Chương 76: Chapter 76

☆ ☆ Beta Morgana (Greed) ☆ ☆

I nodded; it was better that way. I couldn't let them find my hidden stash of blood; that would really put a damper on my undercover mission. Given what the Ulfric said, I needed to find out how much they knew about our special abilities on top of everything else.

I asked, "Should I prepare the conference room to discuss this further while your healer is checking Beta Darius over?" The Ulfric nodded, "That's a good idea; give me thirty minutes." I bowed my head again and helped walk Darius out of the room to the guest room where he was initially slated to stay.

The others followed me out, and Alpha Gray shut my door upon exiting. I helped Darius lay on the bed and kissed him gently on the forehead in front of my audience: "I'll be back soon, mate." I turned to leave him and the others behind to set up the conference room.

I relied on Beta Morgana's past memories to find everything I needed, and I remembered that I had yet to speak to Layla. I rolled my eyes and ran back upstairs. I peeked my head into the room where they were all gathered and asked, "Aside from us, would you like Alpha Garren, Beta Evan, Alpha Kayn, and his two pack members to join us?"

Ulfric Draven said, "That's fine." I left immediately to find Alpha Kayne and his Beta. They were in the pack kitchen eating a late lunch. I asked them to meet in the conference room in fifteen minutes. I went downstairs to where Layla and Kara's mate were being held.

I apologized to the older blonde werewolf, "Sorry about the delay. We've had a lot going on." Kara's mate growled lowly at me, but I ignored him. I got the keys to her cell and unlocked it. I said, "Please come with me. The Ulfric has just arrived, and it might be better if you explain why you should be on his special task force."

She nodded in compliance and followed me out of her cell. I added, "I would try to remain less emotional if you can manage it." She whispered, "Thank you." I nodded and escorted her up the stairs to the conference room. The Ulfric would sit at the head of the table, his elder to his right. I was sure his healer would remain by Darius' side during the interim.

Alpha Gray and I would sit on his left, and I put Layla next to me. Alpha Garren and his Beta would follow the elder on the right, and then Alpha Kayne and his Beta would follow them. I placed legal pads and pens around the table in case anyone wanted to take notes; I, for one, knew I would be.

Layla and I sat and waited on the others. Since I hadn't seen Morgana's sister downstairs tending to Kara's mate, I knew she would be making her rounds shortly and would not likely be joining us; if she did, she was more than welcome to sit next to Layla.

Another five minutes passed before Alpha Kayn and his Beta Liam joined us. Layla looked away from her husband: I assumed she was still pissed at him for putting her in the prison in the first place. I whispered in her ear, "Play nice if you want to change the Ulfic's mind."

She cut her eyes at me but then let out a sigh; she knew I was right. Alpha Garren and Beta Evan joined us next and took their respective seats. In my opinion, Alpha Garren was too jolly; as soon as he sat down, he beamed and boasted about how well his son was healing and that he was so proud that his son would help bring the Lycan King into this world.

That was an interesting tidbit of information. I would write it down later to disguise it in my notes once the Ulfric started speaking so as not to draw suspicion. A few moments later, Alpha Gray escorted in the Ulfic and his elder. We all stood and bowed to show them respect. They took their seats, and the meeting started.

The Ulfric cleared his throat before speaking, "Thank you for gathering on such short notice and for the hospitality you have shown my brother and I during this tumultuous time." I grabbed the notepad in preparation. After his formalities, the Ulfric started, "My pack's healer is looking Beta Darius over at this time, but the research through our archives unfortunately didn't yield much."

He added, "Aside from Sylas's previous attack, in which we documented his blood manipulation ability, several members of that pack were decapitated. Only two other special abilities were mentioned in those documents, but the vampires remained anonymous." He paused, "The first is glamouring, which, to our knowledge, doesn't affect werewolves, only humans."

I jotted down on my notepad, ensuring that I did not leave anything out. The Ulfric continued, "It was described that the humans who were affected suffered from a range of side effects, such as memory loss or acting abnormally as though they were being controlled."

He paused, "No long-term effects were documented, and it seemed that the control was released in less than half an hour. We aren't sure what would happen if someone were glamoured repeatedly." I nodded and continued to take notes diligently.

Lust could control people for longer than the Ulfric had described, and she could control multiple people simultaneously, which he didn't mention. This may have been an encounter with another vampire with that same ability, as Lust wasn't the only one, just the strongest currently.

Pride always pushed us to hone our skills as she did for herself; if someone with the same ability held more potential, we would be replaced, and she would have a one-on-one battle between us to determine the victor. Thus far, since I have been with her clan, no one has been replaced, but she always threatened it.

With her ability, she would know if there was someone out there who could overpower a current member. I almost got lost in thought when the Ulfric's booming voice brought me back. He said, "The other unique ability that we had documented was a vampire attack long ago when a single vampire almost wiped out an entire pack by pulling their blood out of them."

I gasped; Gluttony was the only one I knew who had that kind of power before he joined Pride's clan; otherwise, I would surely have heard about it. The Ulfric cleared his throat, "Yes, it was shocking even to read the details from the survivors. They said they saw blood pooling from the orifices of their packmates.

He continued, "It poured from their eyes, nostrils, ears, and mouths. He was able to take it even from the members who had shifted; nothing they did mattered. The blood swirled in the air and gathered into a sphere; that monster didn't even have to touch them. Their corpses fell and looked pale and dehydrated after he was done."

They were definitely attacked by greed; that description confirmed it, and I jotted everything down to report to Pride later. Everyone in the room was utterly shocked after hearing this story, and I feigned disgust and shock with them. I interrupted the silence to get them talking again: "There are likely more unique abilities. Some of the basics are them turning into bats and flying off."

I lied, "The vampires that attacked Darius and I the second time did that." The Ulfric turned to me, "Do you remember anything else from that night?" I recalled back to Beta Morgana's memories right before she died. I said, "There were more this time, and they split us up."

I paused, "One had the one ability you mentioned earlier, the blood manipulation. That's how the vampires split us up, but it was more like ropes; we were held down by it." It wasn't necessarily a lie, but it didn't give them any additional or useful information either.

Alpha Kayn spoke up, "What did the blood manipulator look like?" I paused, I could describe Wrath down to his penis size, but I needed to maintain his anonymity, "It all happened so fast, honestly, I'm not sure, and I can't recall exactly what they looked like. I was put face down on the ground almost immediately; it was like they appeared out of thin air."

Alpha Kayn asked, "Do you recall any who looked older than me? They were more wrinkled and had light blonde but graying hair." I assumed he was describing Sylas, but I shrugged, "Maybe? Like I said, it happened so fast. We were lucky that they stopped when the group of humans showed up, and they disappeared just as fast as they had come."

He nodded, accepting my answer, then said, "Sylas likely led the group; it makes the most sense since you and Beta Darius had just killed several of his members." I nodded, "It's possible, but we never met Sylas. We only met Kara's husband at the hospital before the other vampires were sent to assassinate us in our hotel room."

The Ulfric took back control of the meeting, "And you said Darius was unconscious when you got to him?" I nodded, "Yes, but they didn't have us very long before the group of people scared them off, maybe a minute at most." The Ulfric scoffed, "I'm honestly surprised that you're both still alive. A minute would have been more than enough time to snap your necks in your human forms."
