"Can someone explain to me what the hell is going on?"
Okafor was in a meeting due to recent deaths caused by an unknown disease that was only affecting the high command of the CRM.
Elizabeth had received reports of numerous deaths among her top commanders, so she gathered all her most loyal men to ask how all this was happening.
"The situation in Saskatchewan is not calm enough for unnecessary meetings. If our line of defense breaks, it will create a collapse in all the communities that have joined to stop the walkers from Canada."
Okafor said nothing; the spies in the CRM led by Daniel Salazar were doing their job very well, so there were no clear suspicions about a target yet.
They just had to wait; when everyone was dead, he would take power and hand it over to a man who truly understood how to survive in a world like this.
…
Detroit, border with Canada.
The scorching midday sun was exorbitant. On the dirty roads of this place, a group of young people was heading towards the College of Computing, very close to the border base led by Negan.
The area where the base was expanding from the university was quite good with useful structures. There were not only universities but also many other institutes where the departments and facilities were complete.
Not only did they have most of the necessities, but they could also expand their land as long as the population was large enough. They were also not lacking in land for cultivation; if they advanced to the surroundings, they would soon take directions towards Ohio, which was a suitable space for planting crops.
The space around Michigan was good, as it was surrounded by trees, so as long as the surroundings were walled off with wire fences, work could begin immediately in that place.
There were also facilities like the MRDC, very close to the Detroit University of Technology, where they could work with new technology and had many facilities where they could create any kind of thing.
This area was more than good to start expanding safely; they were not only surrounded by good buildings, but these were not large buildings without utility and a protected area where they could stop the walkers. These buildings could be used to meet all of Dominic's future needs.
The group walking through the place where the base now led by Negan was established walked with doubtful eyes while avoiding many walkers that still remained on the large streets.
They seemed to be half-scared and ran towards some cars, hiding from the walkers' sight, looking with horror at the tall figures that suddenly appeared.
"Where are we now?" One of the figures in the group held a map, while someone brushed the long blonde hair behind him, gesticulating with his fingers from time to time and asking the man next to him nervously.
"Are we still far from our institute? Will it take us a little longer to get there with those figures in the street?" Seeing the woman holding the map and looking at it for a long time, the man covered his forehead speechlessly and explained helplessly.
"Everything follows Licey's bitch speculation; how could we leave that shelter we were in?" One of the girls asked while holding a metal rod in her hands.
"Don't talk nonsense; we didn't have more food in that place anyway. We all know it was only a matter of time before we needed to move from that shelter; don't blame someone else in the group." The man sternly rebuked the disputes that were arising in the group.
Everyone knew this was not the time and place to argue; right now, any noise caused by mistake could alert those walkers, and things would end up getting unexpectedly complicated.
After saying that, the man took a long bat with nails and said, "Anyway, the only thing we can do now is keep moving, don't get distracted."
The blonde woman looked at the man's appearance, pursed her lips indifferently, took her weapon, and quickly followed him while looking at the others. Everyone nodded and began to walk through the vehicles, ignoring the walkers beside them.
Looking at the endless road ahead, the blonde woman sighed, "We've been out for so long, and we don't know if there are military personnel where we're heading to a safe haven."
The sun shone on the face of a person who looked at the wounded bodies of some soldiers and the survivors kneeling on the ground. At that moment, Negan was holding a golf club while looking at the survivors; the location was a bit far from the base, but Negan ordered that they not be moved from this place.
"The world sure has changed; I thought when Dominic gave you that speech about the future, you would understand what needed to be done."
Everyone heard Negan's cold words, and they all fixed their gaze on that group of survivors who had attacked them just a few hours ago.
"Sir, we were ambushed by the enemy; I apologize for not observing the terrain well!"
Hearing what the captain of this squad said behind him, Negan closed his eyes and then said, "What bothers me is not that you were ambushed; what bothers me is that these idiots are still alive! Why do we need so many if only one is needed to know where the hell they come from?"
"I'm sorry, sir, it won't happen again!"
When Negan heard those few words, he was silent for a moment. Originally, he thought there wouldn't be civilians brave enough to attack the military, but it seems he was wrong. So now, no group should treat survivors kindly before being clear if they are civilians or enemies.
Firstly, it was about the soldiers' safety, and secondly, that they be prepared to eliminate any moving threat. This time there were twelve survivors, of which five were killed, and the rest ended up surrendering.
Negan knew what Dominic would do in his situation, so making a decision, he took his special bat and raised it before hitting the head of one of the subdued ones.
Clack!
The strong blow to the neck knocked him unconscious; the blood splattered, and immediately all those kneeling on the ground trembled with fear. No one ever thought the military would do something like this; there was no one who could do this so naturally even today.
"I want you to tell me how many of you there are in total!"
After saying that, Negan raised the golf club again and attacked another survivor in the neck without any compassion. The blood stained his clothes and golf club; the look of the soldiers behind him was silent, and no one dared to say anything.
"How dare you attack the military when our only purpose is to save you? Today, you pieces of shit attacked and harmed many soldiers who fight day by day to save the society that is in decay."
Negan turned to the captain of squad A-1 and said, "I believe I heard the General tell you that the world had changed and now walkers are not our only enemies?"
"We heard it, sir!" All the soldiers shouted in unison with a powerful voice.
"I think I understood that we must protect the people of our refuge before considering saving others, am I wrong in that?" Negan asked with an expression full of brutality.
"You are not, sir!"
After hearing those words, Negan took out a gun and shot all those who had attacked his group in the head without mercy. There was no mercy on Negan's face; right now, he knew he had to educate all the soldiers to understand to what extent the world had changed.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
The shots rang out on the lonely street, and all the soldiers watched in horror as these people were killed by their leader, then they understood that if they hadn't had enough equipment, they would have died in their place.
"Squad leader, can you take charge?" Negan pointed to the only survivor, indicating what he should do next.
With a military salute, the captain of squad A-1 said, "I will extract every detail, even the birth year of their neighbors, sir."
"Yes, that's good."
When everything was over, Negan walked back to the car before hearing a warning shout: "Survivors ahead!"
The captain looked at his men and shouted, "You know what to do, they are our enemies until proven otherwise!"
"Yes, sir!"
