Chương 45: Unrequited Love
Seeing the handsome man gawking at his woman, Su Kai wanted to body slam the guy. Technically Maxim was not gawking but he was definitely not hiding his feelings. The tenderness and impartiality he conveys towards Liu Wei is too obvious for Su Kai to tolerate. Who the hell was this man?
"May I ask what the name of your investment company is and where it is located?" he asked, trying to divert the mans attention away from Liu Wei. But to his dismay it didn't work! This pompous man did not even bother to look at him at all. He has never met such an arrogant human being in his life. He's so used to business men trying to pander and grovel around him, so he expected the same from this casanova wanabe.
"I only invest in things I like, these are all personal investments of course. I don't work for anyone" Maxim finally answered Su Kai but only glanced in his direction for a minute before his gaze once again returned to Liu Wei.
"Shall we talk business?" He once again urged Liu Wei.
She was about to decline when Tang Ning appeared out of nowhere and grabs onto Su Kai's arm like she belonged there. As if it was something she always did, and perhaps she did before but for some reason it really riled Liu Wei's nerves seeing her man all cozy with another woman. Couldn't he have the courtesy of moving away from her?
Liu Wei didn't want to see this display of affection so she gave Maxim her most radiant smile and said "sure lead the way"
Su Kai was not happy to see her go and didn't really understand that he had made his woman jealous. He finally extricated his arm from Tang Nings hold so he could give chase to the two people who were at this moment slowly making their way out towards the terrace.
Just as he was about to walk away, Tang Ning asked him about his grandfather.
"How is Grandfather? I hope he isn't too shaken up because of that incident" She said worry written all over her face.
Su Kai realized that he was being rude for not asking her if she was alright, after all the assassination attempt was directed at him but she and her family were also there that day and could have ended up as collateral damage. The least he could do was ask how she was. His secretary had already sent out gifts to the family worth millions to apologize for the incident.
"He is doing well, just shocked but nothing too serious. How are you and your family?"
She beamed when he showed concern over her well being. He still cares for me! she told herself that she needed to put more effort in winning him over.
"Don't worry about us, we are made of stronger stuff. We won't crumble after one scare, did you ever figure out who was behind it all?"
"No, but I will." He didn't want anyone to know right now that there were internal stife going on within his family. Most wealthy families have their fair share of friendly competition but greed, jealousy and envy can really make people do things against their better judgement.
"Hi old man!" Alex and Jin came strolling behind them with a glass of liquor on their hands. "It's been ages since all three of us got roaring drunk!" he said with a sloppy grin on his face.
"It's noon, do try not to get shit faced in broad daylight!" Su Kai says in a bored tone.
Alex was looking at Tang Ning with longing, it's plain to see that he cared deeply for her. Unfortunately for him she never once looked his way. Her eyes were only ever for Su Kai and even though it hurt, he kept his feelings bottled up inside. So, he put on his charming smile and tried to personify his devil maycare attitude.
Unbeknownst to Alex, Su Kai had always known his true feelings for Tang Ning that was one of the reasons why he saw Tang Ning as nothing more than a good friend. It was during their time in college that Alex got roaring drunk and spilled his feelings to Su Kai. He complained about how Tang Ning would always ask him about Su Kai's whereabouts and anything pertinent about his likes and dislikes. It was torture for Alex but he never complained and resigned himself to a one sided Love. Maybe one day he will get over her, but today is not that day.
"Tang Ning do you want me to drive you back to the hotel to change? The dinner tonight will be over the top, I hear. Do you have your evening wear? If not I can accompany you to the mall and get one?" Alex asked her, hoping for some alone time.
"No, thank you I am will prepared for this evening." Her mind was on the plan to ruin Liu Wei's reputation, she needed this to be a success. She only had one shot, especially if she wanted to stay anonymous. She had gone through many back channels in order to not leave any cookie crumbs her way.
Meanwhile in the terrace the two gorgeous people were having a staring contest.
"I know I'm quite handsome my queen, but if you stare at me like that people will talk." He teasingly says.
Liu Wei's mouth opened and closed, did this space man just utter a joke?
"What are you doing here?"
"Of course, same as you to mingle and do business. What else do people do at these gatherings?"
Liu Wei of course did not believe his excuse. He's probably here to monitor her.
"Couldn't you give me some time to think before appearing? I need time to digest all the things you've told me." she complained. "By the way, I can now move objects just by moving my hands!!!"
"Of course, in due time you can move anything you want just by thought. You are the only one who was able to do this. I'm also here to watch over you should you end up in harms way" He said with a serious look on his face.
He knew that coming to her would have the potential of driving her away, but he finally found her and all the feelings came back from his time in Eris and how much he had missed her. He wanted to be near her and guard her from any harm. He was being selfish he knew it, but he couldn't help himself.
"Do you need an escort to tonight's dinner? Also, by having me around it would benefit you greatly. Just think of me as a walking, talking data base. I could easily answer any questions that you may have in regards to your new abilities or Eris." He said smiling at her.
Well he did make sense if one were to put it that way. she did have many questions that she couldn't ask just anyone about.
"Fine, you can stay" She says to him.
