It was a quiet night. The wind gushed through the majestic trees. Bird-like noises resonated everywhere and a lone squirrel woke up from it's sleep. It was in an unfamiliar place, and looked rather confused. In front of him stood a big humanoid creature. The creature had a fish in its hands and it was completely drenched. The fish had a nice aroma coming off it and it was seemingly roasted. The squirrel drooled while staring at the fish. He tried making a move before the humanoid turned it's head and looked at the squirrel.
As the humanoid looked at the squirrel, it's instincts began to scream which caused the squirrel to cower in fear. The squirrel hastily made a decision and abandoned the idea of stealing the fish and quickly fled into the wilderness...
…
Hisato noticed a small animal running through the grass. He considered chasing it, but decided not to since it would take too much effort. He took a bite from a roasted fish and a satisfied expression formed on his face. It took him quite a lot of effort to catch all this fish. It gave him a feeling of accomplishment. He grabbed the bucket which was filled with fish and went back to the cave. They had gotten quite accustomed to their current life. Although there weren't luxurious things like computers or beds, they made it as comfortable as they could.
Kuro sat on his shoulder and happily meowed. His eyes were focused on the fish and it seemed as if a smile formed on his face. Hisato petted his head
"Just wait until auntie cooks it." He thought about the delicious food which Amera had made so far and began to drool. The past few days, Hisato and Amera had gotten quite close. Hisato was even closer to her than he was to Zen. Although that was most likely because she can cook so well. Amera on the other hand had begun to see Hisato as family. Once she met Zen again, she would definitely threaten him to adopt Hisato.
"Auntie! We are back!" He enthusiastically said. Truth to be told, he was rather hungry and couldn't wait for more food. His snacks had all been eaten and thus he could only eat normal food.
Amera walked out of the cave wearing a grey t-shirt and a pair of jeans. Hisato never figured out how she got these since when they arrived, she wore her military clothes and didn't have any baggage. Amera responded by saying it's a secret.
"How many times did I tell you not to call me auntie? It makes me feel old."
"What do I call you then?" Slightly tilting his head to the right, he looked at Amera with innocence in his eyes.
Sighing deeply Amera looked at him. She really wondered how he was able to look so cute, yet when danger arrives he becomes an entirely different person. She clearly remembered the first day of their arrival here, those mooses stood no chance against him. "Aahh, why do I even care. You can call me however you want, you brat."
Hisato nodded and placed the wooden bucket on the ground before he walked into the cave and dropped onto a comfy looking fur. A small groan exited his mouth as he looked at the wall. Kuro laid down next to him.
Amera once again sighed as she looked at him. She grabbed a knife and a few other things before she began to ready the fish. Once she finished, she grabbed some other ingredients and began to cook the fish above a campfire. It didn't take long before the air was filled with a delicious aroma. Some beasts were obviously attracted to it and were slowly approaching the cave.
Amera gave a quick glance into the wilderness, this wasn't the first time monsters approached them. It happened quite frequently actually. Each time a group of monsters would appear and attack them. The amount varies each time and all the monsters looked different. Although they were extremely different, they all shared one thing, which was their unique appearance...
Amera hummed as she only felt three pressences. She murmured under her breath saying that they were quite lucky today. Even though the monsters are easily taken care of by either Hisato or her, it's still annoying since each time, they would need to cleanse everything so no other monsters show up. The meat isn't even edible. Hisato was able to use the fur for beds though.
She calmly continued roasting the fish while humming a song…
...
The monsters kept closing in and growling could be heard from every side. Amera smirked before getting up and stretching out a bit.
Just like she expected, one of the monsters dashed forward and commenced its attack. She calmly observed the monster, scanning it from top to bottom.
As she scrutinised it, the quadrupedal creature appeared to have a body covered in a black fur with strands of pinkish-purple fur; white iris and dangerous blood-red pupils. A series of wing-like furs covered all four limbs, which ended in four claws with vicious nails. While on its back, it had a furry tail similar to a wolf.
Once she finished, she clicked her tongue before activating her quirk which immediately caused the monster to cease its movement. It fell to the ground and looked at Amera with confusion in its eyes. Although it didn't take long before it regained it's composition. It tried to free itself from Amera's grasp, but seemed unsuccessful.
Suddenly, the monster began to loudly screech as if it was in pain. It's expression began to look rather dreadful and it began to struggle even more.
Upon seeing this, Amera frowned. The monster seemed afraid and tried to run? Was it scared of her? She shook her head. That couldn't be it; the monster attacked her and showed no fear before. So why would it be scared now?
Her curiosity got the best of her, and she released the monster from her ability. That exact moment, it turned around, before giving Amera a last glance. A weird sound exited its mouth as it slightly tilted his head. A cold breeze passed by and the monster immediately dashed off into the wilderness. The other two presences had long vanished. The entire forest fell silent.
Suddenly, Hisato woke up and dashed out of the cave. His senses were tingling, which hadn't happened in years. The only times it happened when there was danger.
He looked around but the only thing he saw was Amera and the campfire with fish on it. He found it suspicious and he began to wonder why his instinct triggered. Just like Hisato, Kuro walked out of the cave and began hissing towards a certain direction.
"What's wrong?" Amera was rather confused. Although she too had an uneasy feeling, it wasn't as strong as Hisato's or Kuro's. Hisato had lived in this world for years and developed a strong sense of danger and abnormal instincts while Kuro was born with it and it had evolved to another level. While Amera on the other hand was of course strong, but didn't have abnormal instincts. She had above average instincts since she was trained by the spectre, but that was it.
"Danger." Hisato said. He looked rather serious and was on guard.
All of a sudden, the ground began to tremble. Loud noises resonated in the distance and the last remaining animals began to flee simultaneously.
It was an exodus on a massive scale...
Here is dah chapter.
