"Work is done, everyone!"
"The Generator is on!"
A commotion erupted under the Generator. Although everyone was exhausted from their labor, being near the Generator always brought a sense of security.
Inside the workstation, the sound of gears gradually came to a halt. The Tesla coil at the back was covered with a protective layer once more, and there was no longer any electric discharge. "The textile factory research is complete."
Without giving the engineers a moment's rest, Wang Zhan immediately queued the next technology—[Drafting Table], which unlocks Level 1 technology.
"The Generator's orders are finally complete."
The three workers in the workstation placed the completed blueprints and the operational flowchart for the textile factory on the typewriter on the first floor, waiting for it to process.
A mechanical sound echoed as the complex mechanisms on the ceiling began to engage. The table next to the typewriter rose, and the prepared documents were sent to the top floor.
"What happens when we need to use them? Don't tell me we'll have to fetch them ourselves?"
The infected workers watched their work disappear from sight. The workstation then fell silent, the sound of machinery ceasing entirely. Perhaps the Generator had already seen the fruits of their labor.
What a fulfilling job!
The three were still reminiscing about the details of their work when the typewriter beside them began clanking, spitting out a new command: [Tool: Drafting Table].
Following the new orders, they decided to head to the top floor to retrieve the necessary documents. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
"The Generator asked me to pick up the blueprints for the textile factory," Alina said when the door opened. The three greeted her and directed her to the top floor.
"Originium deposits, basic type..."
Alina quickly found the blueprints and operational flowchart for the textile factory. She carried the documents to the transport mechanism, standing as the counterweights outside the window slowly lifted her up.
Through the grid window, the campfires outside were lit, and workers had returned to the camp. Laughter echoed around the Generator.
"Miss Alina, take care," the three workers said as they rested on the first floor. Seeing Alina descending from the top floor, they resolved to continue their work.
"Alright! Let's move on to the next task!"
Carrying the blueprints, Alina returned to the camp and gathered ten workers. They retrieved 20 units of wood and ten units of steel from the storage, heading to the site designated by Wang Zhan.
"Miss Alina, what are we doing?"
From the screen, Wang Zhan explained, "The workstation has drafted the necessary blueprints. From now on, you'll be building the structures manually."
Reading the textile factory description, Alina relayed, "The textile factory can turn animal hides from hunting into 'Firefly' cold-weather clothing. Once completed, the Generator will equip everyone with these as quickly as possible."
"Winter clothing?!"
The workers were shy but couldn't hide their happiness. In just a few days, the Generator had provided them with warmth, enough food, and now even new clothes to protect them from the cold.
"Haha, the Generator is so generous, and all we do is the hard labor—makes me feel guilty."
"This is what the Generator promised everyone. Just accept it with gratitude," Alina said warmly, scanning the group. Everyone was full of energy, eager to get started.
"Alright, listen to my instructions..."
Watching from the screen, Wang Zhan observed the workers assembling the textile factory. The teamwork and unity brought him a deep sense of satisfaction.
What capitalist wouldn't feel gratified by such a sight?
After about three hours, the textile factory was complete. Wang Zhan inspected the structure through the system interface. The building required ten workers, with standard working hours from 8 AM to 6 PM, though overtime was possible.
The building interface displayed an internal diagram of the textile factory. Workers were seen retrieving fabric from a steam-driven mule machine, while others stitched the material into finished garments, complete with "Firefly" lanterns.
Although Wang Zhan understood the general process, he wasn't a worker, so he left the detailed explanations to Alina.
"Mr. Zhan, the textile factory is complete," Alina reported excitedly.
The other workers crowded around the factory, chattering. Infected passersby also gathered curiously.
"This building—it's for making clothes, they say."
"Clothes? Does the Generator need clothes, too? How much fabric will that take?"
"Are you dumb..."
Wang Zhan didn't bother responding to the chatter, instead praising Alina. She, in turn, reassured him, "They may not know how to express themselves, but they're all very grateful to you."
"Heh, I know. You're quite perceptive."
Alina felt a bit proud but maintained a composed expression, her deer-like ears twitching happily.
"It's already late. Why hasn't Talulah returned?"
Alina recalled Talulah heading to Zweiburg, a mobile city some distance away. "She won't be back until tomorrow."
Tomorrow would bring clarity on whether the black market would agree to trade and, more importantly, handle the transportation. Misjudging the timing could result in goods being lost to the storm.
That would be a disaster!
"I hope she returns soon."
Wait, he'd forgotten something—Karl, who had left for the canyon.
"Where's Karl? He's been gone all afternoon."
"He's back. I left him some food; he's eating now," Alina answered. She'd already learned that the guerrillas were attacking an infected transit station.
The Generator's proposal would likely receive a reply tomorrow.
"Did you ask if he found anything during patrol?"
Alina tapped her lip thoughtfully. "He said the infected seemed to have discovered a warm cave. Wheat grows on the rocks outside, but they heard strange 'puffing' sounds from within."
Puffing sounds?
That suggested animals inside.
Wang Zhan remembered a scenario from a game script—a resource point called "Shadowed Hollow." Entering it triggered a choice to rescue trapped individuals, but it turned out to be a bear's den, often leading to unexpected casualties.
Could this cave be similar?
Better to err on the side of caution and avoid exploring it.
Reviewing the day's plans and confirming nothing was overlooked, Wang Zhan told Alina, "That's all for today. Thank you, Alina."
"You too. Be sure to rest early."
On the screen, the little deer waved to the Generator with a smile. The cheerful crowd dispersed to their camps, laughter lingering in the air.
