Chương 42: Chapter 42: Setting the Stage

As Alex Makunouchi and Ippo exited the bustling arena, the roaring crowd inside still a faint echo in the background, they were greeted by the cool night air. A few lingering fans outside called out to them, their excitement undiminished. As they made their way down the street, a familiar voice stopped them in their tracks.

"Makunouchi, a moment, please!"

Alex turned to see Minoru Fujii, a seasoned reporter known for his sharp questions,

weaving through the small crowd to catch up with them. Holding a tape recorder and a notebook, Fujii wasted no time.

"Alex, it's been four months since your last fight. I know you mentioned needing six months off to improve, but we're nearing that mark. The fans are eager—when do you think you'll step into the ring again?"

Alex, ever composed, adjusted his gym bag on his shoulder before responding.

"It's the right time to start planning. Riku Tanaka just fought tonight, so he'll need time to recover and heal. That's probably two months. After that, we'll need about a month for negotiations, promotion, and training camps. If all goes smoothly, I'd say we're looking at three months from now."

Fujii nodded, scribbling furiously in his notebook.

"That sounds like a solid timeline. Any final message for Tanaka or the fans eagerly waiting for this clash?"

Alex smirked slightly, his confidence shining through.

"Just be ready. I don't plan on letting anyone down—not myself, not the fans, and certainly not Tanaka. When the bell rings, you'll see what I've been working on."

With that, Fujii thanked Alex and turned back toward the arena to file his report. Ippo, who had remained quiet throughout the exchange, finally spoke up as they continued walking along the sidewalk.

"You really don't hold back, do you?"

"It's part of the game, Ippo. Confidence is half the battle. If you don't believe in yourself, no one else will."

As they walked, Ippo suddenly stopped. His gaze lifted to one of the massive billboards looming over the intersection. It featured Alex, dressed sharply in a stylish white coat, his fierce gaze looking directly into the camera. The Nike swoosh logo was prominent, with bold text underneath: "Step Into Greatness."

Ippo stared at it for a moment, a mix of admiration and determination in his eyes.

"That's... incredible. You're already up there, Alex. Everyone knows your name. I hope one day I'll be on a billboard like that too."

Alex followed Ippo's gaze, a rare softness crossing his expression.

"You will be, Ippo. Just keep doing what you're doing. Work hard, stay focused, and your time will come. Trust me, I see it in you."

Ippo smiled, his spirits lifted by Alex's

encouragement. The two cousins resumed their walk, the bright city lights reflecting their ambitions as they moved toward their next challenge. After the long night at the arena,

Alex and Ippo flagged down a taxi to head home. The ride back was quiet, the hum of the engine and the distant city noises providing a calming backdrop as the adrenaline from the night's events began to wear off.

When the taxi pulled up to their newly renovated home, Alex paid the driver, and they stepped out. The house was a picture of simplicity and comfort, now reflecting their growing success. The soft glow of warm lights spilled out from the windows, a welcoming sight against the evening sky.

They walked up the pathway, flanked by neatly trimmed bushes and colorful flowers—a touch of beauty courtesy of Hiroko Makunouchi. Alex had encouraged his aunt to take up gardening as a relaxing pastime after convincing her to retire from the strenuous fishing work. She had poured her heart into it, creating a small sanctuary of life and color in their backyard.

The first thing that greeted them inside was the spacious and cozy living room. At the center was a large, plush sofa that could comfortably seat the whole family. Across from it, mounted on the wall, was a big flat-screen TV—a luxury Alex had insisted on as a way to unwind after their intense training sessions.

To the side of the TV stood a tall wooden shelf encased in glass. It was currently empty, but Alex and Ippo often joked about how it would one day hold their championship belts and trophies. Alex had chosen it himself,

envisioning a future filled with accolades that would represent their hard work and dedication. The house now had four bedrooms, each tailored to its occupant.Alex and Ippo had their own rooms, personalized to their tastes. Alex's room was simple yet

modern, with a King-sized bed, a sleek desk for his plans and notebooks, and motivational posters on the walls. Ippo's room was more modest but cozy, reflecting his humble personality, with a small desk and a few framed photos of his family and friends.

Hiroko's room was a serene retreat, painted in soft pastel colors with a comfortable bed and plenty of space for her to relax. The fourth room was kept as a guest room, ready for any visitors who might stay over.

Out back, the garden was Hiroko's pride and joy. Rows of vibrant flowers lined the edges, their petals swaying gently in the breeze. A small vegetable patch occupied one corner, where she grew fresh produce for their meals. Alex often teased her about becoming a farmer, but he secretly admired how much care she put into every plant.

Beside the house was a garage that Alex had insisted on building despite not owning any cars yet. It was spacious, designed to fit three vehicles in the future when they decided to buy them. For now, it served as a makeshift storage space for larger items.

Adjacent to the garage was a dedicated storage room specifically for their boxing equipment. Neatly organized shelves and racks held their gloves, hand wraps,

headgear, and other gear. Alex had ensured everything had its place, knowing how crucial it was to keep their tools of the trade in top condition.

As they settled back into the house, the warm and welcoming atmosphere reminded them of how far they had come. Alex looked around, pride swelling in his chest. This wasn't just a house—it was a home, a testament to their hard work and dreams.

Ippo plopped onto the sofa with a sigh, the exhaustion from the night's events finally catching up to him. Alex joined him, glancing over at the empty glass shelf.

"One day, Ippo, that shelf's going to be full. And not just with my belts—yours too."

Ippo smiled, feeling the weight of Alex's confidence in him.

Ippo:

"Yeah. One day."

The two sat in comfortable silence, the promise of their shared dreams filling the air as the night deepened.

To be continued...
