This is the first time the 11th royal princess, Biron Yin Shu has done something like this. Usually, it is her older sisters and brothers who have the tendency to engage in such escapades. With only one guard following her, she joined the pilgrimage. Her disguise is nothing impressive too. Just a bunch of ragged clothes she bought from a random kid from the slums. Her guard is similarly under disguise.
With one look, you could tell that they are only wearing a disguise, but the people are not paying much attention to them, because of the sacredness that the pilgrimage is enshrouding the people. Yin Shu is certain of what she is seeing. The people if not almost devout are fanatics. There is this burning emotion invoked in them.
Can such a simple and crass speech achieve something like this? Yin Shu is in doubt but as she recalled the visage of the passionate young man, she has to decline her shallow belief that such speech was merely simple and crass. Analyzing it from another angle, Yin Shu realized that its simpleness is what allowed it to deliver the message successfully to the masses, and its crassness is just but another form of honesty.
Yin Shu can even go as far as to label the young man as a genius speaker who might even be better than herself. This hurts her pride greatly. As a royal princess with a great lack of talent in cultivation, she has been shunned for some time. Her elder sisters and brothers are penultimate geniuses who achieved a level of cultivation at the earliest age of five.
At the age of ten, Yin Shu has nothing yet to show, thus pushing her to rely on another field which is politics. After a series of accomplishments, her standing in the palace changed, however, the fact that her cultivation talent is still dirt poor is a sore spot for her.
Seeing a genius of speech evoked her competitive spirit and jealousy. She recalled her many elder siblings who went abroad to further their cultivation all thanks to their genius. The only royal blood remaining in the palace except the king and queen are just Yin Shu. There was this kind of loneliness in her.
As she watched that speech, Yin Shu realized that she might not be that alone anymore. However, when the young boy speaker got assassinated at the podium, a kind of rage was evoked in her. The only reason she didn't act on her rage is because of the solemn way that the young boy declared that the people will see him again.
There are many reasons why Yin Shu joined this pilgrimage. She has many questions and so is a lot of expectations.
"Young lady, we shouldn't stay here anymore. Clearly, the path to this pilgrimage is more difficult than we could imagine…" Yin Shu's only bodyguard at the moment, Shan Yusin, tried to convince her, but Yin Shu shook her head in denial.
The bodyguard is right. Arriving in the Butterberry forest, Yin Shu realized the true difficulty that the pilgrimage presented. Yin Shu didn't come unprepared. In fact, she has a spiritual ring in which Spiritual Storage is brimming with artifacts and food. If it comes to it, she can survive for a long time.
However, the current Butterberry forest is quite against her expectations. According to the royal records, this place should be teeming with normal beasts and rarely with demonic beasts. But now, from the periphery of the forests, Yin Shu can see the savage beast lurking from every corner through her Beast Gazing Talisman.
Suddenly, a dignified voice was heard from everywhere.
"THE PATH HAS OPENED! ONLY THE ENLIGHTENED SHALL THE PATH PRESENT ITSELF!"
It echoed with unique splendor desiring whoever heard it to kneel. Yin Shu almost did if not for what is left of her reasoning as a royal princess not to. It was a Supreme Being, that, Yin Shu could surmise. She looks at her bodyguard who is kneeling.
Yin Shun had a thought. Whatever that voice was isn't targeted to the cultivation base of who heard it, but their mental fortitude. Her bodyguard who is supposed to have a higher level of cultivation than her is kneeling on the ground after all.
The words of the message echoed in yin Shu's mind, and she investigated it with excitement. "Only the enlightened shall the path present itself?" She asked herself the meaning of these words.
"The path must be a safe path the Supreme Being prepared for us so that we don't have to face the beasts in this forest. The Enlightened must be those who can withstand the voice…" Quickly, Yin Shu came to a conclusion.
"Shan Yusin, follow me… I think I can lead us to a path…" Her loyal bodyguard didn't question her judgment, but simply and obediently followed. That's her job after all.
After some swerving and walking in what is supposed to be a dreary forest, Yin Shu and Shan Yusin suddenly found themselves in a mysterious path of polished white marble.
Shan Yusin's jaws are hanging wide open as the path's majesty alone is superior in so many times compared to the royal road connecting the royal palace to the royal gates.
Yin Shu is similarly astounded. She doesn't have any cultivation base, but she could tell that there is this mysterious force enveloping the road.
The two, princess and bodyguard, proceeded forward. Slowly, more people gathered on this road. At first, Shan Yusin is very wary of them, but as the crowd on the mystical path grows, she realized that this increasing procession is only natural.
In Yin Shu's mind, this is expected. After all, she cannot be the only enlightened one. Thus, the pilgrimage continued.
The path itself has no name yet, but as time passed by, this road will be known as the Fairy Path.
Yin Shu observed her surroundings. There were yellow glittering lights like fireflies hovering in the path. It is the peak of the sun yet this glittering light is still observable through the naked eye. Though it should be scorching hot as it is high noon, it is in fact relaxing and even comforting as they proceed on this path. It was miraculous.
The very exhaustion they accumulated throughout the journey is vanishing as they arrived closer to their destination.
Finally from a distance, Yin Shu's eyes landed on a majestic palace of red, gold, and jade. The palace is even grander than the royal family's palace.
Yin Shu started doubting the origin of this place. This place should at least have the power of a kingdom or a Sect Estate that has its own government! There is no way she'd believe a new rising sect without anything on its name is behind this.
She has to research everything that is ought to be learned about the System's Providence Sect.
"Young lady, I am scared…" Shan Yusin fearfully said.
Yin Shu understood what she meant. If a situation called for it, and Yin Shu's life might be in danger, Shan Yusin is not confident in protecting her.
"Don't worry, Yusin… I am the youngest daughter of the emperor. I might be of royal blood, but I am virtually useless. If I were to die, it wouldn't affect much of the kingdom…"
"Princess!?" Shan Yusin angrily raised her voice. "Don't think like that! Your life is more valuable than you could imagine… I swear, I will protect your life with everything I have!"
"… Thank you…" Yin Shu felt warmth in her heart as she heard her bodyguard's words. But Yin Shu isn't wrong either. Her life's worth is exactly that.
The procession halted their steps on the foot of the Desolate Mountain as a clear feminine voice present itself to each and every one of them. Accompanying the voice is an illusory light of blue greeting them.
[Welcome to the Immortal City!]
What Immortal City? Yin Shu looked around and all she can see is a wide clearing of empty grasslands, some rocky slopes, and flat dirt.
[You wish to be presented a third option, as per the 'Little General' advertised, the system shall present you a path— the cultivator's path! The System's Providence Sect can offer you 'classes' and 'subclasses' to assist you in your cultivation. However, you will need to work hard.
