At around 10 PM, Li Qingshan knocked on Shao Haoran's door. Since Shao Haoran was waiting for him, he didn't make the man wait long and immediately opened the door.
"Come in," Shao Haoran invited Li Qingshan in. "We're still waiting for Fang Cheng and Mo Jun."
Speaking of the devil, there was a knock on the door and Shao Haoran knew that the people outside the door were the ones that he was expecting. He opened the door as well and invited them in.
With the three men there, Shao Haoran knew that he could now speak up.
"Fang Cheng and Mo Jun were informed earlier," Shao Haoran started. "but I'll be leaving the base for good. I found a safe place to stay at and I'm inviting you guys to come with me."
The three men looked at each other upon hearing his words. They were all skeptical at what Shao Haoran was telling them, but they also knew that the man won't lie to them. They knew Shao Haoran long enough to know that he won't say anything uncertain, especially if it involves people's lives and safety.
"Is there really a place that's much safer than the base now?", Mo Jun scratched his head. "This base is already safe enough. It may not be as big as the ones in other cities, but we are getting by here."
"It's much safer there.", Shao Haoran explained. "The owner of the place calls it a "safe zone" and he also said that zombies can't enter the place. I stayed there for a couple of days and there really wasn't a single zombie who trespassed even when the place was only fenced with mesh wires. There wasn't even a gate there."
Disbelief flashed in the three men's faces. Such a place seems to be too good to be true, so they can't fully believe what they're hearing.
"Is there really such a place?", Li Qingshan asked.
"Yes," Shao Haoran nodded. "I already rented a room at the safe zone and it only cost me 5 crystal cores per bed. I rented a two-bed guest room for me and Baobao. Before I left, the owner was also planting rice and potatoes, and it looks like it won't be long before harvest."
"Rice?! Potatoes?!"
More than the cheap rental fee, what they are most surprised is the rice and potato. With the scarcity of food in the apocalypse, it can really be a haven for anyone if the place they live in have a sustainable source of food.
The three men were silent for a while, trying to digest what they heard from Shao Haoran. What Shao Haoran was describing seemed like truly a safe haven in this perilous days. However, because it seems too good to be true, they can't easily make a decision. The apocalypse have increased their level of vigilance against such perfect deals. Even if it was Shao Haoran, a trustworthy person, they still can't help if there's a catch to this deal.
"There's only one guest room with two beds available now.", Shao Haoran continued. "Well, the owner said that there might be more rooms later on, but for now, if the guest room is already rented out and there are more people coming, it's necessary to bring your own tent. Instead of the 5 crystal cores, he will just require people to provide physical labor."
"What kind of physical labor are we talking about?", this time, it was the smart Fang Cheng.
"I mentioned earlier that the safe zone owner was planting crops, right? So maybe something similar? He did mention that there are still a lot of things that need to be done around the safe zone."
Fang Cheng was carefully calculating the pros and cons of this deal. As the leader of a mercenary group, he had to think not only about himself but also about his group mates as well as their family members. He can't make a decision hastily, especially since he didn't want to put anyone in danger.
"I plan to bring Li Qingshan and either Fang Cheng or Mo Jun, whoever wants to be a representative of your mercenary group.", Shao Haoran said to the three. "There's only two beds available in the safe zone for now so I can only bring two people with me. You guys can come with me tomorrow to see the safe zone. You can decide whether or not you'll migrate there after staying for a while."
The three fell into deep thoughts after that. Shao Haoran allowed them some time to think. He understands that this is a big decision so he didn't urge them to make a hurried decision.
"Okay!", Li Qingshan suddenly exclaimed and slapped his knees. "I trust Shao Haoran so I'll go with you tomorrow. If it really is as you say, then I'll without a doubt pick up my family and live in that safe zone. What time will we be leaving tomorrow?"
Shao Haoran breathed a sigh of relief. In fact, he is more concerned with Li Qingshan's decision. Li Qingshan was a strong superpowered human but he didn't belong to a specific mercenary group or a base faction. He is more at risk every time he goes out on a mission because he isn't sure if he can entrust his back to his temporary party members during danger. In fact, if he unfortunately joins the wrong group, he might even be sacrificed to the zombies during a trip outside. And if something happens to him, his wife and child will be in danger too. In the apocalypse, you don't only have to be wary of zombies outside the base, but also blackhearted criminals inside the base.
"I just need to go to the trade hall to sell some items as soon as it opens, then we can go.", Shao Haoran pleasantly responded to Li Qingshan's words. "We can meet at the gate then."
"Okay, I'll be sure to meet you at the gate."
Shao Haoran then turned to the Fang Cheng and Mo Jun.
"How about you, guys?"
The two men looked at each other. At this point, they are still undecided.
"I'll discuss this with the team first. We'll meet you at the gate tomorrow morning with our decision."
"Fair enough."
At this point, there were no other things to discuss so the three men decided to leave. The three tapped Shao Haoran's back. While they can't fully believe that a safe zone such as what Shao Haoran described actually exists, they are still thankful that the latter thought of them and invited them to that safe zone.
The night passed by without any incidents. As soon as morning came, Shao Haoran heartily prepared for his journey back to the safe zone.
Leaving, he didn't bother locking the door to his house. As the house dues are about to be up, he knows that the base will soon send officers to collect payment and if they can't find anyone in the house, they'd reallocate it to someone else.
He went straight to the trade hall. The hall was already opened for half an hour so there were already people setting up stalls there. Shao Haoran already had a destination and an exchange price in mind, so it only took him fifteen minutes to complete his transaction.
Shao Haoran proceeded to the gate after. As he got closer, he saw Li Qingshan and Mo Jun with their respective backpacks as well as Fang Cheng hanging around.
"Mo Jun will be the one coming with you.", Fang Cheng greeted him. "You, guys, take care on your way."
Shao Haoran patted him in the back in reassurance. With Baobao already trotting towards the gate, Shao Haoran turned to his two companions for this journey.
"Let's go."
