"Hah." Jaune groaned as he opened his eyes. His head ached as he got his bearings. "What happened?" He asked no one in particular.
"The last thing I remember. The evacuation. We were attacked... and then team Rwby fell... and then Penny... and then... I fell." Jaune staggered towards a rock he used as a seat as memories played in his mind.
He stayed like that for minutes, folding his legs and curling into himself.
Suddenly he jerked up. "The void... I fell in. How am I still alive?" He looked around. "And where on remnant am I?"
He froze as he stared into the sky. The sky was a neon yellow, a vastly different color from the usual bright blue he knew his entire life, but that wasn't what kept him frozen. He staggered and struggled to stay on his feet as realized that not only was the moon not shattered, there were six of them.
"This... I'm not in remnant anymore." He grew pale as the realization hit like a ton of bricks. "Where the hell... am I?" A green glow from his right hand caught his attention.
+Hello Green Lantern Jaune Arc. You are currently situated in sector 328 of the guardian frontier. The planet Broon.+
"Huh?" Jaune stared slack jawed at the green ring that he never remembered putting on his fingers that was now talking to him.
"No, wait." Jaune called, halting the ring. "In the void. Right before I passed out, there was a green light... and voices. Was that you?" He asked the ring.
The ring glowed as it replied. +Affirmative. Jaune Arc, you possess unique will. Welcome, to the green lantern corps.+ Jaune was suddenly covered in a similar glow of fire.
"Huh." He flailed before realizing that it was not hurting him. When the light faded, his clothing had changed.
His armor now had a light green sheen over it's white surface, his red scarf turned a dark green his inner clothes was now black while the golden accents on his clothes was now vibrant. In his chest, the green lantern symbol rested in a large golden circle.
"What's this?" He cried. Turning around multiple times he checked the new outfit.
+This, is your green lantern corps uniform. Alterations can be made.+
Jaune's eyes widened as he stared at his new uniform, the green and gold colors gleaming in the neon yellow light of the alien sky. "What does it mean to be a Green Lantern?"
+Your will is your greatest power, Green Lantern Jaune Arc,+ the ring said, as if reading his thoughts. +With this ring, you can create and shape energy to your desire. It is your job to maintain order and deal out justice to the evil still existing in this world.+
+Your first mission is to explore sector 328 and report back to the Guardians,+ the ring.
Jaune's gaze lingered on the ring, his mind reeling with questions. "What do you mean by 'sector 328'?" he asked, his voice laced with skepticism.
+Sector 328 is a designated area of space under the Guardians' protection,+ the ring replied. +Your mission is to patrol this sector, identify potential threats, and neutralize them.+
Jaune snorted, rubbing his temples. "You expect me to just... patrol an entire sector of space? Alone?"
+You will not be alone, Green Lantern Jaune Arc,+ the ring said. +You will have the support of the Guardians and the Green Lantern Corps.+
Jaune raised an eyebrow. "And what about my life back in Remnant? My friends, my family?"
+Your duties as a Green Lantern take precedence,+ the ring stated flatly. +Although details about Remnant, are unknown.+
"Of course. I fell into the void. It was the one thing we were told not to do, so I'm assuming there's no way back." Jaune gave a dead laugh.
+There is always a way. You just have to find it Green lantern Jaune Arc.+
Jaune sighed, feeling the weight of the ring's words. He looked around at the alien landscape, the neon yellow sky, and the six moons hanging like lanterns in the darkness.
"Just call me Jaune." he said finally. "What do I call you?" He looked at the ring.
The ring gave a bright glow. +You can refer to me as Ring.+
.
.
Jaune cocked an eyebrow. "That's it?.. 'Ring?' That's was a let down." He sighed once again.
"Now, how do I use this thing." He wiggled his finger with the ring on it, and then squeezed his hand into a fist thrusting it in one direction.
A large green beam immediately shot from the ring, disintegrating a massive boulder in the distance and continuing on.
Panicked, Jaune pulled his arm up, dragging the beam into the sky and blasting it into the vast expanse of space, in the directions of one of the moons.
The beam finally flickered out. And Jaune gasped as his heart raced. "Ok... so maybe I need to practice."
*Boom*
A thunderous sound drew Jaune's attention to the sky, where he watched one of the moons detonate in a massive ball of fire. His jaw fell as he watched for over ten minutes.
