Sheng Li wasn't stunned because it was a divine beast, but…
Because it was a wild-line creature—the lowest-level creature even among wild-line races.
It was a 'Spirit Silkworm.'
Both the silkworm and Yang Feng opened their eyes at the same time. The silkworm looked at Yang Feng with its beady eyes, while Yang Feng studied the creature closely.
Yang Feng knew it was a wild-line creature, as a certain Codex had already told him, his pets would always be of the lowest level.
Despite this, he smiled as he felt the connection between him and the silkworm.
Seeing Yang Feng smile, the silkworm quickly crawled toward him and rubbed its tiny head against his leg. Amused, Yang Feng picked it up and placed it in his palm, observing it carefully.
The silkworm had a white, eight-sectioned body. Unlike normal silkworms—which weren't even considered wild-line creatures—this one had a large, round head, two feelers, and a pair of mandibles. It was surprisingly cute.
As Yang Feng examined the little creature, it began to doze off. Seeing this, he chuckled and said, "Since you're white, I'll call you Pearl."
Sheng Li, who had been silently watching, frowned in thought. To become an Evolver, I've studied countless beasts and relics. I've even encountered bizarre ones. But this is the first time I've seen a relic summon and contract a beast on its own while its bearer meditated.
He glanced at the Spirit Silkworm.
And that it's a Spirit Silkworm, no less... A wild-line creature of such low grade.
Yet, Sheng Li noticed Yang Feng showed no frustration about the silkworm's grade.
This relic… It's extraordinary. Yang Feng must be hiding something.
Sheng Li dismissed the idea that Yang Feng was ignorant of the silkworm's grade—it was basic knowledge, taught in high school. His thoughts darkened momentarily.
Still, he thought, as long as he doesn't turn into a traitor like those, his success will only be beneficial to humans.
A vein popped on Sheng Li's forehead as he thought about the traitors.
Meanwhile, Yang Feng was playing with Pearl when a call came through on his star watch. Sheng Li snapped out of his thoughts as Yang Feng looked toward the watch, suddenly realizing he was still naked.
Flushing red, Yang Feng quickly grabbed his clothes and dressed before daring to check who was calling.
It was his mother.
Seeing the time—5:30 PM—Yang Feng slapped his forehead. His mother had been scheduled to land at 5:00 PM, meaning he had spent six hours cultivating.
Hurriedly answering the call, he was greeted by his mother's anxious voice.
"Feng, are you alright? Why aren't you here to pick me up?"
"Are you feeling unwell? Tell me where you are, and I'll come to you!"
"Mom, Mom, don't worry! I'm fine!" Yang Feng said quickly, afraid she might start crying.
There was a brief silence on the other end, followed by an angry voice tinged with occasional sobs.
"Then why aren't you here yet? Do you know how worried I was when you didn't show up? I thought something had happened again! I haven't even seen you since the Astral Veil incident!"
Yang Feng's heart ached with guilt. "I'm sorry, Mom. I'm on my way now. I'll explain everything when I see you."
He ended the call and dashed toward the door, only to be stopped by Sheng Li's voice.
"Where are you going?"
Yang Feng froze, only then remembering Sheng Li's presence. Turning around, he scratched his head awkwardly.
"Teacher Sheng, my mom just arrived on Blue Cloud Planet. She wasn't here during the Astral Veil incident, and I was injured, so she came back in a hurry. She's waiting at the space station, and I—"
Sheng Li interrupted him. "Why are you in such a hurry? I'll send someone to pick her up. You have more important matters to attend to."
"But—" Yang Feng tried to protest.
"No buts," Sheng Li said firmly, already making arrangements on his star watch.
"But you don't even know what my mom looks like," Yang Feng muttered under his breath.
Sheng Li gave him a sidelong glance. "I know."
Yang Feng blinked in suspicion. "How?"
Rolling his eyes, Sheng Li sat on the ground and gestured for Yang Feng to do the same. "Why are you so suspicious of everything?"
Yang Feng sat down, feeling embarrassed.
"There's nothing to be suspicious about," Sheng Li said. "The Skyfire Beastmaster Institute investigates all its students thoroughly. Did you think just anyone could enter the Federation's top Beastmaster academy?"
Yang Feng lowered his head. I think Cody is making me paranoid.
(Cody: Yes, of course, this is my fault too.)
"Aren't you going to place Pearl in the relic?" Sheng Li asked, glancing at the silkworm, which had somehow climbed onto Yang Feng's head.
Yang Feng summoned a gray, palm-sized formation above Pearl. The silkworm was sucked into it and vanished.
It was a pet formation, used to summon and send pet within the relic's Pet Space.
The color of the Pet Formation, used to summon and store pets, reflects a Beastmaster's strength. From lowest to highest, the colors are:
Ashen Gray
Ivory White
Cerulean Blue
Emerald Green
Yellow
Sapphire Blue
Crimson Red
These correspond to the cultivation levels:
Mortal Bond
Spiritual Apprentice
Beastmaster
Beast Resonance
Spiritual Mastery
Beast Fusion
Celestial Beastmaster
As for Levels 8 and 9, Yang Feng only knew of their existence from Ao Xing but had no details about them.
Sheng Li's expression turned serious. "I assume you know your pet's grade?"
Yang Feng hesitated, then nodded.
"Then I also assume you haven't told me the true abilities of your relic."
"That's fine—it's a good habit to keep important things secret. I won't ask about your relic, as I've said before. I'm not interested in it."
Yang Feng sighed in relief.
"But," Sheng Li added, "you must promise me one thing."
Yang Feng looked at him curiously.
"You must promise never to betray the human inside you," Sheng Li said gravely. "You don't have to make this promise to anyone else—only to yourself."
Yang Feng was puzzled, not understanding Sheng Li's intentions.
Sheng Li shook his head. "You'll understand in time, as long as you stay true to your heart."
While Yang Feng was feeling puzzled about Sheng Li's sudden mention of traitors, a knock sounded on the door.
"Master Sheng, your guest is here." A voice came from outside.
Yang Feng looked at Sheng Li, thinking who could be this guest.
Sheng Li waved his hand and door opened.
A woman in t-shirt and blue jeans walked in.
"So soon" Yang Feng said in surprise, because it was his mother.
He quickly stood up and ran to his mother. Hugging her tightly.
His mother also hugged back and afterward checked Yang Feng from head to toe, to see if he is fine.
Behind Yang Feng when Sheng Li saw the woman his heart skipped a beat.
