Half an hour had already passed since the spymaster sent a detachment for scouting duty. The village as Ezekiel saw it ahead was engulfed in a thick fog, and curiously, its reaches did not leave the vicinity of Sasbury. He attempted to draw nearer at the village with a handful of guards, and when he was but a couple of hundreds of meters apart from the gate, he heard a dissonance that seemed to degrade men into wailing babes. The suspicion which lingered at the back of his mind was now solidified, birthing a mixture of emotions that crossed the line to and fro between sensing peril and eagerness for violence.
"So it would appear that they did not flee, after all…" the spymaster's dialogue was almost reserved all to himself, prompting curious gazes from the captains and his guards. "And I see they have prepared a little trap as well. How amusing."
The court mage was brave enough to threaten his peer but was the first one to go down lol
