13.51% Hero And The Half-Slave Mark / Chapter 5: Vincent.

Chương 5: Vincent.

Mona opened her eyes.

Exhausted by everything that had happened today, she had fallen asleep by the kid's side.

She raised her head and wiped the flowing saliva off the side of her lips.

"Who are you?"

An unfamiliar voice made her open her eyes.

The kid was staring at her. He was wide awake.

Startled by his stare, she said,

"Brother!"

James came in rushing from his room.

When he arrived, the kid had his eyes closed, holding up his hands to his ears. Mona's scream had caused him discomfort.

"What happened?"

Mona looked towards him and said,

"Look, he is awake."

James let out a smack at the back of her head with the book in his hand.

"Keep your voice down."

Mona put her hand on the injury and cast heal.

James approached the boy, who had opened his eyes.

"Who are you?"

James stroked his white hair and said,

"My name is James, and this is my sister Mona."

Mona stared at the boy with intrigue.

"What is your name?"

James asked in a light voice, to not frighten him.

The boy didn't respond. He kept looking towards James.

James asked him again,

"Tell me. Do you remember your name?"

The boy blinked a few times. He then whispered,

"Vi-Vincent."

"Vincent. That is a good name."

Mona was the one to say this while she smiled.

James sat beside him and asked him something else.

"Vincent, do you remember where you come from?"

Vincent looked at him and said,

"No. I can't remember."

He pointed towards one of the remaining few claw marks on his neck and asked,

"Do you know how you got these?"

He closed his eyes to try and remember. But nothing came up.

"No."

James softly patted his head and said,

"Don't worry. You can take your time."

He turned towards Mona and said,

"Mona, bring him something to eat."

She left.

"Vincent, do you know what a hero is?"

Vincent looked at him in puzzlement.

"Do you know what this mark is for?"

He showed the drawing on the book to him. It was the slave mark.

"No."

James smiled. Melida was right.

Mona entered the room with a bowl of hot soup in her hands.

James moved aside, and Mona sat beside Vincent to feed him.

"After you are done with the food, take some rest. Mona, I leave him in your care. Don't freak out again."

Mona pouted, and James left with the book.

"Our luck is starting to turn around."

After closing the door behind him, he went back to his room.

"You must be Rain."

Minerva had changed into a more formal dress before meeting with the Aristocrat.

Rain bowed her head slightly towards the princess in respect.

"It's my honor to be here, your highness."

Minerva smiled in response.

"Please take a seat."

She took a seat and signaled Rain to do the same.

"Rain, I have some questions to ask you. It would be fine if you choose not to answer them."

Rain listened carefully and said,

"Anything for you, your highness."

Minerva looked at Rain and said,

"Do you know about the fate of the Sinclair village?"

Rain looked at the princess in shock. Why was the princess interested in their small village?

"Princess, I have not been in touch with my family for a long time. I am extremely sorry, but I have no clue about the current state of my village."

Leon had sent Rain to study at the Royal Academy of Malen. She had the calling of an Aristocrat, so the admission fee was Zero. The only condition was to give her up to the academy.

Minerva closed her eyes and said,

"It has been destroyed."

Rain didn't believe what the princess was saying. Destroyed?

"W-what do you mean by that?"

"An A-class monster had attacked your village, killing everyone in the process."

"Everyone?"

Minerva didn't answer.

"Father...Lilly..."

She was holding herself from going into a complete breakdown because of the princess.

Minerva waited for Rain to calm down.

Rain wiped her tears, but they kept on coming. She hadn't met her father and her sister for 3 years. Occupied with her own life, she was now regretting each second of the three years that she spent away from her family.

Minerva used a spell.

"Light's embrace."

Rain's thoughts cleared. Her tears vanished, but the sorrow remained.

"Rain, I am really sorry for your loss. I can't say that I know how you feel, but I can find enough of my courage to sympathize with you."

Minerva really meant what she said.

"Your highness, what else do you want from me?"

Her emotions were not in the right place. She wanted to leave.

"Rain, there is one person that managed to escape the attack. Vincent Hunter, the son of Elaine and Cecillia Hunter."

Her eyes widened.

"All of the other bodies were found, except for his. Do you know anyone outside the village that he could turn to had he managed to escape?"

Rain stood up in anger.

"Vincent will never leave my sister to die."

Minerva looked calmly at her and said,

"I am not implying that he deserted the village. He might have managed to escape the village had he gone unnoticed by the monster. We need an accurate account of what actually happened in the village from an eyewitness."

Rain glared at her and said,

"Princess, I do not know of anyone outside the village that the hunter family had connections with. Our family was the one that traded their goods. They had nothing outside of that village."

She bowed to her and said,

"I will be taking my leave now."

She stormed out of the room, and the maids looked at the princess. She had just offended someone from the highest order of royalty, which was punishable by death.

"Don't bother. She is going through a lot of grief."

The princess stood up and left the hall. Nothing of value had come from this meeting.

For her.

-----------------------------------------

"So there was a survivor?"

Nero had a glass of wine in his hand. In front of him was one of the maids that had been present during the meeting.

"Yes, your highness. And the princess seemed adamant about finding him."

Nero took a sip of the wine.

"Isn't the reward that she wanted from the King also connected to a young kid?"

The maid nodded.

"Then this boy must be pretty important."

Nero stood up from his chair and approached the maid.

"Continue to spy on her. If anything happens, come to me."

He took out a pouch of gold coins and handed it to her.

After taking the gold, she politely left.

Nero walked towards an empty canvas.

"Inspiration. I need inspiration."

On a slump, Nero was unable to paint anything.

He clapped his hands twice.

A maid entered the room, and he said,

"Arrange a visit to the underground Colosseum next week. The Blood might help me get over this."