Jaune's eyes widened as he stared at the moon's wreckage, his mind reeling with the implications. "I... I didn't mean to do that," he stammered, feeling a mix of horror and awe.
+This is most peculiar.+ The ring glowed once again.
Jaune snarled. "you think? I just blew up the moon... a moon I guess."
+Current power is at 100 percent.+ The ring continued.
Jaune paused. "Is that... an issue?" He asked confused.
+You just used enough energy, to drain the three green lanterns and there's not a dent in the power reserve. Or rather, it refilled near instantly.+
+Your power is vast, Jaune,+ the Ring said, its tone unchanged. +But control is key. You must learn to harness your energy.+
Jaune took a deep breath, trying to process the Ring's words. He thought back to his training at Beacon Academy, his battles against the forces of darkness. He had always relied on his wits, his courage, and his friends to battle the odds.
"Okay," Jaune said finally, his voice firm. "Teach me."
+First, you must understand the nature of your power,+ the Ring began. +Your will is the source of your energy. Focus your thoughts, and you can create anything.+
Jaune nodded, his eyes locked on the Ring. "Let's start with something simple," he said, a plan forming in his mind. "I want to create a small construct, something to help me get used to this power."
+Very well,+ the Ring replied. +Focus your thoughts, Jaune. Imagine the construct that you desire.+
Jaune closed his eyes, his mind racing with possibilities. He thought of his friends back in Remnant, of Pyrrha's sword, of Ruby's determination.
And then, in a burst of green light, a small sword appeared in front of him.
Jaune's eyes snapped open, a grin spreading across his face. "Whoa," he breathed. "I did it."
He held the sword in his hand, a small pain stinging his chest. "Py- Gah!!!" A yellow beam slammed into him, sending him flying into the side of a canyon.
Multiple beams flashed around the canyon as three streaks of light moved at blinding speeds. One of the light was green, and it was being chased by two yellow lights.
Jaune groaned as he pulled himself from the human sized crack in the wall. "What the hell was that?"
He turned just in time to see another yellow beam rush towards him. With the canyon behind him, there was no room to dodge, so he opened his shield and braced himself.
A loud bang drew Jaune's attention to the green figure who appeared before him that had just deflected the beam.
"My apologies friend." The figure spoke. "I am in dire need of assistance. I saw your light from afar and rushed here as quick as I could. I require your aid to dispatch these yellow lanterns."
Jaune was still frozen in his position of bracing himself. He finally moved. "What's going on here?" He yelled.
The figure constructed a large dome, blocking a salvo of yellow beams aimed at them, before turning around.
Jaune finally got a look at the figure's features and he immediately realized. This person wasn't human.
Looking to be around five foot tall, the figure had grey skin, a slightly larger head with blue hair, and a single eye. He was dressed in what Jaune believed was a green lantern uniform.
"An alien." Jaune whispered.
The lantern's single eye widened. "It appears I have blundered. My apologies, I had no idea you were a new recruit. I have placed you in danger." He turned around and headed back outside the dome. "Stay here, I shall lead them away. You are not yet ready for this level of combat." He flew off, drawing fire from the yellow lights. 'Yellow lanterns.' Jaune thought.
"Hey ring, what are yellow lanterns?" Jaune asked. The ring glowed as it replied. +There are several types of lantern, each pertaining to a different emotion. The yellow draw their power from the emotion of fear.+
A sudden realization dawned on Jaune. "Just like the Grimm." The feeling gave way to rage and Jaune came to a decision. He drew his sword. "Hey ring, they're all flying, can I do that too?"
+Affirmative, with the ring powered by your will, there's nothing you cannot do. The only limit is yourself.+ The ring glowed sharply, almost like it was excited for it's host.
Jaune's eyes narrowed, his grip on the sword tightening. "I'm not going to hide," he growled, his voice carrying across the canyon. "I'm going to take them down."
+Courage is admirable, but caution is wise,+ the Ring said, its tone measured. +You are still learning to control your powers.+
Jaune snarled, his mind racing with the thrill of battle. "I've got this," he said, his voice dripping with confidence.
With a burst of green light, Jaune launched himself into the air, the sword shining brightly in his hand.
