"Ahem, are you ready?"
"Ready? For what?"
"Ah, seriously. Did you not hear about the Lycan King?"
"Oh, my- oh my g-goodness! thought it was just a rumor!"
"Ha, you wish! Sadly, it's true, he really is coming to this pack this time around."
"Aaaaah, I am so scared!"
I overheard the two maids talking among themselves as they cleaned up the retched room.
I didn't mean to eavesdrop, I really didn't. But when they happen to be talking right in front of me as I lay limp and lifeless on the ground, there is little I can avoid.
My whole body ached numbly as crimson droplets obstructed my vision.
"Ugh, what to do about this wench? Do I really need to clean this up? It's so tiring and useless to do this every day! It's all because we are omegas, isn't it?"
One of the maid, assigned to clean the mess my father made in my room every other day, whined as she roughly yanked me from the ground by my forearm.
If I was even a little in my senses, I would have winced or maybe even cry out in pain.
A strange numbness had overwhelmed my entire being as my bruised and tattered body throbbed dully. I was aware of the blood that painted my whole body and the carpet under me red, but there was little I could do.
"Stop complaining! Be grateful that we can at least transform. Would you rather be in her position?" She sneered at her friend, who shuddered as she grabbed my shattering form in her calloused palms.
I don't know how I am still alive. The way he hit me today really made me believe today was going to be my last day.
Should I be grateful? Or should I cry because I have to continue existing in this hell?
The second maid groaned in annoyance as she cleaned and dressed my wounds.
"This blood would take ages to come off my hands." She clicked her tongue in annoyance.
These maids, like the rest of the pack, have no regards for me, a wolf-less outcast who was beaten to death by her own father on a regular basis.
The reason being my father believed him beating me up would somehow trigger my transformation and I would maintain his honor.
Being the Beta of a highly reputed pack, he was extra vigilant in upholding his rank and gaining an excellent reputation. His esteem was further improved as my older brother went on to become a captain of the knights, and my sister who was preparing to become the Luna of this 'amazing' pack.
Then it all came crashing down when I took my mother's life as soon as I came into the world. It was further tainted when I was unable to shift into a wolf.
So, it was no wonder that I became an outcast in the pack and treated worse than shoe dirt. That I became the perfect target for all my father's frustrations and angers. That I was an embarrassment for my siblings.
Didn't mean I was okay with it, though.
I spent each and every second of my cruel life wishing doom and cursing this wretched pack. Nevertheless, my wishes and curses were yet to come true.
"Ack!" I let out a yell upon her rough mishandling.
A painful moan escaped me and my eyes fluttered open when my numbness subsided and my senses returned to me one by one.
Just then, all the pain that was on standby came crashing down on me, and I trembled wildly, tightly clutching my stomach.
"Stop it, Seraphina." One of them kicked my bruised calf as my whimpers grew in volume.
Is she blind? Can't she see how injured I am? What should I do if not cry out in pain? Laugh and jump around in happiness?
Just you wait.
Like how I am waiting for the day the tables will turn.
I promise to not forget you and return this back to you tenfold.
Biting my lip until it drew blood, I tried to make myself as silent as I could, whilst they cleaned me up with harsh dry rags.
"Tsk! She's pathetic."
"I know, right. If not for her, our pack would have been much more prosperous."
I scrunched my face up at their nonsensical logic for hating me and inwardly rolled my eyes.
They soon left the room after spewing a bit more venom from their mouths.
A minute passed by. Then two.
Slowly and steadily, I pushed myself up from the ground with shaky arms, nearly collapsing in agony.
Ha! It's ok, I can do this. It's nothing new. I am used to this.
Repeating it like a mantra in my head, I stood up on my feet and stumbled towards the tall mirror in the corner of my small room. More like a confined cell without any windows and sunlight.
Ah, how incompetent! They had the gall to whine about their tasks when they couldn't even clean up properly.
My otherwise pale face was caked up with dried blood and fresh droplets still dripped down.
Bringing my hand up to wipe my eyes, I recalled the events of last night.
My father, as usual, slammed the door open and threw his glass ashtray right at my face. I couldn't dodge in time, and it broke right on the side of my forehead.
Ha, at least they picked out the glass shards.
With a wet rag the maids left behind, I properly wiped my face, revealing an old bruise on my cheek. My sister had punched me in my cheek a little too hard, a while back, because she didn't like the way I was looking at her.
Like seriously? She's such a brat.
It has almost faded away now, so it's fine, I guess.
Turning around to look at my whipped back, I found it covered in tight bandages. My other wounds seemed to be dressed well.
Hm, got to give it to them.
Maybe they also had given me some medication as the pain became bearable.
My jaw clenched tightly, and I found myself tightly gripping the marble basin.
I am so tired. Exhausted. Done.
How long? How long must I remain optimist? How long must I keep surviving? How long until these horrible damned wolves get their pay?
I am so f-cking tired.
Had my life been different, if it wasn't for that damn prophecy?
Sighing, I ran my hand through my crusty silver hair that was matted with blood clumps. My dead blue eyes stared back at me in defeat like an abandoned gem that has lost all its shine and glory.
Wiping my tears of frustration and anger, I once again desperately wished for the utter destruction of this pack.
