Chương 8: Meeting

When I wake up the next day, I go straight to the shower. After getting dressed, I walk to the kitchen to find a large, black Raven sitting in my kitchen window. Binx sits on the counter next to the window and licks his paws in the bright afternoon sun.

I walk over and say "It's a pleasure to see you again, Eon." Eon turns his dark raven eyes to me and nods his head saying "It's good to see you too. Your mother wants to tell you that she will return soon."

I turn on the coffee machine and nod my head asking "So she's still alive?" Eon chuckles and says "I'll let her know you were worried about her safety." With a flap of his large black wings, he takes flight and soon disappears.

Eon was my mother's familiar and in a way, like a weird tiny uncle to me. He's been there since I was born and I grew up with the guy. I look over to Binx with I hear him groan "Why is she returning now? She stays gone for ten years at a time and pops in whenever she wants..."

I silently smile as I sip my hot coffee. My mother was never very maternal but she isn't evil or mean to me. She raised me and taught me everything I know but as soon as I could keep myself safe, she took off to roam the world.

It used to bother me when I was younger but I'm used to it now. She used to belong to a powerful coven but when she found out she was pregnant with me, she left the coven on the pretense of wanting to explore the world.

In a way, she wasn't lying. As far as I'm concerned, she can come and go all she wants. It's nice to know that she's alive and well and sometimes when I'm stuck or in need of answers, she'll show up to help.

I look up to the clock and cringe. I slept most of the day away and now I have to get ready for the meeting tonight. I have a feeling tonight's meeting is going to end badly. Call it a witches intuition. I get dressed in a long, low cut black dress and allow my long hair to trail down my back.

I slip into plain black heels as I put on dark eyeshadow and dark red lipstick. I look myself over in the mirror before nodding with satisfaction. I slip on my scent covering charm and a long black cape as I walk over to Binx. He continues to groom himself on the couch as I pat his head and say "I'll call you if anything happens."

Binx nods and says "Be careful" before going back to grooming himself. I smile and lift my hand, opening a portal. As I step through the portal, it closes behind me. When I place my foot down on the other side, I'm at the council meeting.

When I see several supernaturals still showing up, I sigh with relief and begin walking into the large meeting room. It bothers me that any Supernatural over the age of a hundred has to attend this meeting. I wonder what's going on...

I look around the large room and see that all the seats were quickly filling up. I make sure my hood is pulled up as I walk over and find a seat of my own. Shifters usually sit with other shifters while Vampires sit with their own kind. Witches sit with their covens and so on.

Me? I usually end up between the Elves and demons. I keep my hood up as I glance around the large room. It doesn't seem like the others know why they're being called to this meeting either. Suddenly, a familiar scent hits me as someone sits next to me.

I glance over to see Xander sitting next to me in all his glory. I grit my teeth and stand up to leave when a Vampire suddenly blocks my path with a smirk. He glances at me before his dark blue eyes land on Xander "What do we have here? Xander himself is sitting next to some lone witch... who might she be?"

Xander remains cool and collected as he turns to look at the Vampire and says "Ambrose... nice to see that you haven't turned into dust yet." Ambrose smiles at him before turning back to me. He lifts his hand out to shake my hand and waits with a smile.

I think about slapping his hand away but when I heard his name... I can't. This is the head Vampire, Ambrose. I've never seen the man's face but I have killed a handful of his men. Let's just hope he doesn't know that... I give him a polite, if not strained, smile as I take his hand.

He brings my hand up to his lips and even though I want to pull away, the Vampire is entirely too strong. He places a soft kiss on my hand and takes a deep breath but when I see his frown, I know the charm is doing its job.

Ambrose's shoulder-length, dirty blonde hair gently falls forward as he looks up to me with clear eyes. Ambrose is a very old Vampire and extremely powerful... his dark blue eyes were starting to make me a little nervous. The charm was working.... right!?

He seems to notice something but he quickly plays it off and gives me a polite smile as he points back to my chair. I resign myself and sit back into my original chair but when I look over to Xander, I see him glaring at Ambrose with bright amber eyes.

Ambrose chuckles as he leans back in the chair next to me saying "Oh come now, old friend. The meeting will start soon." Xander grits his teeth in anger as he turns back to look at me. I blink at him and play stupid.

I know what these signs are... When his eyes dilated back at the Blue Nile, he saw me as a potential mate and will keep coming until he gets what he wants. Male shifters are stubborn and dangerous but a male Alpha shifter? Haha... I'm screwed.