___
Culuk was not happy, no, he was worried, very worried. He had come across a group of yellow lanterns, five of them just outside his sector. He immediately sent a message to OA calling for back up.
His call was noticed however, and he immediately had five yellow lanterns trying to kill him. He focused on evasion and stalling protocols, staying just one step ahead although it was all he could do to keep himself alive, he could barely even attack.
Then the group suddenly split, with three of them returning back to where he found them. Perhaps to finish their business there. This left him with two yellow lanterns to deal with and they weren't push overs.
He resisted, but he was finally running low in power, he returned to stalling and evading. Then he saw a green light far into the distance, planets away. A quick check from his ring confirmed that there was a green lantern nearby. Lanterns out in the guardian frontier were few and far between, so Culuk was happy to have one so close.
His happiness was short lived however. The lantern was a newly chosen young child. And he had led the fight to him.
The moment he realized, he drew the yellow lanterns away. There was no need for two green lanterns to die today.
+Ring, at 0.79 percent power.+ His ring glowed. "Damn it... Gah!" A beam of yellow light slammed him into the ground.
He immediately got up and created a dome just in time for a yellow circular saw construct to slam into it spinning. Sparks flew and the other yellow lantern caught up, creating a massive serpentine creature that blasted fire from its mouth at the dome.
"Grrrah" he grunted, cracks forming on the dome. More cracks formed and he went down on one knee. His thoughts went to the lantern he had endangered. 'I'm sorry young lantern, my failure has cost you your life, I pray you survive.'
A sonic boom echoed as a green streak slammed into the second yellow lantern.
____
"Whoa, whoa." Jaune shook a little as he attempted to stabilize himself, this took less than a minute and he was already flying perfectly, fast and agile.
He searched around trying to find signs of the fighting but saw none. "Hey ring, do you know where they are?"
+Affirmative, bringing up directions.+ A green arrow materialized, pointing him in a direction. Jaune wasted no time, launching himself forward.
He streaked across the sky, the planet's landscape a blur as he swerved right, then a turn left, and a full burst of speed straight ahead.
He saw flashing lights of green and yellow in the distance, just beyond the mountains. When he turned, time seemed to slow down as he took in the situation.
The green lantern on his knees with a dome protecting him. The yellow lanterns unleashing attack after attack on him. The dome was cracking and Jaune's decision was made.
Time slowed down even further as Jaune pushed himself faster and faster, a boom echoed and the air seemed to screech as he raised his broken sword towards the lantern in the back.
The lantern was able to notice him on time, creating a flat yellow surface to use as a shield.
Jaune swung his sword and the shield held for less than instant, shattering immediately. The yellow lantern crossed his arms as Crocea mors bit into them sending him flying.
*BOOOOOMMM*
The yellow lantern smashed into a mountain, creating a large ravine as he kept going, smashing into another mountain and coming to a stop in the side of a canyon.
The other turned with shock to face the new arrival. "And who the hell are you?"
A frown adorned Jaune's face, wisps of green energy emanating from his eyes as he floated above the yellow lantern. "The name is Jaune Arc. And I'm a Green Lantern."
Crocea Mors sliced through the air leaving a trail of green energy in its wake.
"Tch." The yellow lantern created a bubble just as an arc of green energy crashed into it sending him crashing to the ground.
Jaune landed right next to the green lantern, who undid his construct with a sigh of relief. "You okay?"
The lantern frowned. "You shouldn't be here." Then he smiled. "But I'm glad you are. Well Jaune Arc, my name is Culuk, Do you think you can buy me time? I need to recharge."
Jaune turned to face the yellow lanterns, the one in the far distance he had slammed into was now pulling himself out of the wreckage, his hands, a smoldering mess. He was large, larger than Hazel, larger than the Hound even. His skin, a stoney black with jagged like teeth protruding from his jaws. A normal person would cower before such a behemoth, however, "I think I can manage." Jaune smirked.
The yellow lantern before him was thin, even thinner than Ren, and had pale green skin with tiny ridges on his head, his yellow eyes gleamed a sickening light as he constructed his weapon. A long yellow chain with maces on both ends.
