The sudden glow of the desk lamp made her step back, and as she blinked to regain her vision, her mouth dropped open in surprise. Ross Breslin sat there, arms folded on the desk top, a shrewd smile tugging at his lips.
"Hello there, Allie, or do you prefer Francesca now?"
"What's going on here?" Frowning, she took small steps towards him.
"Sit down first, and I'll fill you in." He indicated the brocade wing chair near the desk.
"You're Mr. Brenner?" she asked as she took a seat. Amazement, curiosity and vexation fought for her immediate attention.
"Yes, I'm Brenner." He relaxed against the plush leather of the desk chair. "Now then. Where to start? Let's just say I know what's going on and I'm on your side. I've known since the beginning."
She leaned forward, "and what side is that pray tell?"
