Chương 169: 167: A Company of Fools: Sho’lajah’s Justice IV
The elevator came to a quick at the fifth level and bottom of the facility. I held the mana-lock at the ready, aimed down the northern hallway towards the thrads that were still scratching and clawing at the blast door blocking them entry into the rest of the floor. They were secure for now but I needed to hurry and get KC.
I turned and ran down the southern hallway to the nursery that they were keeping KC in. My footsteps echoed down the hallway as I ran towards the nursery door. The guards inside that were protecting KC could hear me coming and already had their guns raised towards the door.
I channeled mana into the star satellite enchanted ring and cast an axiom spell sigil. Four small glowing orbs form around me and orbited my body like tiny moons. I picked up speed and dashed towards the door while channeling volt attribute mana throughout my body. In a burst of speed I shoulder checked the door, forcing the lock to give way and send the door flying back into the room. The guards and KC both hit the floor and the door managed to miss all of them.
I skidded to a stop and aimed the mana-lock at the closest of the guards and pulled the trigger. A fire bullet fired from the barrel and struck the guard. His body was soon engulfed in bright blue flames that devoured his body leaving nothing but ash in its place.
"Isaac!" One of the guards screamed then aimed his rifle at me. "YOU'RE DEAD FUCKER!"
He fired at me, the loud pop of the rifle echoing in the small nursery, one of my satellites moved and flattened into a small flat disk that blocked the bullet. I turned and aimed the mana-lock at the guard who fired at me and fired. His own body erupted into flames as the bullet hit him. I snapped my fingers on my right hand and the remaining disks flattened into needles and fired at the two remaining guards, piercing their skulls. I fired my mana-lock at the falling bodies of the guards and incinerated them before they hit the ground.
With the hostiles eliminated I turned my attention to KC. The little boy had ran and hid underneath a small bed in the corner of the room when the guard started shooting. I stowed my mana-lock in the waist band of my jeans and walked over to the bed slowly with my hands raised, dispelling the star satellite spell.
"Lil' Chaser it's alright. It's me Chase." I said softly using the nickname that I had been calling him since birth. KC froze when he heard my voice then stick his head out from under the bed. I smiled softly at him as his eyes widened.
"CASE!" KC cried out and rushed out from under the bed and tackled my leg. He sobbed and clung to me, muttering utter gibberish as he rubbed hos head into my pants leg.
"It's OK, I got you Lil' Chaser. I got you." I said softly and patted his head.
<I have KC.> I said through the mental link. Louie responded immediately.
<IS HE OKAY!> Louie bellowed.
I reached down and picked KC up, he immediately grabbed onto my shoulders and clung tightly to me, burying his head in my neck and crying some more. I gave him a quick once over. He was wearing a hospital gown with toddler sized gown pants. His right wrist was bandaged up as well as his fingers on that hand.
'They took blood samples…no other injuries though. They were worried about damaging him. Looks like they fed him regularly too.' I thought then let out a sigh of relief.
<He's fine. Looks like they've been taking blood from him on a regular basis though.> I replied.
<I'll fucking kill that bitch!> Louie growled.
<Worry about getting out of here first!> I instructed. <Sin where are you?>
<Elevator shaft. Climbing up to the second level. The main elevator stopped working.> Sin said.
<That's to prevent evos from getting to the residual areas of the base on level two.> Haws explained.
<Well fuck…Iris can you get to Louie and Angie?> I asked.
<Yes but the second I leave the office I might get swarmed by guards trying to lead Karen to safety.> Iris said.
A loud screeching sound, like metal warping and bending echoed down the hall followed by inhuman hissing and screeches. KC cried loudly then held onto me tighter.
[Boss those reptiles from before broke free.] Bone-Lasher said. Hos voice startled me for a second. I had been actively repressing my connection to my evos the second I entered the base. I knew none of them would stand seeing me disrespected or abused and try to attack. My control must have slipped slightly when I saw KC.
[Thanks Bone.] I said then turned and channeled volt attribute mana throughout my body.
I dashed down the hallway, holding tightly onto KC and ended up skidding to the stop once I reached the main section of the floor. The thrads had already reached this section and were clambering all over the elevator. KC let out a scream that alerted all the thrads of our presence. They all turned and let out a loud hiss before charging us.
"Oh Fuck right off!" I yelled and drew my mana-lock and fired at the two closest thrads while holding onto KC. They erupted into flames then disappeared into ash. The others rushed past the scorch marks of their pack members and continued their advance.
I channeled float attribute mana then jumped into the air and kicked off a wall, floating up towards the beginning of the elevator shaft, I aimed and fired the mana-lock at the thrads below. I killed a couple more then stowed the gun and channeled burst attribute mana into my feet. I felt that now familiar twinge in my chest as I channeled both float and burst attribute mana and quickly ascended up the elevator shaft.
KC screamed and held onto me tighter, nearly choking me. It only took a couple of seconds for us to reach the fourth floor and I quickly stopped channeling mana as I landed on the floor. I shushed KC and rubbed hos back as I made my way down the secret hallway to the fourth floor.
"Sorry KC I know that had to be scary but I need you to be strong right now so I can get you to your mom and dad. Okay?" I said.
"Mamaw? Papaw?" KC looked up at me with tears and hope in his eyes.
"Yeah, you mom and dad. They're here as well, they've been looking for you but if you want to see them then I need you to be strong and listen to me. Got it?" I asked. KC nodded. I patted him on his head and smiled sweetly at the boy. "Good, now let's get going."