"In darkest day, and blackest night..." Behind him, Jaune could hear Culuk recite something familiar. "Those words... back in the voi-"
"Raaaaaaaargh." The massive yellow lantern let out a massive roar as yellow light erupted from him, seeping into his mangled arms, until they became grotesque and veiny, now twice their former size.
The smaller yellow lantern charged Jaune, spinning his weapon as he flew.
Jaune poured his green energy into his shield, and a green lantern symbol appeared above the arc family crest (Although Jaune had no idea of this.)
The yellow mace slammed into the white and green shield and shattered instantly. "Wha..." The smaller lantern gasped just as Jaune activated the shield's mechanism, releasing a pulse of purple energy that slammed into the yellow lantern sending him flying past his charging comrade.
The massive yellow lantern, let out a roar as he slammed his massive fist into Jaune's shield sending Jaune flying into a boulder and smashing through it.
The massive yellow lantern then flew towards him, but was hit by a large green missile that flew into another boulder carrying him with it. With a crash the green construct exploded.
Culuk stood across from the massive lantern as he called out. "Sorry for the wait kid." The massive lantern was back on his feet, a scowl on his face.
Jaune smiled as he floated off the ground. "No problem." In the distance, the smaller yellow lantern also floated off the ground, his glare settling on Jaune.
Culuk took notice of this and sent a concerned look to Jaune. "Do you think you can hold him off, while I deal with this one?" He gestured to the massive lantern across from him.
Jaune flashed a smile. "I'll do you one better." He flew up into the sky, the smaller yellow lantern on his trail.
Two lights streaked across the sky, the green light in front, the yellow light behind in pursuit.
Jaune dived down, avoiding a group of missiles that painted the sky yellow in an explosion.
Jaune curved, avoiding a collision with the ground as he flew parallel with it. The yellow lantern used his high vantage point to rain down a barrage of yellow bullets on him.
"Tch." A bullet grazed Jaune, setting him off course as he crashed through rock spire. He could hear laughter from above him as he dodged more bullets, the whizzing sound echoing in his ears as he narrowly avoided each shot, but more of them kept landing disrupting his acceleration.
He turned, aiming his ring at the lantern, and let out a massive beam of green light towards the surprised lantern.
The yellow lantern, however was not only a veteran fighter, but was also particularly agile as he dodged the attack with a sharp spin.
He made to continue the chase but a massive boom drew his attention. He turned to the aftermath of Jaune's attack and swallowed hard as he stared at the smoldering heat being emanated from the long red line of pure destruction that passed through a multitude of mountains.
"Damn, this dude is packing some power. Glad I dodged that." He resumed his chase, increasing the intensity of his attack. He brought his ring closer to his face as he contacted his comrade. "Hey Mark'ro,"
___
The massive yellow lantern took a hit to the jaw and was sent flying into a boulder. He stood back up immediately and glared at the green lantern before him, when his ring glowed and he heard his comrade.
#Hey Mark'ro.# his comrade called.
He created a large four legged creature with horns, sending it in a stampede towards the green lantern before answering. "I'm kinda busy Slad."
The green lantern caught the yellow construct with a construct of a massive green hand, crushing the beast to nothingness.
#This dude's giving me a lot of trouble. He's got a lot of raw power in that ring of his. Gonna need some back up. Finish up quickly and come help me.#
Mark'ro grinned. "Don't worry, I'll bring the fight to you." He flew at blinding speeds into the green lantern's guard landing a punch that sent him careening over a cliff. He knew that wasn't enough to even hurt the lantern but that was fine, he flew into the sky in the direction of the other fight.
___
Jaune found himself once again under suppressive fire as he dodged and weaved. He fired another beam, and this one was easily dodged, just like the last four. "Damnit, he can see my attacks coming a mile away. But any smaller and I can't aim all that well. Any ideas Ring?"
+I suggest creating a construct.+
"A construct?" Jaune yelled as he swerved left, around another massive rock spire.
The rock spire however was reduced to dust the next instant by a barrage of yellow bullets.
Jaune turned and fired another massive beam at the lantern. It was easily avoided once again.
"Hahahahahah." Jaune heard the yellow lantern's laughter above once again. "Give it up rookie, succumb to your fear."
"How the hell am I supposed to get close enough to use a construct?" Jaune yelled at the ring as he passed through a gorge.
