Chương 10: Chapter 10- Human town

Standing there, he examined the locket in his hand and deduced that there were likely similarities between the abilities of the artifact and the core he possessed.

Given that the locket was a poison-type artifact, it made sense that this stone might share comparable traits.

With this in mind, he decided to place the locket into his inventory, having noticed a feature labeled "store artifacts" that allowed him to save items for later use.

He recalled how he had learned about dominion, a power that creates a space for storing artifacts and manifests their abilities.

Although he lacked dominion himself and couldn't access it without someone's consent, he discovered that he could still store artifacts via the Eros Flux feature.

'What's the exchange rate for this?' he pondered. He had already encountered an option to sacrifice an artifact, where the fragments yielded could be converted into Eros points or fragments of that particular tier.

The previous dagger had exchanged at a rate of one fragment for five Eros points, which he considered a loss, especially since that amount offset both the extraction and repair costs of the dagger—excluding the additional five Eros points spent on repairs, of course.

He sincerely hoped this would not be the case for the arrow artifact.

[ Sacrifice Reward: 7 Eros Points or 1 Shattered Fragment ]

'....' Noting the strength of this particular artifact—in stark contrast to the previous one—he realized it was indeed generous to offer seven Eros points for its sacrifice. While that was commendable and tempting, it still didn't sufficiently compensate for the losses incurred during the dagger's repair.

With this in mind, he dismissed the notion of collecting Eros points and turned his attention back to the unconscious woman, drawing his dagger as he moved closer.

"What are—oh," Thalrexia gasped, her confusion evident as she watched him approach the maid before her. Through her ability to see future, she realized his intention was to kill the woman.

Just then, he plunged the knife deep into the woman's throat, swiftly ending her life without any struggle as blood flowed freely from the wound.

"Let's get out of here and change into her clothes," Keith urged. He had gathered enough information about this world, particularly concerning artifacts, and realized the situation was far more complex than he'd initially believed.

With the layout indicating that more individuals like these two could arrive any moment, he knew it was imperative they escape before encountering anyone more formidable.

"Huh, yes, I understand," Thalrexia replied, slightly shocked but quickly nodding in agreement.

As she began to remove the maid outfit from the unconscious woman, Keith made his way toward the narrow passage to assess whether the circumstances outside had improved.

---

'What the....' Contrary to what he had anticipated, this seemingly desolate place, set within a barren land far removed from human activity, was unexpectedly alive with the sounds of footsteps.

Although they didn't seem to be directed toward his location, the noise suggested an active marketplace nearby. The lively chatter and commotion were clearly audible from behind a wooden door that had been slightly ajar.

As he listened, Keith noted the stark contrast in sound upon opening the door; it seemed to be constructed from some soundproof material, preventing the sounds from within from escaping to the outside.

"Come here," Keith called over his shoulder to Thalrexia, beckoning her to follow him. He studied the narrow alleyway that led to the door, which stood at its end, while the other side opened into the bustling marketplace.

The dilapidated structures that lined the alleyway were predominantly wooden, coated in mold and permeated by the unmistakable scent of decay, with rats scurrying about.

He decided to invite Thalrexia to guess their location.

"It's Voejuck Town," Thalrexia replied, her tone confident as she approached him. She had already foreseen their immediate future, witnessing their exploration of this place and learning its name—Voejuck Town, notorious for its slave traders and the vast number of slaves it harbored, was specifically ruled by the human race.

She proceeded to share everything she had seen during her vision, explaining how they would soon come to understand more about the town.

"A slave hub?" Keith echoed, absorbing her words. As he learned of Voejuck Town's grim reputation for the import and export of slaves, he couldn't help but connect it with the Shardholm Dominion—the same kingdom that had once been ruled by the true holder of Eros Flux.

Through Thalrexia's insights, he delved deeper into the region's past, uncoding its history. He discovered that 3,000 years earlier, a battle had erupted in this land, an isolated expanse amid the ocean.

The emperor at the center of the conflict was of the goblin race, and he had perished alongside a systematic genocide of his people.

This led to the region's current desolation and infertility. However, in the centuries that followed, while the royal line of that king had vanished, some goblin survivors, who had been outside the kingdom at the time, had managed to rebuild their populations.

Notably, they still remained among the least populous races in the world.

It became evident to Keith that the battle had been a joint effort among various races—dark elves, humans, dwarves—united in their fear of the goblin monarch and determined to eradicate him to prevent the resurgence of a forbidden technique attributed to his bloodline, a technique that had once wrought unspeakable horrors upon the world.

Processing all this newfound information, Keith began to grasp the connection between the unique ability he possessed and his bloodline, much like that of the slain emperor. Yet, he was also gripped by doubt regarding the reason he inhabited this body.

This connection stirred a sense of eeriness within him, as if he was with an unsolvable mystery; he felt an uncanny familiarity with this tale, despite being unable to pinpoint its origin.

His confidence in his memory—his knack for retaining everything he had read, seen, or heard in his past life—served to amplify his suspicions.

"Guide me," Keith instructed, fully aware that Thalrexia's foresight allowed her to glimpse ten minutes into the future. It was clear she could navigate them to safety in this perilous environment, especially considering the town's reputation as a slave hub.

He couldn't shake off the anxiety of how the local populace might react to an unfamiliar goblin like himself.
