Chess. A game that is old as hell. Like literally, the english word "Hell" is younger than the ealiest form of chess.
Game of chess in its simplicity, is complex to an incredible degree. It is played between two opponents using various pieces in contrasting colors, usually white and black, on a checkered board. The objective of the game is to capture the opponent's king.
There are some other rules, such as: if a pawn reaches the opposite end of the board, it may become a queen, the most powerful piece in the game, you can't beat your opponent with a steel chain, but these and some other rules may vary from place to place.
King tried playing chess with people on Haltom before. It wasn't as much fun as he anticipated. Most opponents quit after a few turns. King blamed his face, since he became a little too invested in having fun, and it may have scared some people. But it looked like, this King Ham Burger fellow really knew a thing or two about chess.
The King of Ballywood Kingdom brought out a beautifully custom carved set of chess and a board from the shelf and set it on the small coffee table before his desk. Nothing else was needed.
He quickly set up every piece in its intended position.
"I'll be white if you don't mind, King."
King liked his confidence. It's only better to have some resistance before winning.
He moved his pawn to D4.
"King, is it your real name?"
King moved his knight F6.
"Always has been. Is this a interrogation?"
Ham Burger moved his other pawn to C4.
"Isn't it only right to have some information about an individual of your capabilities on my land?"
King moved his pawn to E6.
"I suppose so. But you should be aware that I'm not anything like King from rumours."
"Did you enjoy your stay on Haltom?" King Ham Burger asked while moving his knight to F3.
"The last few days were not so bad." King answered as he moved his pawn to B6.
"Runned in quite a number of pirates, as I heard." Pawn to E3.
"Couldn't make a step outside before meeting another self-proclaimed future king of pirates." King signed and moved to B7 with his bishop.
"When my grandfather, Ham Sandwich, was the King, the place was quite different." Burger said sternly and moved white bishop to D3.
"What changed? The Age of Pirates has come?" King asked with curiosity. Pawn to D5.
"If only. The World Government made my nation weaker." Pawn B3.
"So you plan to change it?" Pawn C5.
"It's not that easy." Ballywood's King castled kingside.
"But you do have a plan ready?" King took white pawn on D4.
"I have some support." He took King's pawn with his own on D4.
"Can that "support" assist you with your goal?" King moved his bishop to E7.
"Dra-... current support really has a huge chance of harming my nation after they are done with their plans." His pause was dedicated to making his move, knight to D2.
"Revolutionary Army?" King asked and also castled kingside. King's face was stone cold, full concentration on the conversation. He can't remember last time he took a good look at the board.
"I would really appreciate it if this conversation never leaves this cabinet. Yes." Ham Burger looked King in the eyes and moved white bishop from C1 to B2.
"I can see chaos arising if they can't manage order after they finish the revolution." King made C6 with black knight.
"Creating and destroying are two really different things." The Ruler of Ballywood nodded and moved his queen to E2.
"So you plan to just seperate while the World Government fights the revolutinaries?" Rook to E8.
"Essentialy. I already have aqquired trust with both and what is left is that we really cannot handle if any major force attacks Ballywood. One admiral and we are done." He moved his rook to D1.
Silence fell upon the room as both deeply thought about the situation on hand. Only the sound of padded chess pieces hitting the board.
Bishop F8. Rook E1. Pawn G6. Bishop B1. Bishop G7. Knight E5. Rook C8...
The game continued for a while as Ham Burger took a longer and longer time to make a move.
On move 50 of the game, the white king became locked in the corner by King's queen, but the King of Ballywood didn't give up.
"You know, by hearing the state of things, I'm pretty sure the World Goverment will surely fall as it becomes weaker and loses its resources." King said.
Ham Burger protected his king with a rook and a pawn in the corner. He was clearly sweating, and King was just enjoying the game.
On move 55, a black pawn became a queen. King calmly took a spare piece for that occasion and placed it on the board. Ham Burger couldn't prevent it as he shielded his king with everything.
The Ruler of Ballywood sweated beads from this. He clearly played his toughest game and still lost.
The final move. King moved one of his queens back one space, to F3.
Checkmate.
"Next time, think more about the whole playing field. Consider for a moment that capturing the king piece isn't the winning condition in chess, but rather the amount of control you have over the game. How much would it change the way you play?"
King satisfied with a good match, slightly smiled.
King Ham Burger opened his eyes wide as he looked at the board.
"Why didn't I think of this.... Help the Revolutionary Army, destroy the World Government, and when revolutionary idology most probably fails to take proper control, become the new power. I just need to convince highly ideological revolutionaries that if they stand against Ballywood, they stand against the idea of a system made by the idea of justice for all and a freedom-filled world! They can't go against it! I can change the world completely! This changes everything! HA!.....HA!...HA!" King Ham Burger was extatic over this idea. His short burts of laughter were accompanied by nods, as he thought about the possibilities that this plan could bring.
*Knock* *Knock*
A bodybuilder in sunglasses and an apron with pink hearts opened the door and looked inside.
"Breakfast is ready, your Highness. Huh?" He was stunned seeing King Ham Burger laugh. He never did.
King just sat there dumbfounded over the sudden change of Ham Burgers mood.
If someone is intersted I took Vladimir Kramnik vs Garry Kasparov Botvinnik Mem Blitz Match from 2001. I had a choice to make this chapter simple or make it like I did. I try not to write trash here. (You have no idea how long it took to find a match that is a fit for my story).
