Chương 10: Mi Joo*

On an ordinary street in the upscale area of Seoul, Eunji was driving her car.

She didn't particularly like to drive, but she didn't want one of her father's employees to be taking her up and down, retracing her every step as if she were a small child.

Eunji was feeling tired and a little bored. Her apartment wasn't ready yet, and she didn't have more than a hotel room at that moment.

She decided to drive to an old place from her school days.

It's strange to say that Eunji frequented a bar during her teenage years, especially to do her homework there.

She was a good friend of the owner of the place, seeking to get away from the busy environment of her house. She always spent hours in that bar, listening to drunks laughing and crying, some for love and some for work.

She heard some employees curse their bosses, and now she laughed, knowing that she was the one to be cursed.

Life really was a great irony, right?

Young Kim finally arrived at the so-familiar place; few things had changed. The smell of tobacco mixed with whiskey was still there.

She turned off her car, grabbed her purse, and draped her coat over her shoulders.

She could see the stars in the sky, and the moon looked big and bright.

With shuffling steps, she finally entered.

The bar had an elegant, clean atmosphere, quiet with only ambient music in the background.

Her friend was called Seo Mi Joo, a tall woman with strong features of her Russian and Korean origins, extremely beautiful and humorous.

The woman was 28 and had lived in Korea for at least a decade.

Her bar offered the most diverse services; after all, the customer was always right. He could have a nice drink and then go out with a pretty girl for a less lonely, chilly night.

Mi Joo, in addition to being the owner, also liked to work preparing drinks. She would stand by the counter happily chatting with the drunks, and they always seemed to get along.

The woman smiled widely when she saw her young friend and couldn't contain her urge to hug her, running towards Eun-ji and crushing her as hard as she could.

"Eunji! What a surprise, you're back?! My God, my God! How long were you gone? Half a century?"

The girl smiled out of the corner of her mouth; it was really nice to see a friendly face.

But her friend's love suffocated her. "Idiot, it's only been 4 years."

Mi Joo smiled, feeling funny, and gave her friend a little slap on the forehead.

"Mi Joo! It hurts!"

"It hurts! How come you haven't come to visit me once in all this time?"

"I haven't set foot in Korea for 4 years."

Four years without returning home was surprising, to say the least. Mi Joo felt curious; were the problems still the same?

Eunji didn't like to talk much about her private life, and it was a bit annoying, as she always boiled down to mincing words. How could anyone carry on a dialogue like that?!

"Still your parents?"

Young Kim was typing something on her cell phone just to avoid talking about it; she hated talking about her parents.

In reality, Eunji hated talking about her parents, siblings, and business. Anyone who knew young Kim knew little about her relationship with her family.

Everything was a big blur.

Annoying and tedious.

Eunji leaned her arms on the wooden counter and smirked.

She played with her cell phone, swinging it from side to side.

"I had something more interesting to do in London at the time, but I don't have it anymore."

Eun-ji never got involved with men; she didn't have the patience to deal with them. Young Kim thought it was a big waste of time to devote time and effort to love situations. At least she regretted it every time she tried.

Mi Joo went back behind the counter, and Eunji rubbed her forehead a little irritated by the slap.

Well. Old friendships never seemed to change.

Kim sat in a more secluded spot at the corner of the bar and waited for her friend to come over with a few glasses.

"What do you want to drink?"

Eun-ji put her cell phone away and finally turned her eyes to Mi Joo, staring at the thousands of bottles on display. Nothing seemed really interesting in her eyes.

"Can you give me a straight whiskey?"

Mi Joo laughed, funny. Did that girl still have a liver? Every time she saw her drink, it was always straight whiskey. She didn't drink cocktails and didn't even dare for ice cubes.

The smoothest drink she had ever seen Eunji drink was a straight martini.

That girl was irritatingly interesting.

"Your palate is always surprising."

Eunji smiled. "It seems that a bitter life is part of my being."

Mi Joo took the bottle of her best whiskey and poured exactly two fingers of drink into the glass. "You really came back from London a very great poet; are you going to recite Shakespeare?!"

Eunji took the cup and just rolled her eyes in response. "Idiot."

Mi Joo started making herself a drink; drinking with old friends always felt good. Well, Eunji was her friend who turned her on the most.

"That makes me curious, why did you come back?"

"Business."

The skilled bartender finally poured her finished drink into her glass, along with a cherry. "Pina colada?!"

Mi Joo offered the cup to Eunji, who stared at the creamy and appetizing drink; she could already imagine it would be sweet.

Eunji smiled, already knowing where that story would end up.

Mi Joo took the cherry and placed it next to Eun-ji's lips. How could that girl be so pretty?! "I thought you were with a girlfriend in London, so you never thought of me again... How about full service today?"

Seo Mi Joo could feel hypnotized; should they reminisce about old times?! Sure, why not?!

Eunji laughed. She knew well how Mi Joo took care of her business; money always seemed welcome no matter where it came from.

"Are you still involved with this?"

"You know how it is, easy money is tempting."

Eunji looked around the bar and didn't see many girls; they were probably busy with some customers. She was curious about who would be offered to her. "I know. Who would be the next person?"

Mi Joo took a sip of her drink. "Hmmm. Me."

Young Kim laughed; they hadn't done that in a long time. "Do I have to pay to sleep with my best friend?"

"Today is on the house..."

Mi Joo brought her face closer to Eunji's and whispered in her ear. "...You look great with that dress shirt, can I rip it off?"

"Idiot."
