Adeline’s POV
The wind had picked up on the drive from campus to Zale’s apartment, and throughout that time I had come to the shocking realization of something I hadn’t noticed before. Zale… was clingy.
I didn’t mean in the verbal sense, though he sometimes did have his two cents to say about how I shifted a little from him when we hit a speed bump, but he was a lot more touchy than what I had previously imagined. Zale’s hand, which he didn’t use to drive, was either on my knee or holding my own.
I didn’t think much of it until I tried to move away and his entire face contorted into visible disagreement. He didn’t do much when I pulled away besides looking like someone popped his balloon, which I tried not to laugh at, I felt so bad I eventually took his hand in my own again.
The only time I released it was when the two of us hopped out of his car and went up to his hotel room. It was the one on the highest floor, no shock there, and I had to endure the staring all the way up.
