Mabel sat down on the plush couch of their living room going through all what Wendy had said to her a while ago. Yeah you heard right, Megan's mom had important stuff to talk to her about and just as you guessed, it was definitely about Megan. She checked the time on her phone to see it was just thirty minutes past four. Sighing, she unlocked her phone and dialed Megan's number.
" Hello?", Megan said over the phone unsure of the caller and Mabel could quickly guess that the girl didn't even bother checking the caller ID. " Yo Megan, you busy?", Mabel asked and Megan shook her head on the other side of the phone before realizing that Mabel couldn't see her so she just replied a quiet No.
" I was wondering if you would want to go out with me, hang out at maybe foodies place", Mabel said for Megan to sigh, was Mabel still worried about her? But she didn't stick with that conclusion as Mabel voiced out once again. " I have something to tell you, it's about my parents, nothing much but I need someone right now, a friend", she said for Megan to quickly agree when she heard Mabel's voice quiver as if she was about to cry. " Ok I'll see you in a bit", Mabel spoke again and without letting Megan finish, she ended the call .
........
Fifteen minutes later, Mabel and Megan were already in Megan's car heading to Foodies place. None of them said a word to each other as Mabel was lost in thoughts about what Wendy told her and Megan was busy racking her brains, searching for comforting words she could say to her friend.
" Do you want to talk about it now?", Megan asked and Mabel shot awake to realize she was already in the car with Megan and there was no turning around. " Nope let's just get to Foodies place first", she said and turned her head to stare at the window. Megan meanwhile thought maybe the topic was too serious prompting Mabel to not want to talk about it in the car.
They arrived at Foodies place and made their way to the entrance but three feets away from it, Mabel phone rang and she turned to Megan. Smiling softly, she spoke, " Could you go in first and reserve us a table... I'll answer the phone and meet you in a while", she said and Megan nodded calmly even though she was reluctant to leave Mable on her own.
She walked towards the entrance and opened the door only to find Foodies place as dark as the night and it was just the time of evening. " Hello", she called out unsure of what was going on, the darkness made her scared that a witch from a scary movie she watched was hiding in the dark, she quickly turned around to run away but immediately stopped at the voice she heard. It was Wendy's.
......
The lights went on at a particular spot, the centre of Foodies place and Megan saw her mom, standing next to a microphone as she sang out a beautiful song with that not so melodic voice.
A song by Lewis Calpadi, Hold Me while You wait, it was literally all not real to Megan as she saw her mom confess to her about everything that had literally been going on in their lives.
The Chorus was the most special
" Hold me while you wait,
I wish that I was good enough
If only I could wake you up
My love my love my love
Would you stay....
Megan felt like tearing up, was wendy apologizing? Wendy was even crying as she sang. She felt something warm touch her cheeks and she realized Wendy wasn't the only one, she was crying too. As soon as Wendy dropped the microphone and the entire lights went on, Megan felt her heart stop, her Dad and Grand Dad were here, seated on the seats, apart from that, there was literally no one else but them, one family.
Her face brightened as she rushed over to Wendy and while hugging her, called out in a sultry voice, " Mom", she said and Wendy returned the hug happily, " Happy birthday Megan".
Phew....Megan finally has a complete house, it's really nice to finally see mother and daughter settled
