The sun rose rose outside the window and rays of sunlight streamed through the gaps between the curtains.
David Scamander slept soundly borrowed in between the warm and comfortable blanket. Which made him feel more sleepy and comfortable, encouraging him not to wake up.
Suddenly he felt something ticklish poking his face. Still feeling sleepy he asked,
"Pickett, are you awake already?"
With difficulty, David pulled his hand out of the blanket and held that poking creature in his hand. Bringing it to his eye-level, he saw a stick man like in green colour creature with two small brown dots as eyes and a leaf twig on its head. Pickett's small eyes widened, he raised one of his twig-like arms, and lightly poked David's fingertips while pointing out the window.
"Alright, alright, I'm getting up," David said helplessly, seeing that Pickett was getting annoyed and might bite him.
With a sigh, David slowly extracted himself from the blanket. Shivering as the cold air hit him, he immediately wrapped himself in a thick coat hanging nearby. He wondered when will his room get heating through magic.
After clearing his mind due to surrounding cold, he got dressed, put pickett in his shirt pocket and headed downstairs. Today marked the tenth year since David arrived in this world. He had recently celebrated his tenth birthday or maybe it can be regarded as his twenty-seventh. He has two memories in his mind, one was of him being a student in the third year of high school. In this memory, because he got good results in his mock tests, as a reward his parents have allowed him to watch the newly released movie "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald".
As he just started to settle in to watch the movie then he was struck with sudden sense of dizziness and when he next opened his eyes, he found himself lying in a crib surrounded by rails, looking at a couple, leaning over to comfort him, later he came to know that they are Newt and Tina Scamander.
He has reincarnated into the wizarding world that to as a baby.
Regrettably, Newt is now in his 80s, which means that it is now the Voldemort's turn to be Dark Lord and Grindelwald's time is already over. Making the story plot he remembered from the Fantastic Beasts films mostly useless. To top that, David's memories of the Harry Potter series were foggy. He only remembered some classic moments, along with a few fanfictions and comics he'd seen online, like "Dark Lady Hermione" or "Hogwarts Girl Group."
....
Downstairs, an older woman with head adorned in thin silver hair sat in a rocking chair, reading a newspaper. She was Porpentina Esther "Tina" Scamander or popularly known as Tina Scamander - Newt's wife. By her side, two enchanted knitting needles danced in the air, knitting a sweater. At her feet lay two lazy Kneazles, their spotted fur glowing in the morning sunlight.
"Good morning, Grandma," David greeted her softly.
Hearing his voice, Tina moved the newspaper aside and raised her head, her eyes filled with warmth and smiles: "Good morning, little David. Did you sleep well? Did the last night storm bother you? "
"I slept well, Grandma," David replied.
By this time, the two lazy Kneazles have ran to David's feet and are rubbing his legs affectionately.
"Good morning, Millie and Moller!" David bent over to pick up both creatures.
"You two should really lose some weight," he muttered, struggling under their combined weight.
After his comment, the two Kneazles immediately jumped down from his embrace, running to Tina's side and now glared at David with wide eyes in mock indignation.
"You two lazy Kneazels! Hobby is better, at least it doesn't take much effort to hold him." David muttered while walking and sat down next to Tina. Hobby was the Scamander family's third Kneazle, he spent most of his time wandering outside making him rare sight at home. Pickett also nodded at his comment to express his agreement with David, as he was just about to be crushed under one of the Kneazles.
Tina pulled her wand from her side and waved it toward the kitchen. Plates, cutlery, and food began floating through the air, settling neatly in front of David on table.
"Here you go, dear. A sandwich and milk."
David grabbed the sandwich eagerly, taking a large bite, he asked through a mouthful of food.
"Grandma, where did Grandpa go?"
"He's in his workshop. He brought back another magical creature early this morning. What about locking him in there sometimes," Tina said with a mix of exasperation and amusement. After hearing Tina's words, David's eyes lit up as he quickly finished his breakfast in a few quick bites, downed the milk hastily, and wiped his mouth hurriedly.
"Grandma, I'm done." David quickly wiped his mouth with a tissue, stood up, and glanced involuntarily in the direction of Newt's study.
"Go go, you two guys...", Tina shook her head helplessly, waving her magic wand to command the plate and cutlery to clean themselves and fly back in orignal place. While David dashing towards the workshop beside the hall.
...
Inside the study/workshop there are many books and handwritten notes, most of them filled with knowledge on magical creatures. In the middle of the room is a old brown table strewn with some notes. On the side, there is an big old iron door, Its handle worn out from years of use.
David opened the door and his eyes widened as the room was vast, lined with arc-shaped doors, each leading to different habitats. Animals darted in and out of view, their magical forms glowing in the light. As he descended the steps into Newt's magical workshop, he saw that the workshop walls were covered with tools, charts, pills and sketches of some animals on notes. A medicine cabinet stood in one corner, while sacks of feed were piled in another.
A spirited, sturdy old man is standing before a table, bending over, carefully dissecting an magical creature. David approached quietly, using the "silent steps" method Newt had taught him. He peered over the table to see a leopard-like creature with black fur and spiky burrs around its neck.
"Grandpa, what is this?"
Newt was taken aback by the sudden sound. He nearly dropped the scalpel. Sighing, Newt raised his head and glared at David next to him, his tone a little serious: "Why are you up so early today?"
David reached into his pocket, pulling out Pickett. He gestured toward the Bowtruckle as the culprit. Pickett proudly raised his head as if to show off.
"It may be that he is hungry." Newt smiled immediately, took Pickett in his hand, handing Pickett a few bugs to snack on. David, meanwhile, put on a pair of gloves and poked the creature's body on the table. Its flesh was firm yet tender, and David couldn't help but imagine it in a hot pot. He looked hopefully towards Newt while asking: "Can we eat this?"
"No!" Newt said hurriedly. "This is a poisonous Leopard. Its poison sacs could make you severely ill and feverish!" Then after turning the head of the leopard and pointing to the burrs on the creature's neck. Newt continued: "There is a poisonous sack here. When it feel threatened these release a poisonous mist and poisonous sack will expand, spraying the poison on enemy. The Ministry of Magic had a hard time capturing it—and it wasn't cheap."
As Newt spoke, he took off his gloves and handed the scalpel to David. "Your turn. Time to learn," he said.
David sighed, reluctantly taking the scalpel.
"Always learning!" he thought, rolling his eyes.
Since David could talk, Newt had been bringing him into the workshop to play and teaching him about how to identify the magical creatures.
When David was three, Newt had taught him 108 different ways to feed magical creatures.
Hagrid had always wanted to learn these methods, but Newt refused to teach him much because Hagrid had a habit of trying to crossbreed powerful magical creatures, and Newt strongly disapproved of his reckless experiments.
When David turned six, he was given full responsibility for feeding the more ordinary magical creatures. Newt would leisurely stroll around the workshop, chatting and playing with the magical creatures.
Now, whenever David was around, Newt barely lifted a finger to do any work!
He remembered the last time when Newt had brought home a "dangerous" magical creature, claiming it was inedible. The next day, Tina had cooked it into a perfectly roasted dish—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Even Newt couldn't stop praising how delicious it was!
"Maybe I'll ask Grandma later," David thought, with this in mind, he worked more carefully on the dissection. After all, this might end up on his own dinner table.
