Instead of the familiar scents of dried jasmine flowers, melted butter and cinnamon sugar, a musty smell greeted Lucas once he opened the front door.
Coughing a few times, Lucas quickly covered his mouth. He didn't want to inhale more of the dust lingering in the air.
"Mr. Liu, are you okay?" asked Mrs. Feng. She used a tissue to cover her mouth and nose. Her voice was slightly muffled.
"W-wait, Mrs. Feng, cough! I'll air out... the room first, cough!"
Lucas hurriedly left the entryway. His footsteps echoed inside the hallway. Without looking at Mr. and Mrs. Feng who tailed him from behind, he opened every window in the living room.
Bright sunlight pierced into the room, chasing the darkness away. Tiny dust particles were carried by the air, creating a hazy glow against the sunshine.
