"Ethan, the day you were born Gordon held you in his arms and told me your name would be Ethan. It was something we had never discussed before. We were that couple that did not want to know the gender of the baby or plan a name. We wanted it to be a surprise to us. 

I asked him why Ethan and he simply smiled at me then said because you were going to be firm, enduring, strong and long lived just like the definition of your name. We had just found out he had stage one cancer back then and he had beat it, but he wanted to bless you with a name that would allow you to find inner strength if the cancer ever resurfaced.
