Chương 40: Greed
The following day was filled with cries of anguish as the brothers were hit with news after news of their world crumbling.
Su Chao and Su Bao were both in the living room visibly upset by what they had learned this morning. All of the managers in charge of the businesses have been calling and telling the brothers that they either had to shut down because of health risks or negligence.
It may have been salvageable if it was one business but between the both of them they have 10 small side businesses ranging from salons to restaurants that have been targeted by someone.
"Who the hell is doing this? Su Bao, have you offended anyone that we shouldn't have?" Su Chao was wracking his brains and rummaging through his memories to see if he's offended any of the other powerful families in the cities. But try as he might, he just could not think of any situation at all.
He could only hope that his younger brother was not that dumb to do something untoward and vulgar to anyone who had connections.
"No, I've been at home or at work these past few months. I've rarely attended any parties so I couldn't have said or done something to anyone. Unless.. Do you think it could be our nephew? he's the only one we've messed with!!"
Su Bao was a little worried that they had been discovered.
"It's not possible!!" Su Chao said shaking his head and walking franticly to the side bar to grab a drink.
"We were very careful and we didn't even use our own men. We hired outsiders to do this, it would never come back to us."
Just then, they hear footsteps and see their father coming towards them with a look of anger written all over his face.
"Father, I thought you went out? what are you doing home?"
"I turned back when I heard the news. I came straight away to see if you needed any help with getting this resolved when low and behold, I hear something that I shouldn't have. So you ungrateful sons were the one's who was trying to get my grandson killed?!"
Grandfather Su was so livid that he was visibly shaking
"Father, calm down. It's not what you think! We were just trying to teach him a small lesson" Su Chao said to appease his father.
"So sending a few assassins' was teaching him a lesson? What would he learn when he's dead? On top of that, I was also there. Were you also teaching me a lesson?!"
Both sons were down on their knees with their heads down.
"No father, we didn't know you were going to be with him that day. We just told those people to scare Su Kai just a little so he would resign from his position. We never realized that they would take things too far" Su Bao said.
"What makes you think Su Kai would resign? I'm the one who appointed that position to him and he will continue to be the head of the company for as long as he chooses. If you two were more competent, then you would have been sitting on that seat instead of him. But all you do is envy him which over the years have turned into jealousy and hatred. I have tried to turn a blind eye towards your negativity but this despicable deed is too much!"
"I am sending both of you out of the country. You do not even realize what devil you have stirred in your greed to take over his seat. How do you suppose we became the number one family in the world? He is far more ruthless than I'll ever be, if you don't shape up I won't be able to protect your measly lives! If ever I hear that you so much as plan to do anything like this ever again I will disown the both of you and erase you from the family registry!"
The two were instantly scared, but dumb as they were, didn't really think too much of the extent that the warning was given. They could never reconcile themselves to think that their nephew was evil. Cold perhaps but never evil. This kind of thinking would be their downfall in the weeks to come.
Instead of heeding their father's words they were both still upset over the amount of money they had lost that day.
Su Chao pulls out his phone and dials Su Kai's number.
"Yes? Uncle Chao what can I help you with?" Su Kai drawls.
"Were you the one who ruined your uncle and me?" he says. He was so upset at his nephew that he didn't even care that he was being accusatory rather than doing his homework and figuring out who really was behind the incident.
"I will answer that after you answer mine. Were you the one who tried to kill me? and in the process almost killing my woman?!" he says calmly.
Even though Su Kai said it in a low and even tone. The connotations were there, Su Chao was flustered from that question and he got visibly scared that he dropped the phone.
Su Bao picked it up "What do you mean? we would never! Is this why you sabotaged our business because of some rumor mill?! We are your uncles, we are family!"
Shifting the blame towards Su Kai was the Su brothers specialty. They really had no shame and over the years Su Kai allowed it to happen because they were after all his fathers brothers. But they dare to hurt his woman? She was his bottom line and he would trample anyone who dares to lay a hand on her. They should be thanking him that he only went for their money, otherwise Su Kai would have had 2 funerals to attend.
"Save the dramatics Uncle, I have evidence and a confession. Stay in your corner and be good little boys, do not meddle in my affairs. This is my last warning to you both, don't blame me for being rude the next time."
The call ended with Su Kai hanging up on his second uncle.
"The impudence of this boy! how dare he. He says he will teach us a lesson? The nerve! Just wait and see what we do to your woman you nasty piece of vermin."
These two were aptly warned and yet they were happy to dig their own graves so soon after their set back.
