"Good morning, Miss Z," Abigail said with a cheerful smile, her dimples showing on her cheeks.
Zarina looked over at Abby, who was in her usual casual dress. Abby was always upbeat and easygoing, and Zarina appreciated how her presence could instantly lift anyone's spirits when she spoke.
Then she shifted her gaze to her computer screen. "What's up, Abby?" Zarina asked in a flat tone, still focused on her work.
Zarina was confident that Abby always had a little chit-chat up her sleeve, and she was her favorite listener.
Abby playfully pretended to shiver, teasingly saying, "Huhu, so chilly. Your mood doesn't match the hotness of your dress today!" She energetically complimented Zarina's outfit, her eyes narrowing in playful observation. "But anyway, why do I sense something has changed in your aura today?"
Zarina wore a casual blue dress highlighting her hourglass figure and delicate white skin. She paired it with three-inch silver stilettos on her slender feet. Her colleagues noticed the change in her style, as they were accustomed to seeing her in vintage trousers and coats.
Zarina chuckled, amused by Abby's facial expression. Abby has a unique way of expressing her thoughts and emotions; every word she says is always accompanied by a facial expression, making her more entertaining to converse with.
Suddenly, Abby giggled like a sixteen-year-old girl. "Oh my god! That's it! That's the smile of a woman in love!" she exclaimed, happiness sparkling in her eyes.
However, she had this annoying attitude where she gave meaning to everything she observed. She always daydreams, treating reality like a movie scene she had always watched.
After hearing those words from Abby, Zarina swallowed hard, her smile fading. Then, that awkward kissing scene with Draymond flashed in her mind, making her uneasy.
Their unexpected kiss lingered in her mind, and it felt like time had pulled her into that moment. She could vividly remember how their lips met in a quick kiss and how her heart raced so quickly that it made her catch her breath.
Damn!
Shit!
Fuck!
She felt like she had uttered all the curses inwardly. Her adrenaline rushed through her face, turning it red with a blush. She started to feel sweat forming on her brows, making her curse even more.
She needed to compose herself and pretend she wasn't in love.
What? No! The hell! She's not in love. Right? She's not in love. This weird feeling is caused by hormones playing tricks on her, making her heart beat fast. But what if? This abnormal heartbeat of hers due to a heart disease? Damn! She needs to see a cardiologist.
In just a moment, Zarina experienced an inner turmoil, talking to herself inwardly. She thought she was going crazy, and she hated it! She wasn't like this before. Why the hell does she seem so affected?
Then, after a moment, she heaved a deep sigh and licked her lips to compose herself. "What are you talking about, Abby?" she asked sternly, trying not to look defensive and obvious.
Zarina believed that putting on a serious facade was the right thing to do. That was the right cover-up at this moment.
"Aish! I told you to stop watching movies. It always causes you to daydream," she added, attempting to divert the topic.
Abby's brows knitted, clearly confused. She found it weird that Zarina sounded so defensive when she could simply say yes or no.
Then she pouted her lips and crossed her arms on her chest, "Aish! Don't bring my hobbies here! They do nothing wrong but give me pleasure. Hi, hi," she chuckled. In just a snap, her expression changed into a serious one.
She's the lady with thousands of faces, as Zarina hyperbolically referred to her because Abby had a lot of expressions she portrayed.
"Aish! Don't change the topic! In movies, I saw girls in love blush their cheeks and always smile. And besides, look at you?!" Abby looked at Zarina, scanning her physique. "You wore a dress for the first time in the history of EleganceEra! You wore a dress! The lady in vintage trousers and coat wore a dress! What a headline!" Abby dramatically exclaimed, "Hmm…." She put her pointing finger on her temple like she was thinking, "I can't think of any other reason…. but a man. Tell me... are you in love?" she asked in an accusing tone, leaning forward to meet Zarina's gaze.
Zarina couldn't understand why it was a big deal for Abby when she arrived at her cubicle with a smile and a new style. Who can't afford to smile when you save yourself from tardiness? And besides, who else won't be happy when you receive extra pay biannually? Money is happiness for people like her who have been living frugally.
Zarina playfully rolled her eyes, "How silly! Why can't my cheeks blush when adrenaline rushes through my face because I ran like a sprinter a while ago? That's the smile of victory for not being late, not of being in love, duh… I have no time for that!" she said to Abby and continued doing her work.
In love? That word wasn't in her vocabulary. Love of the opposite sex is just an illusion for her.
Abby pouted her lips and stood up straight, "Hmm. Whatever you say! I know sooner or later you'll expose your boyfriend!" She teased, clearly not convinced by Zarina's explanation.
"Aish! What is your basis for saying that?" she asked, her brows furrowed.
"My instinct!" Abby replied with conviction, "People say a woman's instinct never goes wrong," she added with a smile.
A woman's intuition is like a secret superpower she has. It is a unique ability to know things, even without seeing it first hand. That's the kind of power women have with their instincts. It's pretty incredible!
Zarina took a deep sigh. "That would never happen, Abby. I have no one to introduce, and I'm not hiding or denying something because I don't have a man in my life right now! As in nothing!" she said, gesturing an 'X' sign to emphasize that she has nothing to hide. "And please, go back to your work now because I have a lot to do," she added, gently shooing her away.
Abby put her hands up like she was surrendering, "Okay okay chill!" she said while stepping backward.
Then she frowned when she realized something, "Ugh! She dismissed me like I'm a dog again. Seriously! I bet my gut feeling is right. We'll see!" she mumbled, heading back to her desk.
Zarina sighed in relief as Abby walked away. 'Abby is having a hard time growing up. She's still stuck on the adolescence stage,' she thought, shaking her head, then returned to her work.
