The organizers led her to the party hall, arranged in the Azure Dune, the most luxurious hotel in City J.
A grand hall had been set up for the party, filled with the lively chatter of people under the glimmering golden lights that bathed the room.
Since it was still early in the evening, dinner had not yet been served. Servants moved about, offering guests wines and juices based on their preferences. The media and press were busy conducting interviews with award recipients and other prominent figures who had attended the event.
People approached Katrien to meet and greet her. She found herself obliged to partake in the social etiquette of drinking wine. Meanwhile, Quincy was busy taking phones from various individuals inquiring about the Smiths' will. When Katrien had emptied her third glass of wine, she knew she had reached her limit. So, she made her way to the balcony to get some fresh air.
Unbeknownst to her, a pair of eyes had been watching her for quite some time, and a couple of ladies began to follow her to the balcony.
Before these ladies could approach Katrien, Quincy caught up with her.
Those ladies were convinced that Katrien was engaged in a significant conversation based on her expressions. Soon, Quincy whispered something in Katrien's ear, prompting her to take Quincy outside the hall.
The two ladies followed her outside and discreetly positioned themselves behind a pillar, a few steps away from where Katrien and Quincy were standing. They could now clearly overhear their conversation.
"Madam, the law firm has just confirmed the dates with Mrs. Abby Jonathan to initiate the will transfer process. I've already contacted Mrs. Abby Jonathan, and she's very clear that the will is to be passed on to you," Quincy informed Katrien in a hushed voice.
"That's good to hear. I have a slight headache from all the drinking. Please get the car ready. I'll be back soon to take my leave," Katrien replied.
Upon hearing their conversation, the two ladies rushed back inside and shared what they had heard with three others who had accompanied them. Their expressions changed drastically upon hearing the news.
One of them called a passing waiter and said, "You, make sure that lady in black drinks this. If you do it well, I'll recommend you for a promotion."
"But sir, this..." the waiter hesitated.
A woman stepped forward and assured him, "Look, she's our cousin. She doesn't even know we're here. You just have to pass this to her on our behalf. There's nothing illegal about it; it's just vodka. We've been taking shots ourselves, and others are drinking too. You won't get into trouble; I promise." The girl introduced herself as Andrea.
The group of people huddled together were Katrien's cousins and their friends. They had never liked Katrien because she excelled at most things they couldn't. Over time, their jealousy had evolved into resentment, and they had often resorted to bullying her. However, each time they tried, they ended up facing consequences, only fueling their animosity further. When her parents had passed away, they had believed that with Frey being adopted and Katrien abandoned, she would lose everything. To their dismay, Katrien had risen like a phoenix and become the Empress of the entertainment industry. This had intensified their hatred, and they now saw her as their archrival.
This time, if she were to inherit everything from the Smiths, it would be the end for them. They were well aware of this fact, which had driven them to devise a plan to end it once and for all. At this moment, they had no concrete plan; their only thought was to get Katrien drunk and decide their next steps later. Andrea and Madonna had observed that Katrien had reached her limit, making her a vulnerable target for their scheme.