"Warning! Containment breech on level four! Warning! Containment breech on level four!" A voice echoed over the loudspeakers.
'Oh come the fuck on!' I thought as I started running, holding onto KC.
<Chase are you and KC okay?> Louie asked.
<Yeah we're making our way to the third level.> I replied.
<Wait! So you're on the fourth level?!> Louie screamed. I nearly tripped thanks to the sudden loudness of Louie's voice. I quickly corrected myself and picked up speed towards the end of the secret hall.
<Yeah but we're sa…> I stopped mid-sentence as I stepped out onto the main hallway of the fourth level I movement out of the corner of my eye. Off reflex I dropped low and grabbed KC tightly as we skidded across the ground.
A severed arm came flying over KC and mine's heads leaving a stream of blood in its wake. I skidded into the floor to ceiling window that separated the hallway and lower assessment floor. I looked over at the direction it came from and saw a thrad mauling a security guard. There were four other behind it.
"You gotta be shitting me!" I snapped as I channeled freeze attribute mana into my right hand and slammed my hand onto the ground. Ice shot from my hand and creeped across the ground and froze the mauling thrad and the guard. "JIGGLES! BONE-LASHER!"
Their crystalline structure shot from my farm crystal and landed in front of me. They emerged from their crystals and immediately charged the remaining thrads. Bone-lasher channeled volt attribute mana and jumped to the ceiling and twisted in mid-air and propelled himself towards the two thrads at the back. While Jiggles channeled Blast attribute mana into his hands and feet and propelled himself towards the two in the front and punched the first. His fist exploded on contact and demolished the face of the thrad, he quickly spun on his heel and socked the other thrad in the face as well. It's face crashed into the wall leaving a dentist before Jiggles fist exploded again.
Bone-lasher and Jiggles quickly dispatched the thrads as I stood up and quickly calmed down KC who was whimpering and crying into my sleeve.
<Chase? Chase?!> Louie yelled.
<We're fine! We're fine!> I exclaimed quickly. <What's going on up there?>
<I made it to Louie and Angie. We're holding up in their quarters, the elevator is down.> Sin announced.
<Standard procedure for a containment breech.> Louie said.
<Would that Barker asshole have a way to override the elevator lock?> Iris asked.
<Probably…> Haws replied.
"Boss the small human is leaking…" Bone-lasher said as he approached KC and me.
"He's scared Bone, he's young and small and has been through a lot." I said as I bounced KC a little.
"Little human, do not be afraid! The boss will keep you safe and we will keep the Boss safe!" Bone-lasher growled proudly. KC took one look at Bone-lasher and sniffled a little then laughed and reached out to touch Bone-lasher on his head. Bone-lasher let KC touch him and the tiny splicer started laughing and slapping Bone-lasher's head armor. I quickly move KC out if reach of Bone-lasher.
"No Lil' Chaser, never slap an evo the head or touch a evo you don't know." I said. KC looked up at me and stuck out his lower lip with tears threatening to cry again. I sighed and shook my head. "You can touch Bone-lasher but don't slap him, okay?"
"Okway!" KC replied with a broad smile. I moved him within touching distance of Bone-lasher and he giggled loudly and started rubbing his hand over Bone-lasher's armored head.
"Star Shaper, down there." Jiggles said looking down at the assessment floor of the level. I frowned and looked down at the window and felt my heart jumped into chest. All the thrads that I had seen caged up and being assessed were now free and attacking anything that wasn't a thrad and moved.
"Seriously? What's next? A fucking flying thrad?!" I exclaimed.
A rumble suddenly shook the whole floor. KC and I fell into Bone-lasher who dug his claws into the floor to keep himself steady. Out on the assessment floor a section of the ceiling dropped leaving a section of the ceiling dropped slamming into the assessment pods below. A section of the ceiling supports snapped free from the hole in the ceiling and swung down into the window in front of KC, Bone-lasher, Jiggles and me. I spun around and shielded KC from the flying glass as Bone-lasher and Jiggles moved to protect the both of us. Taking the brunt of the glass.
"Thanks you two." I said looking up at my evos.
"Nothing too much for you Boss!" Bone-lasher said he then froze and looked in the direction of the hole. "Something is coming!"
A roar echoed from the floor above from the new hole in the ceiling and a winged evo descended from the hole and snapped it's wings open. The new evo was in fact a flying thrad and from the more reptilian features it had on its face and body it was one of the ones that had been modified with ascended DNA and KC DNA. This flying thrad larger than all the other thrads that have been running around.
'OH COME THE FUCK ON!' I thought.
"Warning! Containment breech on level three! Warning! Containment breech on level three!"
<Chase, a experimental evo that was being assessed broke free…this might be my fault…> Haws said.
<How is that your fault?!> Iris demanded.
<I got discovered and I knocked the guard out but his gun went off and hit a generator. That generator powered the containment cages…so watch out> Haws said.
<Yeah…that's great…> I muttered. There was a moment of silence in the mental link followed by a loud groan from Iris, Louie and Haws.
<You already found that evo, didn't you?> Iris asked.
<Yep…it's down on the fourth level…" I sighed.
The flying thrad let out another loud roar that shattered the remaining glass in the hallway. KC screamed and clung to me tightly. The thrad suddenly froze and looked squarely at me.
"Fuck a duck…"
