Leo could literally smell his fear.
"I'm guessing Tyler sent you... Cute." Leo's voice was cold and resolute enough to make the hitman shut up.
The terrified look on his face was confirmation for Leo.
"Now, I know who sent you. I have no need for you. This is the part where you give me a reason why I should let you live." Leo said with frosty eyes.
Gulp!
The man seemed terrified at first, but then the fear soon turned to anger, and he began cursing in rage.
"Who the fuck do you think you are? Do you know who stands behind me? You should be very terrified, little boy." The hitman raged as Leo could only flash a mocking smile.
"Don't be a fool. If you know who my backer is, you will shit yourself on the spot." Leo's eyes carried that contempt that can only be seen in the eyes of a superior looking down on a lesser one.
"We know who you are!" The hitman hissed and Leo laughed loudly.
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You're nothing compared to us."
Pearls of crazed laughter echoed through the alley.
"You are the ones who should be scared. If you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes back. Tell that to whoever sent you.'' Leo said before throwing a kick to the exposed face of the hitman, knocking him out on the spot.
Leo began going through the belongings of the hitman. He found a wallet, a picture of himself and the staff he had just spoken to earlier.
"It seems Tyler noticed when the waiter saw the rashes. This is one meticulous motherfucker. If he was the one running Lance Inc. they would have done a better job at covering their tracks." Leo gave Tyler a rare praise.
Just before Leo was about to leave he noticed a tattoo on the back of the man's neck. It was a tattoo of a nine-headed serpent.
"Nine-headed snake? No... A Hydra..." Leo muttered with a deep frown.
Things are beginning to get interesting.
