" Sir, come here!"
The young child said with a concerned face, urging them to follow him. Normally Licht would pass along but this time his gut was telling him to follow this child as he subconsciously followed him to the house which it was quite a few blocks away from the main street.
The house itself was in shambles but the robust sandstone was holding it from crushing. The stench of the house was horrible outside despite having a clean interior. Moreover, there were a few children in the house and the boy led him to the place where a young girl was reading a book to others. She was diligently teaching others with the knowledge that she gained from books.
" Sister, we have the man that the old lady was describing."
The young boy pointed at Licht and others who were observing the situation with a calm expression. They briefly took a gist of the situation and guessed it might have something to do with Regina.
" You must be Mister Licht. I heard you from Miss Regina. She said you have an exceptional intellect that would help her in her need."
The young girl looked at him with admiration because she could see Licht was a smart man. Unlike Lisha who was indifferent and Daemon who was feeling confused, Licht never changed his expression while maintaining his calmness.
" She must be in trouble if you talk like that. Where is she?"
Licht said with a light tone, looking at her with a calm face. To his surprise the girl didn't flinch from his eyes, instead her eyes were sparkling with anticipation and respect for him.
" She is in prison due to the clash with the mayor. She protected the people that was overrun by the mayor and she was sent there with her companions before telling me to find you. She said you could find a way to release her."
Her words were true as Licht read her expression. He calmly rubbed his chin with a deep face, thinking of ways to release her. First of all, it was meaningless to meet up with him and he couldn't bribe him either since he had a bad reputation.
" It seems your people are in deep shit. I can assist you here, but it is risky."
Qattara opened her mouth as others looked at her. She knew it was impossible to release them unless paladins came here or they revoked his authority.
" I am listening."
Licht folded his arms, leaning on the doorframe while looking at her.
" It is impossible to let them out legally, but what if we break them out? Even the lord can't post a warrant unless they find a reasonable clause for their arrest, so orders and the army wouldn't chase after you. Besides, we could gather his intel from the intelligence guild or some ways to nullify your friend's crime."
These words immediately made Licht brighten up because it was possible as she said. He could afford an intelligence guild or find a way to gather the evidence for them after freeing them. No, he knew he had to break them out since this mayor seemed to be the type that would never let go of his victims.
" We have to hurry, brother. The mayor is notorious for leeching off poor women."
The young girl dropped a bomb on them and Licht didn't hesitate to tell her to guide him. He knew losing time was the worst thing he could do in this situation and he could kill everyone if things went south.
" Hmm, should we just break into the prison? I mean we could easily and so did others. Why did they bother being there in the first place?"
Daemon spoke with a confused face. He wasn't wrong either because there was no chance that normal soldiers would capture a group of masters that could topple a city with ease.
" You are right. Why did Captain bother being captured when she could snipe him from miles away?"
Licht pondered a moment, thinking something was missing. He was missing crucial information that would help him to solve this case.
" We need to gather evidence first to understand her."
