Chương 49: 48 Konoha's collapse plan officially begins

Just as the Third Hokage prepared to disqualify Sasuke, the "Kazekage," secretly Orochimaru in disguise, intervened. He suggested giving Sasuke a bit more time.
The Hokage reluctantly agreed, considering the high expectations of the spectators and dignitaries from across the lands.
The countdown ticked away, nearing the final seconds of the allotted time. Suddenly, with a dramatic flurry of leaves, two figures appeared on the battlefield: Kakashi and Sasuke.
Dressed in a new outfit, Sasuke carried himself with renewed confidence, mirroring Kakashi's nonchalant demeanor. He stood with his hands in his pockets, one leg bent, radiating an aura of anticipation and readiness.
Gaara, ever expressionless, descended the stairs to face his opponent.
The match began. Sasuke threw two shuriken, which were immediately blocked by Gaara's sand clone. Wasting no time, Sasuke closed the gap and shattered the sand clone with a powerful punch. He continued his relentless assault on Gaara.
Gaara attempted to defend himself with a sand wall, but Sasuke, with astonishing speed and agility, maneuvered behind Gaara and landed a strike on his sand armor. The impact shattered a portion of the protective shell on Gaara's face.
From the stands, Rock Lee and Might Guy were astonished, recognizing the movements that mimicked Lee's taijutsu from the preliminaries.
Sasuke maintained the offensive, dodging Gaara's sand attacks and delivering a spinning kick that sent Gaara reeling. Enraged, Gaara began forming hand seals, his expression turning darker and more menacing. Soon, he enveloped himself in a cocoon of sand—a precursor to summoning One Tail.
Sasuke's strikes were repelled by the sand's counterattacks, forcing him to retreat and reassess. He scaled a nearby wall, forming hand seals for a jutsu taught by Kakashi. Lightning began crackling around his hand, forming the [Chidori].
With unparalleled speed, Sasuke dashed toward Gaara, the Chidori piercing through the sand cocoon and injuring Gaara within.
For the first time, Gaara saw his own blood. The sight drove him into a frenzy, his screams echoing across the battlefield. His sanity frayed further as a grotesque claw of sand began to emerge from the cocoon.
Meanwhile, in the stands, Kabuto, disguised as an Anbu, sprang into action. He cast a large-scale Genjutsu, causing most spectators to fall unconscious. Naruto, however, activated his latent Sharingan and dispelled the illusion.
Simultaneously, Orochimaru, still masquerading as the Kazekage, made his move. His guards threw smoke bombs, incapacitating the Hokage's attendants, and revealed their true identities. Orochimaru seized the Third Hokage and transported him to a rooftop, where the Sound Four erected the Four Violet Flames Formation, cutting off access to the Hokage.
Konoha's defenders scrambled to react. Massive three-headed snakes summoned by Orochimaru began wreaking havoc, breaching Konoha's walls and allowing an army of Sound and Sand ninja to flood the village.
Chaos erupted. The unprepared Konoha forces suffered heavy casualties as they scrambled to defend their home.
Back at the arena, Naruto watched the unfolding chaos with a peculiar excitement. He leaned against the railing, a dark glint in his eyes, and licked his lips—a mannerism strikingly similar to Orochimaru.
Meanwhile, Gaara, now unstable and chakra-drained, was escorted out by his siblings, Kankuro and Temari, under the orders of their Jōnin leader, Baki. Recognizing the risk of Gaara losing control and unleashing One Tail prematurely, Baki prioritized his safety.
Shiranui Genma (Hayate Gekkō's replacement as referee) stood in Sasuke's defense, realizing the implications of Gaara's retreat. He instructed Sasuke to pursue Gaara but emphasized caution.
In the midst of the turmoil, Kakashi and Might Guy decided to prioritize the Hokage's rescue. However, Kabuto, leading a contingent of Sound ninja, intercepted them. They entrusted the pursuit of Gaara to Sakura, Shikamaru (now awakened), and Rock Lee, accompanied by Kakashi's ninken, Pakkun.
As for Naruto? He had vanished from the stands, preparing a "gift" for Konoha amidst the chaos.
Elsewhere, Kankuro and Temari attempted to escort Gaara to safety but were intercepted by a masked red-haired woman—Naruto in disguise. With swift and overwhelming force, she incapacitated the siblings and vanished with Gaara, leaving the two stunned and bewildered.
