Chương 21: Chapter 21 - Ophelia's Battle Pt.3

Ophelia closed her eyes, feeling power coursing through her body as she began to gather all the spiritual energy in the thunderclouds. She could already feel its power slowly corroding her right arm.

"Do you want to drag us both to death?" The man from the Water Guild frowned as he saw the mass of lightning that seemed to warp space itself.

"Don't think so highly of yourself," Ophelia's eyes flickered with electric arcs, giving her an overwhelming appearance. "The only person going down today is going to be you." The lightning around her rumbled as she finished speaking, and with no sign of fear in her eyes, she jumped down the earth pillar, aiming her spear directly at the man.

The tamer from the Water Guild had a terrible expression on his face. If he had just been able to continue flooding the arena for some more time, victory would have been in his hands. However, it seemed that things would not be so simple.

"Tsk! Let's see if you can keep your words then!" The man clasped his hands, and the water began to gather around him in response. "Hippogator! Earth Wall!" Even with the high concentration of salt in the water, blocking off the lightning attack would still be hard, and it required the cooperation of the man and all his pets.

The first defensive layer was made of two earth walls that the Hippogator had summoned. Behind them, all the water that previously flooded the arena now gathered in a sphere, rotating at extreme speeds.

The man from the Water Guild and his pets all stayed inside the water sphere, gazing intently at the sturdy earth walls. The first Earth Wall instantly collapsed as Ophelia's spear smashed against it.

The sheer power of her first strike not only shook the arena but also affected the protective barrier. All the organizers of the tournament had their attention drawn to the fight in the fourth ring.

The power that Ophelia wielded now wasn't something that a Gold Ranked Tamer had. It seemed closer to that of a beginner-stage Lord Monster.

"That girl sure is bold," Carl, the Guild Leader of the Nature Guild, watched the fight with gleaming eyes.

"Bold? More like stupid, isn't it?" The leader of the Earth Guild, Ethan, laughed loudly, loving the entertainment that the fight provided. "She is just giving the others in her group a free pass to the next round."

"Unfortunately, this is true," Saurus grinned. He hated to agree with Ethan, but his words were completely true. "A good tamer should know that there are times when backing down is the only correct choice."

Leo, the leader of the fire guild, frowned as he listened to the conversation. He had learned the same lesson the year before when he lost one of his pets to Ethan. "It's easy for us to say that," he said. "Before Tamers, we are humans, and sometimes our pride speaks louder than reason."

Ethan's laughter echoed even louder than before. "Hahaha, is this something you learned from experience?"

Leo's eyes burned with fury as he gazed at Ethan. But he chose to remain silent, knowing there was nothing he could do to the man. As he watched the battle, he couldn't help but give quick glances to Ava, the leader of the Water guild. He and her late father had been close, so he was more attuned to the matters of the Water guild than most guild leaders. Leo knew that many of the Water Guild elders were unhappy that such a young girl was chosen as their leader. He was also sure that Ava had grown up with the girl from the Lightning guild, so he quickly understood why the stakes in the fight seemed so high.

Unlike the first earth wall, the second managed to resist the initial impact, but it still crumbled in a fraction of a second, finally clearing the way to the rotating water sphere.

The man from the Water Guild bit his lip in surprise. He never expected the first two defensive layers to fall so quickly, and with haste, he and his pets began to increase the energy in the water sphere.

Ophelia gave the water sphere an unbothered look and raised her spear once again. "You think a little water is going to stop me?" With a flick of her spear, all the energy surrounding it gathered just above the spearhead, forming a small ball of condensed lightning.

The ball crackled with power as Ophelia charged forward, her spear pointed directly at the water sphere. The man from the water guild quickly ordered his pets to form a defensive line, hoping to hold back Ophelia's attack. The Hippogator summoned a few more earth walls, but this time, inside the water sphere, while the rest of the monsters reinforced the water sphere together.

Gritting her teeth, Ophelia felt the berserk energy had already drained much of her strength, yet, with victory so close, she had no choice but to endure it. As Ophelia's lightning sphere collided with the water sphere, it created an explosion of energy that sent shockwaves rippling through the arena. The water sphere managed to resist the initial impact, but the lightning energy slowly began to disperse, coursing all through the sphere.

Despite his barrier resisting the attack, the man from the water guild seemed to be left in disbelief, as he noticed that the sheer temperature of the lightning ball was steadily evaporating the water sphere.

Grand clouds of vapor emerged as the lightning ball continued to press on the water sphere, causing the water's rotation to begin to slow down. Ophelia's eyes flashed as she noticed a small hole opening, and with a happy smile, she thrust once again, opening a path to the inside of the water sphere.

"Shall we end this?" she whispered softly, the burden caused by the great amounts of energy already too unbearable for her to hold on to any longer.

Even behind an earth wall, her opponent still felt chills running down his spine as he heard her words. He felt the urge to rebuke, yet the sound reminiscent of many birds chirping caused him to freeze in fear.

Ophelia held her spear with both hands and took a deep breath before releasing all the power of the lightning ball in the tip of her spear. The high concentration of lightning spiritual energy swiftly shot forward, transforming into a ray of pure electricity that consumed everything in its path.

The blinding light of the electric ray completely blurred the area inside the arena, causing even the mirror screens to malfunction, and all the spectators could only anxiously wait to see if the girl was useful.

However, even after the light dispersed, the view of the arena was still entirely obscured by clouds of smoke created by the shattering of the water sphere.

Edward held his knees in excitement as he saw a silhouette appearing amidst the smoke in the arena.

After a short second that seemed like an eternity, Ophelia emerged from the smoke and debris. Her face was pale like a dead person, and blood flowed out of her mouth and nose. However, her biggest injury was by far her right arm, which was completely charred by the incredible temperature of her last attack.

The golden spear that she previously wielded had now turned into a mass of molten iron lying not far from her feet. But her state couldn't even compare to that of her opponent and his pets, who now lay on the ground breathing faintly. The worst one was the Hippogator, which acted as the frontline, taking most of the damage.

The big monster now looked like a lump of molten flesh and scale, its body completely covered with unsightly burns. The Wavebreaker Siren and the Sea Serpent were left in a somewhat better state, but their injuries were still severe enough to make the people watching wonder if they would ever recover.

As the tamer of the water guild had been protected by his pets, his injuries were the least gruesome. However, what was left of his body was still covered by grotesque wounds, and he was missing a leg and one arm.

The tournament organizers quickly declared Ophelia the winner and opened the protective barrier, rushing in to give medical aid to the competitors. However, they weren't the only ones who entered the arena.

Edward watched in confusion as a girl seated with the rest of the guild's leaders jolted up and jumped toward the arena.

From her robes, he could tell that she was the leader of the water guild. Surprisingly, she didn't walk to the man from her guild. Instead, she treaded carefully towards the victorious Ophelia.

"Sigh… Look at the mess that you made…" Ava's eyes were filled with concern as she looked at Ophelia's right arm. "Why did you go so far?"

Ophelia tried to answer her childhood friend, yet no matter how much she tried, her voice never left her throat. Instead, she just fainted in Ava's arms.
