Chương 43: Settle It This Way
Since he had time to spare between shifts, Lin Que decided to have dinner with Lily at the cafeteria. Seeing how her head was flinging in all directions from drowsiness, he wanted to make sure she consumes a proper meal before going back to sleep.
"Lily, let's go eat. If you don't like the set meals, then I'll allow an exception this time. Come on, get out of bed. Your stomach is growling like a tiger seeing its prey." He stood in front of her with his fists on either side of his hips.
Still, her body stubbornly flopped back onto bed without any care for his words. "If you don't get up, I'll carry you down on my shoulder to the cafeteria. Do you want that to happen?"
"I'm up!!" Her eyes widened, and her hands rubbed her droopy eyelids. She thought it would wake her up, but it didn't work. She felt extremely lazy as if her legs were chained to brick walls and a five-hundred-pound rock. Once she gets up from bed, her butt would fall back onto the bedsheet.
Smiling at her childish behavior, he couldn't continue putting up a strict voice against her. She looked like a kitten finding its way to its mother. He watched as she struggled to get out of bed. After the third attempt had failed, she gave up and looked up with half opened eyes.
"Mmmm.." Reaching her hands up and towards him, she wiggled her fingers as if she was waiting for him to do something.
"What?" he tilted his head and held her hands.
"I can't get up. Help me get up." Her voice sounded demanding, but it didn't bother him at all.
"Sure," he smiled as he stepped closer to her and pulled her up. Before her body fell backwards again, he hugged her in his embrace and held onto her waist.
"Nn..this pillow is so big and warm." She happily wrapped her arms around him.
Lifting her chin up with one hand, he whispered into her ears. "If you want, I can be your pillow any day and night."
Hearing his voice so close to her ears, she instantly woke up and jumped out of his embrace. "Y..You.. I.."
"Awake now? Good. Let's go eat." He held her wrist and pulled her out of the room. The moment they exited the door, they saw Lucas squatting pitifully by the door. Lucas looked up and said, "Brother, I'm hungry..."
"He's your brother?" Lily blinked as she observed the squatting figure on the floor.
"Yes! My name is Lucas. I am Lin Que's younger and cuter brother. Nice to meet you." A wide, bright smile appeared on his face as he hopped up to introduce himself.
"My name is Lily. As you can see, I'm a patient." She smiled back at him.
"Oh! What a pretty name! The name fits you perfectly. Are you guys going to eat dinner at the cafeteria?" Lucas grinned as he rubbed his stomach.
"Yep! Do you want to join us? I heard you say you were hungry just now." She could tell he heard their conversation already. Since he was Lin Que's brother, it shouldn't be that bad to invite him for dinner as well.
"Well, I would love to take up your offer, but..." He changed the direction of his gaze onto Lin Que's darkened expression.
Noticing Lily turning her head towards his direction, Lin Que quickly changed his expression and said, "Of course, you can! Let's go while there's still food." He released Lily's wrist and wrapped his arm around Lucas' shoulder while walking down the hall.
Lin Que waited until they had a small gap from Lily before whispering, 'You're dead meat later. I'll spank your ass until you can't get off the couch for a day!"
Lucas purposely said out loud, "Say what? Bro! You're treating all of us? Wow! Thanks." After that he whispered, "Bro, did you think I would come unpreparedly? Heh.. You've underestimated my shamelessness. I can be on the same level as dad as well."
"Haha, they look like they have a really close relationship." She laughed softly as she followed behind.
Lucas didn't dare say anything random as he was satisfied with his large portion meal during dinner. Lin Que could finally breathe when he saw how obedient this brother of his was behaving. He also enjoyed seeing Lily eat pleasurably as she complimented the food. After eating, Lucas was forced to go home while Lin Que walked Lily back to her room.
He switched on the lights and watched as she entered her room. Since she had just eaten, she decided to stand by the bed instead of sit. As he stood next to her to start another conversation, his phone vibrated twice.
Notification 1:
Lucas: "Good luck tonight bro! I could see the sparkling fireworks between you and her."
Doctor John: "Doctor Lin, thank you for offering to cover my shift, but I'm already at the hospital. My family situation has gotten better, so I won't need sudden coverage. Thank you once again!"
Lin Que took a minute to reply to both of them. He wanted to tell her about his shift when suddenly thunder roared angrily outside the hospital, making her cover her ears in response. Stretching out his arms to calm her down, the thunder stroke once again and this time, a blackout occurred; it switched off the lights for the entire floor.
Lily lost her balance from the sudden darkness and close sound of thunder. She grabbed tightly onto something heavy as she fell backwards on the bed. Her body trembled as another thunder rumbled and flashes of lightning highlighted the room for split seconds.
She could feel warmth surrounding her body and a comforting hand caressing her cheeks. His hoarse voice repeated into her ears, "Everything is okay. I'm here. Don't be scared." Slowly, her hands loosened its grip, and she bravely opened her eyes to see Lin Que right above her.
For some reason, when she gets scared, the first person she thought of was Lin Que. She realized her mind would always think about him recently. Thinking back from the time she's been admitted to the hospital till now and the personal time he has spent on her, an ignited warmth spread from her heart. In front of him, she could express herself freely and feel as comfortable as she wishes.
'Hehe, I've found my answer.'
After blinking a few times, she could assure herself she wasn't dreaming. 'We're hugging each other!' She finally figured out what she's been clinging onto.
On the other hand, he sensed that she had calmed down and tried releasing her from his embrace. When he tried to move back from her, her arms also loosened up around him.
Except...
Her hands made its way up his front torso. Eventually, her arms circled around his nape and settled carefreely there. As if it was her spot to begin with, she refused to budge.
He whispered, "If you cling onto me like this, I won't be able to move."
She whispered, "Then don't. Didn't you say you were willing to be my pillow earlier?"
"Yea, but I said it as a-"
Cutting his words off, she pulled his head closer to hers, "Then are you trying to take back those words?"
"No..I..What's the meaning of this?" He smirked as he realized she was trying to play hidden words with him.
Bringing him slightly closer once again, she traced her fingers to his lips and said, "Listen well because I'm only saying this once. I like you. Let's try dating each other."
"H..huh?" He was taken aback by her sudden confession. She smiled as she thought of how adorable he was at the moment.
"Then let's settle this a different way to make you understand it clearer." The finger on his lips shifted as her hand caressed the back of his nape. She raised her body and stopped when her lips were about to touch his.
Feeling his slightly quickened breath, she smiled sweetly one more time before sealing his lips with hers. As her soft lips pecked his, he caught on with her pace and kissed back. From dry pecks to giving each other clumsy kisses on each other's faces; both of them found it extremely pleasing as they rolled around initiating kisses.