+Perhaps, using a construct known for launching projectiles.+
"Projectiles?" Jaune hissed. "You mean a gun? I'm not exactly good with those."
+Then I suggest now is the perfect time to learn. Construct whatever 'gun' you're familiar with.+
"A gun I'm familiar with huh?" Jaune whispered as memories creeped into his mind.
- My sword is named Miló and my shield goes by Akoúo̱.
- Miló means 'speak' and the words Akoúo̱ means 'to listen.'
A green light enveloped Jaune's hand as he formed a construct. In his hand, a flaming green sword.
- Miló has three forms, a javelin, a Xiphos and a semi automatic rifle.
The flames died down, and in his hand was a double edged short sword known as a Xiphos.
- Everyone has a style that they commune with, yours is simply more classic than others.
The sword suddenly transformed, green pieces and parts moving around in absolute unity. In its place a green rifle.
- Wanna give it a try? It's not that hard honestly.
He grasped the rifle, feeling an eerie sense of déjà vu. The weight, the balance, the subtle curves - everything was identical to Pyrrha's beloved weapon. Jaune's eyes stung as he remembered the countless times Pyrrha had wielded this very rifle, her skill and precision unmatched on the battlefield.
"Pyrrha..." Jaune whispered, his voice barely audible over the din of battle. He felt a lump form in his throat as he raised the rifle, his finger instinctively finding the trigger.
With a deep breath, Jaune began to fire. The green projectiles tore through the air, carrying with them a symphony of vengeance and remembrance.
The green projectiles tore through the air, each one homing in on the yellow lantern with unerring accuracy.
"Ha! Take that, you yellow menace! This is our will!!!" Jaune shouted, firing another burst as he dodged and weaved through the rocky terrain. The yellow lantern retaliated with a barrage of bullets, but Jaune was ready, using his agility and the rifle's accuracy to evade and counterattack.
"Whoa, this is actually kind of fun!" Jaune exclaimed, grinning maniacally as he fired another burst. The yellow lantern's laughter grew more frantic, its fear-inducing powers faltering against Jaune's newfound confidence.
The two flew in circles around each other,. firing shots after shots and dodging at the same time.
The yellow lantern roared and created a multitude of weapons. From blasters to grenade launchers, to missiles. Multiple machinations made out of yellow energy covered the sky.
Seeing his opponent get desperate, Jaune scoffed. "All I need is one." He whispered, and Miló vanished and in it's place was the weapon of his very first friend. Crescent Rose. A high caliber bolt action sniper rifle.
The yellow lantern roared once again as he fired. The very sky was covered in yellow projectiles of all sizes.
Jaune slowed to a stop mid-air, and a green platform appeared under his feet. He took aim with Crescent Rose. "Thanks Ruby." He pulled the trigger.
A sonic boom echoed as the shockwave from crescent rose's bullet sent each of the yellow projectiles off course, painting the sky behind Jaune yellow in an explosion.
Meanwhile, the yellow lantern had no time to even think as Jaune's shot landed square in his chest. "Gah" Blood burst out of his mouth as he was sent to the ground at sonic speed, crashing into a ravine.
Jaune sighed in relief. "Finally, let's end this." He charged at the down lantern when he was immediately tackled by the larger yellow lantern. They both crashed through a mountain and into the ground, before stopping inside a cave. The cave was big but not large, enough for flying but they couldn't move freely anymore.
The Yellow Lantern sneered, his eyes narrowing as he sized up Jaune. "Taken out by a rookie," he muttered, clenching his fists, his yellow ring glowing with a menacing light. "This won't take long."
Jaune hovered in the air, his mind racing. He was no stranger to close combat, it was 'previously' his only skill set, but the lantern before him looked like he would rip him apart.
The Yellow Lantern lunged forward, a blur of speed and power. His massive fist glowed with a sickly yellow hue as he swung it toward Jaune. The air crackled with energy, and Jaune barely had time to react. He raised his broken sword, parrying the blow just inches from his face. The impact sent shockwaves through his arm.
Jaune countered, pivoting on his heel to deliver a powerful kick aimed at the Yellow Lantern's midsection. The Yellow Lantern twisted in mid-air, dodging the attack with ease. He responded with a flurry of punches, each one aimed at Jaune's head.
Jaune ducked and weaved, feeling the rush of air as each blow narrowly missed its mark.
