Chương 8: Love is never enough

Amy woke up with a disturbing headache as she sat on a chair facing the mirror in her room. His room was nothing fancy, just a bed a wardrobe and a small wooden table and chair with a mirror hung on the wall slightly above the table.

She picked up some wipes from her drawer to clean off the makeup left on her face.

Gina, Amy's mother walked into Amy's room at 8:00 am ing. She knocked slightly

"Amy darling, can I come in?"

"Yes, ma" the door isn't locked Amy replied slowly. She had a disturbing headache which was a result of her getting drunk she was also feeling a bit light-headed.

"How are you feeling?" Gina asked in a concerned tone.

"I'm okay ma.... "she continued right after without allowing her mother to interrupt

"I know what you want to say and I'm in the mood for you to prep talk."

Okay fine, but just listen to what I have to say.

"I know it was wrong for your dad to hit you the way he did last night but his anger is justified. This young man you're throwing your life away for, this young man that you feel is everything to you is going to break your heart. He isn't responsible and you deserve so much more.

Love is never enough. There are other things you need to look at for in a good man"

She knew her mother was right. She knew she ought to listen but she was foolish she didn't listen

Back to the present...

Amy looked into Rudolph's eyes and the three golden words came out

"I am pregnant"

"What?!

' pregnant?'

Rudolph asked with a very surprised look.

One glance at him, Amy knew she should have listened to her mother. She knew he didn't want the child.

"You need to get rid of it"

"What?!"

"You want me to get rid of our baby?" she said making a tight fist her face was already all red.

She was feeling nauseous that morning and had vomited severally. She had decided to stop by the pharmacy to get a pregnancy test kit and it had read positive. Her heart sank. She was confused and shattered. She had called Rudolph because she d8dnt know what else to do. She had thought about his reaction

"Is he going to accept? is he going to reject? He loves me right.

"He should be happy about having our baby"

"Love conquers all"

These thoughts ravaged her mind as she got down from the bus to meet him.

If she wasn't sure about his reaction or if she wasn't sure about the answer to those questions she was sure now.

He didn't want it

Tears welled up her eyes as she looked at him

"I can't" she managed to mumble those words out of her mouth.

"What do you mean by you can't?" Rudolph said in a sudden outburst that attracted the attention of others in the cafe.

He calmed himself down and repeated in a low time holding both her shoulders.

I'm not ready to be a father, you have to get rid of it.

"Why not? You have an apartment, you earn and you're not doing so bad financially" she said as a drop of tears rolled down her face.

"Ju..ss..t get rid of it" he stammered.

"Here" he handed her a stack of cash.

" Get rid of it."

Amy took the stash and walked out angrily.

"Amy, would you do it?" he asked again from a distance.

She stopped and turned to look at him.

"If you don't want him then that's fine he'll just have to live without you."

She walked without taking a second glance at him. She was careful to hide how hurt she was. Her mum was right? She had sacrificed her future for nothing. It didn't matter anymore she was going to start fresh and raise her son. She was just 2 weeks gone and in her finals. She was going to bear the shame and finish school. She took up menial jobs and cut off communication with her family. She couldn't face them. She couldn't bear to take a second look at her dad. Hence she left a note

" Mum, Dad, I know you had so much hope and trust in me that I was going to make you proud but it turns out that I'm not good at anything in life hence is be leaving to try hard to make you both proud and be the daughter you wish I were.

Love you both"

Gina had cried her eyes out after reading the letter. Her baby girl was gone. She had no idea where she was. She could only pray and hope she was fine.

Amy came back 6 years later

'A lot had happened in 6 years.'

Gina assessed the little boy he was such a cute little boy. Tears welled up in her eyes as she drew her grandson close to her and embraced him. She gave him a slight peck on his forehead. For what is worth she was just glad to see her daughter and grand son. After the brief emotional display she turned to Amy as the tears effortlessly dropped.

She looked at Amy and ran a quick assessment on her. She wasn't looking bad.

"Have you been living well?" She asked with a croaky voice.

"I've been okay mum." She replied slowly, watching her mum embrace her son for the first time had gotten her emotional.

"What happened to you, I want to hear all of it" her father finally spoke.

He didn't have the heart to remain angry at her after 6 whole years and seeing his grandson had melted his eyes.

He had his mother's eyes. One that could make anyone fall in love instantly he was really adorable.

Her parents had a lot of questions.

"what happened to you?"

"where are you now?"

"have you seen his father?"
