Still at the restaurant
While standing and imagining the scenario that took place, I had from behind me"Hello….I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself to you. I'm Charlotte and I'm a friend to the family of Liam." I'm glad to meet with Liam's wife. I recommend him for his good eyesight, you're really a beautiful woman, she said this taking me aback. She's so nice, I uttered in my mind.
"Uhm, thank you for the compliment."
"That's true, by the way, you're welcome. I really wish we become such good friends."
"That's what you think, but I don't think that's going to work out from the look of things."
I've been served a divorce letter by Liam yesterday and it's hell-bent on me to sign up.
What am I doing confiding in a total stranger about the fact that Liam wants a divorce, Charlotte looks shell- shocked at my words.
Her mood changed, I suspected to have been happy for the words she heard me say but it is gone as soon as it appeared. Just leaving wondering if I ever imagined that.
While we spoke, Liam interrupted our conversation.
"You shouldn't leave unannounced while having dinner with the clients. That doesn't look good." He tell her.
I'm sorry she said. Just wanted to be sure about your wife's well being. Just wondering if I'm the only one who noticed the condescending way she mentioned the word 'your wife.'
Liam cuts her halfway. That's not necessary for a grown up like her, she can take care of herself.
From Liam's look, I can tell he's suspecting what must have transpired between us.
Look Liam, you don't have to talk over my head as if I'm a child, but he ignored me paying more attention to Charlotte.
Charlotte, go back and take care of the guests at the table with a soft voice. This he only did when we met newly
Charlotte replied in a soft voice, ok Liam. Her eyes fixed in his, she touched his arms and then politely nods at me before leaving.
Charlotte is pretending, I can tell from her actions after that Liam turned his back at her. She has shown her true colors. She actually did turn and sneers at me after that she had gotten to the door.
The was a pin drop silence which cause discomfort to me after that she had left.
I could not hold my breath any longer, I now broke silence.
Who's she to you Liam, and why has she totally dominated the whole place? I asked Liam she's my business partner,
"I told you, I'm going to sign an important deal tonight." Well we've signed the deal and we're here to celebrate it, others will be here.i hope to receive the divorce papers signed, because I need that to have been done so everything can be settled once and for all.
I don't believe you Liam. Why would a business partner so attach herself to you and be parading around you all over the place.
That's isn't my business, that doesn't matter, you can believe whatever you want to believe.
At this, you don't really need to know much about me.
I'll just try to maintain my composure and not to create a meaningless and silly composure scenario.
"How on Earth do you think you can achieve that just tonight?"
Oh, that your classy girlfriend whom you have chosen to sign your business acquaintance? And you hope I'll sign the papers before figuring out who she right, so you can carry on your sordid affairs? I asked him in anger and tears of hurt at his betrayal falling off my face, but he looks extremely bored and nonchalant and that pisses me off.
"You just have to be classy like Charlotte and stop acting up like an illiterate commoner. You just saw the way she comported herself.
Do you know how embarrassing it is when people see your girlfriend hanging around all over the places? And it's even worst because you don't show such affection towards me.
Liam, you're so cold, you are not acting as though I'm your wife, you do rather allow your girlfriend hanging around you.
"Now listen, you do better comport yourself Emily, you're embarrassing me in front of all this people. Why am I not surprised? It's sort of your thing."
"Oh, so now I'm an embarrassment to you?"
"You're Emily, a very big embarrassment to me. You would act your age instead of throwing tantrum like a toddler over trival things." With how tone so patronizing, Liam told me.