As the Yellow Lantern swung again, Jaune spun to the side, using his momentum to slam the hilt of his sword into his opponent's ribs. A technique he learned from Pyrrha. The Yellow Lantern grunted, staggering back, surprise etched on his face. Jaune pressed the advantage, slashing with his sword, green energy trailing behind each arc.
The Yellow Lantern backpedaled, raising a yellow shield construct to block the strikes. But Jaune was relentless, each swing faster and stronger than the last.
Suddenly, the Yellow Lantern roared, unleashing a torrent of yellow constructs. Snarling beasts, chains, and spiked clubs rained down on Jaune from all sides. Jaune's heart pounded in his chest as he fought to keep up, his sword a blur as he deflected and destroyed each construct in turn.
But the assault was unrelenting. A massive construct in the shape of a dragon lunged at him, its jaws wide open. Jaune dodged to the side, feeling the heat of its breath as it passed. He decided he had to end this, and fast.
Drawing on every ounce of willpower, Jaune thrust his hand forward, imagining a powerful construct to match the dragon. A girl came to mind, and the air shimmered, a giant green knight materialized, its armor gleaming, its sword as large as the beast itself.
The yellow lantern stumbled for a moment in shock as he watched the knight stand from its kneeling position.
The green knight charged forward, clashing with the yellow dragon in a titanic struggle. As the two constructs fought, Jaune took advantage of the distraction. He closed the distance between himself and the Yellow Lantern, his sword raised high.
The Yellow Lantern barely had time to react. Jaune swung his sword with all his might, the blade slicing through the yellow shield like paper. The Yellow Lantern staggered, fear flickering in his eyes as he realized he was outmatched.
In one swift motion, Jaune sheathed his sword. He closed in, his fists glowing with green power, and delivered a rapid series of punches. Each strike was precise, each blow landing with a bone-rattling impact. An old crow coming to mind and he smirked.
The Yellow Lantern tried to defend himself, but Jaune was too fast, too determined. He dodged a wild swing, ducked under another, and then drove his knee into the Yellow Lantern's stomach. The force of the blow sent him sprawling backward, gasping for air.
Before the Yellow Lantern could recover, Jaune pressed his advantage. He grabbed his opponent by the collar, his eyes blazing with a fierce light. "It's over," he said, his voice steady and resolute.
He slammed him into the ground and smashed him further in with the surface of his shield, holding him in place. The Yellow Lantern struggled, but it was no use.
Jaune poured as much of his will as he could into his shield, the green lantern symbol shining so bright it scalded the yellow lantern. Then Jaune activated the shield's mechanism, and the planet shook as the shield released a green pulse of energy that smashed the lantern into the ground.
The cave began to collapse and using a large green hand, Jaune pulled out the lantern from the massive shield shaped hole in the floor before flying to safety.
As he flew out he saw Culuk flying towards him with a bound person. "Ah" Jaune noticed, it was the yellow lantern but without his yellow suit.
"Well done friend. You handled yourself much better than I expected." The alien smiled as he removed the yellow ring from the large lantern that Jaune carried. The large lantern had his suit disappear immediately.
Jaune nodded, a small smile tugging at his lips. He could hardly believe it himself. He had fought and won, using the power of his will to protect those in need.
"Thank you," Culuk said, his voice filled with gratitude. "You saved my life."
Jaune shook his head, humility in his eyes. "It's nothing really," he replied. "I guess that's what it means to be a Green Lantern."
"You're exactly right, Jaune Arc. Come on." Culuk flew up into the sky.
"Uhm where are we going?" Jaune flew after him, speeding into the sky as well.
"We need to hand them over to a guardian outpost, from there they'll be taken to OA to destroy their rings." Culuk answered as they left the planet's atmosphere.
Jaune slowed down as he saw the black of space, looking back he saw the outline of the planet he had been in, before flying off after Culuk.
As they soared through the vast expanse of space, Jaune couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the stars twinkling like diamonds against the blackness. He glanced over at Culuk, who was flying steadily beside him.
"Hey, Culuk?" Jaune called out.
"Yes, Jaune?" Culuk replied, his voice carrying through the comms system in their suits.
"What's OA?" Jaune asked, curiosity getting the better of him.
