13.04% Get Him Off Me, Fate! / Chapter 20: She Dumped Him

Chương 20: She Dumped Him

As expected, after that encounter with Red in the hallway, Damon skipped the rest of school that day. What was the point of going to high school when he could effortlessly solve any problem thrown his way with his eyes closed? Yeah, he was that intelligent. A Genius to be exact.

Damon was very smart unlike what people thought of him, he just preferred to laze around and have fun. Fun? That was the only comfort he could give himself till his time on earth ran out.

For the rest of the day, he wandered around the city aimlessly from café to karaoke to Casinos, and still, yet, he was discontented. When he finally returned home, it was late and his parents were not home. As usual.

His father left for a conference abroad while his great mother -note the sarcasm- was stuck in some meeting with the company's executives and the house was as silent as it could ever get. So he went to bed downcast, with nightmares of his brother tormenting his dreams.

The next day, Damon headed to school even though that was the last place he wanted to be. But then when boredom set in, he found himself going to that hell hole.

Instead of the class, Damon made a home for himself in the library, and yes, his special sitting area reminded him of her - as much as he loathed it. This was the spot where Nessa went red in the face after he teased her of having feelings for Luke. Perhaps, he was the one who jinxed his luck in the first place - who knew Red had feelings for that man whore

Looking back now, how did he even end up liking and depending on her so much to entrust her with the duty of keeping him happy. She was just like a wildfire brightening his life until now; he was burned.  Now, there was a strange hollow in his heart which he couldn't fill up.

Damon couldn't understand what was wrong with him, so he left the library to the field to blow off some steam. He needed to think right now.

"Who successfully broke your heart?"

A familiar voice spoke from behind and Damon turned around to meet Carlos, his best friend.

"Yo," greeted Carlos while Damon smiled.

"Long time no see," They shook hands, exchanging pleasantries.

Carlos came from a prominent family, who had a long line of history with the surviving members of the Claire clan. In one word, Carlos' father and Damon's father were friends and so were they. Aside from the fact they were childhood friends, both were birds of the same feather.

Carlos had left the city to have a surgical oppression abroad. He developed complications from his previous kidney operation and needed another surgery to be corrected, hence his absence from school. Damon's heart ached for Carlos but there was nothing he could do - it was not like he could take away his pain.

"Let me guess, all of the girls must have been exhausted, which is no wonder you decided to return home," Damon teased him and Carlo's laughter confirmed it all, "I knew it! That was the reason you had a quick recovery"

Well, Carlos here was another notable playboy. If Luke was a casanova then, Carlos was the king of all players.

He could never take his eyes off girls except those in the forbidden territory-  girls with boyfriends already. Everyone at school knew that his player disease was a chronic one with no cure and most of the good girls who had tried changing him, left frustrated.

"Dude, what are you doing here?" Carlos asked, glancing around the lonely and quiet field. No one was here, Damon had chased everyone out earlier to get a quiet time plus the fact girls' heavily makeup faces and gossips were irritating him.

"Just needed to be alone" Damon drawled, "Someone got me on a bad mood"

Carlos nodded his head in understanding and patted him on the back,  "It doesn't matter anymore Damon, I'm back here. I don't get tagged 'fun' for nothing," True to his words, Carlo had a wild and playful personality.

He was still relating his plans to Damon who felt another presence and glanced over his shoulder to see an angry blonde coming in their direction. But that was not the main person that held his gaze.

There, on the bleacher was Red, working on some homework and looking sullen. Damon wondered how she got here without him noticing and was she pretending not to have seen him.

"Hey babe" Carlos welcomed one of his many girlfriends with open arms oblivious to the deadly aura the girl was emitting. Damon didn't butt in, this issue was not his to deal with.

The blonde girl gave Carlos a fake smile, pretending to walk into his arms only for a sharp slap to make its presence known on his cheek.

Oh, that was expected. Damon wasn't even surprised anymore, this wasn't the first time such a thing happened.

"You're an asshole" the girl spat in anger.

"I deserve that" Carlos concurred, feeling his stinging cheek while Damon stayed a few meters away just to ensure the slap didn't accidentally land on him.

"But babe-" Carlos tried reaching out for her when another slap on his other cheek silenced him

"Deserve that too," he murmured, rubbing both cheeks this time. It was quite funny, the way he kept records of the crimes he committed.

"How could you?" Cried the girl who blessed Carlos with her slaps.

"Babe, I -" Carlos was once again cut short with another slap from her.

"Now, I didn't deserve that," he said aloud this time

"Oh really?" Her brows arched, "you didn't remember cheating on me with that gothic goat before fleeing abroad?" She reminded him, the words rolling off her tongue with anger

Carlos frowned for a while before exclaiming "That's possible!" before breathing out, "Even though I can't remember "

The girl simply kicked him in the leg and left, leaving Carlos hopping around in pain and yelling some colorful words.

The instant he recovered from the pain, Carlos threw himself on the ground, stretching his body out on the mowed lawn as they made small talks until he brought out his phone and discovered a piece of interesting news on the school's gossip forum.

"It seems Mommy's boy got a girlfriend," he disclosed.

Damon stiffened. The only person they had tagged as Mommy's boy was Luke since he tended to chicken out of difficult situations. His mind shifted instantly to Nessa.

Did red kick him away to get together with that asshole? To think he actually warned off her bullies only to receive this in return.

Damon pretended to be oblivious and asked his friend," He's dating Red?" He didn't dare steal a peek at Red working on her project meters away from him. Inwardly, Damon was seething furious. After everything he had done for her, he got treated this way?

"Red?" Carlos rubbed his jaw thoughtfully, "Is that her name? She looks good, "

Damon wanted to clarify her name but he was exasperated instead when he saw his friend checking out her picture on the forum, was Carlos planning on getting her too?

"You know what? Let's get the hell out of here?" He said, beginning to stride away.

"Hey, wait up" Carlos called, jogging up to Damon and draped his arm lazily on his shoulder.

Red.

His eyes unexpectedly locked with hers just as they were walking out. She was glancing at him with an odd emotion in those orbs. But Damon tore his gaze away. Whatever she wants with him now, it was too late. Damon Clair doesn't give second chances, that is how far his pride goes.
