Kenji stared at the array of large glass tubes filled with a dark purple liquid arranged throughout the room in a series of rows and columns. Each cylindrical container was nearly ten feet across and twice that in height, meaning it had taken no small amount of effort to install the hundred plus containers.

"What the hell is going on here," Honenuki asked as he looked over Kenij's shoulder with wide fearful eyes, "What is that stuff?"

Kenji could only shake his head before he took a hesitant step forward, "I have no idea."

A hand shot out and grabbed Kenji's shoulder, stopping him dead and he looked over to see Tsu staring up at him, "This is beyond us, we should turn back, find another way."

Kenji reached up and gently pried Tsu's hand off his shoulder, "I'll scout ahead and see if I can find a way out of this place."

Before anyone could object Kenji dashed out of the tunnel as his void armor covered him from head to toe, the inky black robe blending in with the poorly lit room.

Covering the bottom of his feet with abyss Kenji didn't make a sound as he ducked behind the nearest glass tube and paused. When no alarms went off Kenji let out a sigh of relief but as he went to stand up Kenji caught a glimpse of something inside the tube, a large dark spot floating within the purple liquid.

Peering through the glass Kenji didn't see anything at first, then his eyes adjusted, picking out the outline of a worker ant. But as Kenji picked up more of the finer details he realized that everything about the dread beast was just wrong. Its eyes were two different sizes, and instead of having a smooth sturdy carapace, the ant's body was riddled with fleshy lumps that were painful just to look at.

"Is it diseased?" Kenji muttered to himself as he took a step back and moved over to the next vial, only to find another disfigured ant covered in the same cancerous warts but this one also possessed a massive pair of mandibles to the point where they seemed cumbersome for the ant to move around with.

"They aren't diseased, they're mutants," Kenji said as he looked down to see a plaque bolted to the floor in front of the vial, "Subject B728."

Kenji felt as if he had just discovered another piece of a puzzle and a part of him wanted to find out the full picture. But shoving that part of himself to the back of his mind Kenji focused on the main task at hand.

Moving through the maze of glass tubes Kenji eventually reached the other side of the room where he found a heavy metal door seemingly bolted shut. Running over Kenji tried the handle, but he couldn't get it to budge, 'Hm, go figure.'

Even without bothering to hide it took Kenji nearly a few minutes to reach the rest of the group still waiting in the tunnel, 'This place is absolutely huge, and it's just a storage room for failed experiments. Whoever's behind this must be loaded.'

Kenji couldn't even begin to imagine the kind of logistics, resources and funding required to pull off such a feat, "Tsu was right this is way beyond us."

"These kids are starting to piss me off," Aizawa muttered to himself as he stood atop yet another mountain of Nymean corpses, "Though at least they're still alive."

Even though the cost of using Divination was high, temporarily blinding Aizawa in one eye which limited the effectiveness of his other ocular abilities, it allowed him to track multiple targets with infinite range for as long as he wanted.

Like a blip on a radar Aizawa could pinpoint the exact location of his students, had it been any other terrain Aizawa would have already caught up to them, 'They must be using Honenuki's quirk to tunnel through stone.'

Letting out a frustrated sigh, Aizawa felt his phone buzz in his pocket despite being a few hundred feet under the earth. Checking the caller ID, Aizawa frowned when he saw who it was.

"Aizawa-San, it's been several hours since you last reported." Nezu's voice came over the phone which was surprisingly calm but it was only skin deep and Aizawa could hear the underlying nerves in the mouse's voice.

"The kids are alive, but I don't think I can reach them anymore. They've started tunneling through the stone using Juzo Honenuki's quirk. Though the good news is they're close enough to the surface that drilling down to reach them isn't totally out of the question." Aizawa answered, "How are things looking top side?"

Nezu let out a nervous laugh and Aizawa heard the sound of fine china clinking together probably from the tea cup and saucer clutched in his tiny hands, "Oh don't get me started, the press is having a field day saying that the Academy was woefully unprepared and suffered from gross negligence."

"Well did we? I thought the seismographs were supposed to detect subterranean activity?" Aizawa asked as he scratched his cheek.

"The systems were undergoing an update at the exact moment the sinkhole formed," Nezu replied before he paused to take a sip of tea, "The systems were only down for ten minutes. The chances of this being some freak accident is practically impossible. I believe there is a strong possibility that this was a coordinated attack. What's even more concerning is the fact that I was supposed to be off campus for a meeting with the council but it got canceled at the last minute."

Aizawa frowned, "Had that been the case the Academy and inner city would have been overrun."

"Exactly, fortunately we got lucky, but those with the resources to plan something on this scale won't give up so easily." Nezu muttered darkly, "But that comes later, for now we must ensure the safety of all our students. Get back to the surface, we'll need you to oversee the drilling operation."
