Fang Ling carefully read the script twice and then fell silent.
She found it hard to articulate her feelings.
To be fair, did "The You in My Eyes" have a tumultuous plot with dramatic twists and turns? Actually, it didn't.
All of the content revolved around common elements from everyday life, such as home, the school playground, and so on. The protagonist wasn't some remarkable hero; he was just an ordinary kid who was a bit mischievous, a handful for his mom, and paralyzed from the waist down.
But within these ordinary details, there were many sincere emotions to which the audience could deeply relate.
Especially the story's three twists, although they all used the same elements, the same incidents -- yet, after a change in perspective, the content they conveyed was drastically different.
Thus, when viewing the protagonist from the mother's perspective at the end, there was an effect of all the built-up emotions erupting.
The script included not just all the dialogue and actions of the characters, but even the details of the set design and the sound effects were clearly described. Its completion level was so high, it didn't seem like a student's work at all.
"Was this script found online?" Fang Ling asked.
Zhang Yiyang quickly shook his head, "No, both of these scripts are original creations by Lu Zhixing. You should remember, right? Last time I told you, he had an original song that was very good, the scouts from 'Campus Talent Show' were even fighting over it."
Fang Ling was astonished, "Him again? He came up with a song and two scripts all by himself? Are you sure they're original?"
Zhang Yiyang nodded, "Certain, Fang, I searched online for a long time and didn't find any similar work, not even something remotely related. 100% pure original."
Fang Ling was also shocked, "It seems our institute has produced a genius, huh? This is truly unbelievable!
"He's put in so much effort, I'll mention it to the leadership when it's time for awards, to pay more attention to him."
"Oh, and there's an issue. The script describes 'The You in My Eyes' requiring a large amount of art resources, and I'm not even talking about the sets, but during scene changes, isn't there supposed to be a projection of images from fantasies on the curtain? And they need to be shown in a different art style? These resources haven't been prepared yet, right?
"We're under time pressure, so let me go and talk to the institute leaders, see if we can allocate some funds to work with the Art Institute to come up with some resources..."
The students were so considerate there was nothing left for her, the instructor, to do. Only now had she finally thought of a way she could be of help.
Seeing Fang Ling about to make arrangements via phone call, Zhang Yiyang hurriedly interrupted, "Fang, there's no need, all the art resources have been prepared."
"All... prepared?" Fang Ling, with an incredulous look on her face, had just picked up the phone receiver.
Zhang Yiyang nodded and pulled a USB drive from his pocket, "Yes, all prepared."
Fang Ling took the USB drive, plugged it into the computer, and asked, "How were they prepared? Resources substituted from the internet? The projectors on stage require high-quality material, those low-quality garbage resources won't do."
However, the next second, as Fang Ling opened the resources on the computer, she was instantly stunned.
Where were these low-quality, free trash resources?
The quality was clearly very high, and, most likely, they couldn't even be bought in an editor!
"Where did these resources come from?" Fang Ling asked, baffled.
Zhang Yiyang paused before responding, "I'm not too sure about that, Zhixing said he was developing a game with the same name, and had prepared these resources, so they could be used directly. But as for how he got these resources... he said he drew them himself.
"I think he might not want to tell me the actual source of these resources, but don't worry, Fang, I did a quick search, and there should be no copyright issues."
The office fell into a brief silence.
Fang Ling had a lot to say herself, goddamn drawing them himself, could this lie be any more outrageous?
But, considering Lu Zhixing's series of extraordinary actions, drawing the art resources himself didn't seem too far-fetched.
Which freshman could write a song, two scripts, and even develop a game in such a short amount of time after enrollment? And even the game's resources were ready?
But Fang Ling didn't press further; was it her place to care about these things?
As long as the freshman welcome party went smoothly and the live performance was a success, that was enough. As long as the resources didn't have copyright issues, what did it matter where Zhixing got them from?
No matter if he really drew them himself, paid for them, or had friends help create them, it was his ability.
"Alright, then let's confirm these two scripts! Later, I'll speak with the teacher managing the Science Hall. You and Lu, find a time to go there together to test the equipment, to ensure the best possible stage effects during the performance."
Seeing Fang Ling pleased, Zhang Yiyang decided to strike while the iron was hot, asking for a bit more, "Oh, one more thing. Fang, considering how good these scripts are and that we already have the virtual backdrops, could the institute possibly allocate just a tiny bit more funding for us to buy some costumes and props?"
Fang Ling immediately understood, "Hey, you're waiting for me to offer this, aren't you? Alright, I'll file a report with the institute right away and try to secure more funds for you!"
Amid laughter and cheerful talk, Zhang Yiyang concluded his report and left Fang Ling's office.
He let out a sigh of relief, "Indeed, it's necessary to have a limited edition junior like Zhixing. Without these two scripts, I really wouldn't know how to wrap this up.
