Emma's hearing is supernatural after all; she heard it the moment Emil pulled the trigger and knew that things weren't going well.
She never expected the situation, which seemed good, to reverse instantly, but even so, her mind was thinking about the best way to make good use of the situation.
But first of all, Banner had to be alright. Who knows if he was in a situation where Hulk would refuse to come out—wouldn't Banner have to die from a bullet?
Fortunately, she was already in front of him. She just adjusted her position to the trajectory in front of Banner and blocked the bullet with her body without even having time to use Chakra.
"Arrrrg!!!"
That was the sound she least wanted to hear right now because it meant Hulk was coming. Sure enough, maybe it was Banner's instinctive response to protect his life or something, or perhaps he was already unconscious from fear, but he transformed into Hulk without any struggle.
But strangely enough, Hulk, whose actions always seemed irrational, didn't attack Emma, who was in front of him. Even so, the rest of the members who came with Emma quickly went on guard.
Be it the SHIELD members like Barton and Skye, the X-Men, or the Fantastic Four, they immediately surrounded Hulk along with some of the military members.
Emma, assessing the situation, stopped them before they angered Hulk further. She raised her hands and said, "Wait, don't attack him."
She said this while still bleeding. Apart from Logan, who was an anti-hero, most of her team were so-called superheroes. They were impressed by her act of protecting others with her body. The blood was proof enough to make them decide to trust her and wait.
This didn't include Logan, of course. He was willing to do the dirty work, as he didn't care whether Emil was from the military or not. To him, Emil was simply a screwed-up guy who turned an easy game into hell and hurt someone he considered a friend.
It has to be said that he and Ororo were really made for each other, because, in fact, he was just one step ahead of her. She was already ready to use her power against Emil—not for any other reason but for hurting Emma.
As for Hulk, first, he was shocked to see someone protecting him for the first time. Well, he was obviously misunderstanding Emma.
He looked around. The woman protecting him was bleeding, but the one who wanted to harm him had been punched by some cat. Even so, he remained hostile toward the American soldiers wearing the same uniform as that guy.
Fortunately for those worrying, Emma's injury started healing quickly as if nothing had happened. But Emma's eyes were more focused on Hulk.
One could obviously feel the rage in him from hundreds of meters away, but from his eyes, Emma also saw confusion. Fortunately, he didn't seem to have any hostility toward her.
Previously, she had thought about how Natasha was able to tame the big baby. Now, she couldn't help but think of Avengers: Age of Ultron, and the method developed by the Avengers to calm Bruce Banner and revert him back from his Hulk form to his human state.
That was the lullaby method, where Natasha made soothing gestures and spoke softly using phrases like: "The sun's getting real low."
Of course, this method isn't universal, or Thor wouldn't have been a meme. But well, she didn't think this method would also work with her.
She didn't have any kind of bond with the big guy, but now, with the way he was looking at her, it wasn't impossible. But first, they had to deal with the military, or it would be funny if, after calming him, the military made him lose control again.
After all, she was a soldier herself. Although she hadn't officially left, it was almost the same. She knew that although many of them weren't good people, that was all. They were most of the time just playthings of the high-ups and didn't have a choice. If not, apart from Emil, which of them would really be willing to face Banner?
That was a man whom bullets could do nothing to. A man who could pick up cars like toys. How would they be willing to fight him?
The lack of fighting spirit was one of the reasons Logan just glared at them and scared them without touching anyone apart from Emil.
General Ross was having a headache thinking about how to deal with these people. He could only try to intimidate them, saying, "Hello. I don't know who you are, but are you planning to interfere with the affairs of the U.S. military?"
Well, it looked like he wanted to appear intimidating as he spoke in a superior tone. But for Emma, it was good because at least Ross was willing to talk.
If he were really irrational and unwilling to talk, that would be a problem, as he would need a good beating. With her injuries healed, she replied, "General Ross, I should ask you this question."
"Are you rebelling, becoming a terrorist, and attacking civilians? Or are you high enough to ignore orders from the World Security Council?"
Ross couldn't hear what she was saying, even though he was in a helicopter, through the soldiers' communication device.
He didn't seem intimidated and said, "What are you talking about? It's a big crime to slander someone by claiming a general is a terrorist. As for the World Security Council, what are you talking about?"
It wasn't Emma who replied to him, but Logan. He said, "Stop talking nonsense. We were sent by the World Security Council. If you don't believe it, just attack us. I'd be very happy to kill a general in self-defense."
That's right. They didn't need to talk nonsense or even beg him to believe them. He could just attack them if he wanted. Logan wouldn't mind taking revenge, even if Ross wasn't the principal source of his suffering. The same went for Ororo, and the others didn't seem ready to stop him.
It has to be said that this trick really worked. The reason Ross could attack Banner recklessly was that he knew the latter wouldn't fight back or kill innocent people.
The same couldn't be said for Logan—a World War veteran who hated the military and would definitely retaliate—or Emma, an ex-soldier who seemed valued by the military. He might just end up being a scapegoat.
END OF THE CHAPTER
Hello guys, do you miss me, or am I too sinful to be forgiven?
