He Lanjin stood in the distance, watching Qiao Hanye. He was dazzling; she could not keep her eyes off him.
2"Student He, how are you?" The academy instructor said as he came over, followed by some academy graduates and students.
2Their arrival brought He Lanjin back to her senses. She noticed an injured member of the group and quickly helped him sit down. "I'm fine," she said as she turned back to the group. "Are you guys okay?"
2"Some of our students were sent back to Jiang City with serious injuries," the instructor said. "We need a medical team. We hope that you can join us." He Lanjin did not hesitate; she immediately answered in the affirmative.
2He Lanjin knew that joining the medical team was a great opportunity to learn more medical knowledge while saving people. For her, there was no end to learning. She always did what she could to become a better version of herself.
2For three whole days, He Lanjin witnessed hell on earth. The earthquake caused many people to be separated from their families. Some young people were crippled for life, and many were killed.
2What was worst was that all this was happening before her eyes, and she could not do anything.
2"My son... give me back my son..." An old woman suddenly pounced on He Lanjin, grabbing both her hands.
2The skin on He Lanjin's arm got torn; she grunted in pain, but did not push the old woman away. He Lanjin watched as the old woman with the lifeless eyes cried and fell to the ground in front of her. He Lanjin's heart broke to see the old woman's anguish.
2"Your son would not like to see you like this," He Lanjin said softly, offering the old woman some words of comfort. "You have to live well for him."
2The old woman fell into He Lanjin's arms as He Lanjin helped her up. The old woman sobbed loudly, as if the sky had fallen.
2As He Lanjin was comforting the old woman, she thought she saw someone familiar. She wanted to see if her eyes were deceiving her, but the person quickly disappeared.
2"He Ruoxue?" He Lanjin was puzzled. He Ruoxue was afraid of dying and would never come to a place like this. Were He Lanjin's eyes playing tricks on her?
2He Lanjin snapped back to her senses when she saw the old woman dragging a cart that carried the body of her dead son. The old woman's back was bent like a camel's. Instead of helping the old woman, He Lanjin just stood there, entranced by the old woman's strength.
2Her mind preoccupied with thoughts of the casualties, He Lanjin found herself in her room, not even knowing how she got there. As she sat down, she heard the sound of running water.
2"Who are you? Why are you in this room?" He Lanjin asked as she got up from her chair. She took few steps toward the bathroom and saw the door open.
2Qiao Hanye had been gone for three whole days, so He Lanjin naturally thought that he had gone back home to Scenery Garden. She did not expect to find him in her room now that the earthquakes and aftershocks had passed.
2"Doctor He, I feel a little uncomfortable," Qiao Hanye said as he climbed into bed and lay down on his back. "Come and check my body to see if I'm sick."
2"What's wrong with you?" He Lanjin asked, deeply suspicious. Qiao Hanye did not look as if something was ailing him.
2This person had a belly full of mischief. How could she believe what he was saying?
2Qiao Hanye took He Lanjin's hand and pressed it against his chest. He stared at her with his deep black eyes. "My chest hurts."
2"Huh?" He Lanjin was puzzled. "You must have a heart disease."
2Qiao Hanye's face looked pained; He Lanjin got slightly worried.
2Without a word, Qiao Hanye pulled He Lanjin into his embrace. His lips pressed against her neck as he said, "Aside from heart disease, I have other problems. Doctor He, you have to check me properly."
2"What other problems?" He Lanjin asked as she resisted the thought of killing Qiao Hanye.
2And just like that, it dawned on He Lanjin that this man had deliberately come to tease her, after learning that she had gained some knowledge from the medical mission.
2Qiao Hanye's hoarse voice was tinged with lust as he said, "There are problems all over my body."
2Qiao Hanye put He Lanjin's hand to his lips down to his chest and to his abdomen. "This... this... and this," Qiao Hanye said in a low voice, "From head to toe, my body misses you very much. I think I'm in the terminal stage of my illness."
2He Lanjin huffed. "Qiao Hanye, you're being outrageous." She looked seriously at the man's peerlessly handsome face. He was flirting with her all right, but how could he keep such a straight face?
2He Lanjin started to laugh but instead of laughing with her, Qiao Hanye put his arm around her waist and pulled her into his embrace. He pinned her on the bed with his body, pressing down on top of her. He Lanjin could feel Qiao Hanye's hot breath on her face as her eyes met his.
