Chương 55: Grunt Tales

The grunt's tales continue…

Fear freezes him at that instant. It was terrible. These characters from the Beautiful Berserker Sect are not beautiful at all. Grunt instinctually ignores the poor male servant carrying over well a basket of fruits. Instead, his gaze lands on a very conspicuous petite figure, she appears to be the sect master.

Contrary to the other cultivators by her side who are exaggeratedly buff. This sect master is quite petite and possesses a unique charm to her.

Grunt rubs his eyes in disbelief all over his face.

As all of the famous sect masters gather on their respective designated pedestals, the grunt thinks that there would be no surprises anymore. For now, he has to focus his attention on the lower sects to gather as many details as possible not to disappoint his superiors.

The pretending sect masters of the Wolf Lightning Sect, Life Revival Sect, Sword Praying Sect, and the Earth Embracing Sect plan to commit genocide first and foremost targeting the sects close to their fame. Next to them are the smaller sects that they have no plans of sparing.

Bao Zeming who is playing host for the King's Challenge continues to introduce the names of the sect participants. The arena for the event is a large square marble floor. Surrounding it are high bleachers, and at the top-most of the bleachers is the pedestal for the sect participants.

For the grunt to take a careful observation of the participants, he has to go around the bleachers to see more accurately. As all of the pedestals for the sect participants are at the topmost of the bleachers and the grunt's seat is at the bottom-most, he has to use his cultivation powers to see and observe the sect participants.

He has to be very careful though lest he destroys his disguise. As a 3rd stage cultivator, he might have some strength in this backwater country, but such strength is too petty in comparison to the sect masters who have it better than him.

Suddenly, the sound of drums echoes in the arena. The grunt begins to think for himself. Is there another bigshot he doesn't know about?

Bao Zeming who is playing host for the King's Challenge also looks more excited than usual. The grunt is not blind and sees the excitement of the host.

"Ladies and gentlemen, let's give applause to the unknown sect that comes from the south! Their tales have long been forgotten, but their sword experts and warriors did have tales of heroics challenging those who are above their levels!"

The grunt frowns at the obvious favoritism. He looks at the famous sect masters to see if they have something of interest he can take note of. However, he realizes, the sect masters are in confusion too.

"The Flowing Blade Sect!" Bao Zeming announces.

The famous sect masters' expression of confusion is evident on their faces. It looks like they don't know what this sect is even. The other sect masters of lower sects similarly had dubious expressions on their faces. The grunt takes note of this.

Though this Flowing Blade Sect starts to get unfavorable in his eyes, he shouldn't judge too quickly. There must be a reason why this Flowing Blade Sect is shown favorably.

Suddenly coming out of the arena gates is a very interesting party. It seems that little white bunny is leading the entourage of cultivators… and there seems to be quite exaggeratedly too many of them… The others only bring several, and you bring a militia!?

Moreover, a bunny? Is this their sect master?

The situation is so incredulous he cannot believe what he is seeing.

"Is that a Sacred Beast!?" The shock just gets bigger as he realizes the identity of the little bunny.

Bao Zeming kindly explains. "This is actually the first time their sect is participating. Since the establishment of King's Challenge, we aren't able to reach every cultivator. However, with effort comes the fruit of our labor. We welcome the Flowing Blade Sect. Unfortunately, the sect master of Flowing Blade Sect won't be able to attend, as he is busy with cultivation. I greet you the sect master's proxy Bi Yuan…" He politely addresses the bunny.

"Kyu~ kyu!" The bunny by the name of Bi Yuan cutely replies.

"Awww~" The mortals react… They are melting in the bunny cuteness. Even the grunt almost gives in to the cuteness if not for him remembering he is a member of a demonic sect.

This Flowing Blade Sect becomes a very powerful and enigmatic figure to the grunt's eyes. It must mean there really are powerful, mysterious, and hidden sects here in the Biron Kingdom that they must not take lightly to… The grunt notes the Flowing Blade Sect as a very dangerous existence.

The grunt emphasizes how Bao Zeming threw a string of endearing words and preferential treatment to the Flowing Blade Sect. For this sect's sect master not attending must mean the sect master must have a lot of faces to save! He might be able to literally ignore the King's words which speaks to how much power he possesses.

Of course, that was all bullshit and the wrong assumption, not that the grunt needs to know that.

Only now did the grunt realize the commotion happening to the mortals. They are murmuring quite a lot of confusing things. The grunt stretches his hearing and listens to the gossiping of mortals.

"Hey, wasn't that auntie Ting?"

"The dumpling shop owner! What the—"

"Aren't that my neighbor?"

"Uncle Fan! Look at me!"

"The last time I saw this you uns was in the tongue!"

"Damn, the last I heard of them is they wanted to be cultivators!"

"WaAAaaA~ what the hell are they doing there!?"

"Didn't they join the System's Providence Sect?"

"Why is it the Flowing Blade Sect then?"

The grunt catches a very important tidbit from the gossip and murmurs. It is that the System's Providence Sect might share a connection with the Flowing Blade Sect.

This System's Providence Sect is a recently rising Sect. They possess powerful influence as it seems they have very talented speakers and preachers. It is so often the grunt hears the take of the 'Little General' convincing masses of people to join his sect.

The grunt had a eureka moment and looks at the royal pedestal where the 'Little General' seats. A shiver runs down his spine. The grunt looks at the old man sitting beside the Biron King. Perhaps, Is that the sect master of the Flowing Blade Sect? Or worse… Is it the System's Providence Sect?

"Did I just learn something I shouldn't?"

Suddenly, the old man beside the King looks at him. The grunt and the old man's eyes meet. The grunt's heart literally starts beating out of his chest.
