As the stifling heat of the afternoon gave way to the formation of heavy clouds, the sky opened up into a violent storm, initiated by a single drop that fell on the city.
Light, gliding through the urban air, had not yet reached the refuge of his own home.
With luminous mastery, he wove a shield of light, repelling the torrential waters as if he were encased in a sphere of incandescent force — just like a lighthouse that, in the midst of the fog, resists and guides, such was Light's resistance.
At that moment, flying with wings became a burden rather than a blessing, so Light resorted to the essence of his gift, light itself, to move through the sky.
Contrary to expectations, his speed did not decrease, but increased, making him reflect on the irony of the situation.
'In the end, the wings are a limit to the true extent of my ability...' Light sighed quietly. And yet, he maintained his aesthetic preference for using his power to create wings.
He reflected, as the raindrops turned to steam when they met his luminous shield.
Light's school robes fluttered as his speed increased, constantly turning into particles of light. Whenever he appeared in the distance, his face showed a deep calm as he lost himself in contemplation.
But his thoughts were interrupted when he reached his house.
Going downstairs, he made sure that no one saw him as he did so.
Opening the door with his key, he was greeted by his mother, who was standing in the doorway with a bag of shopping.
"Ara? You're finally back," said Sachiko. "Are you hungry, son? I baked bread today, and I can make you some eggs if you like, or you can get something from the fridge."
Finishing putting on her shoes, Sachiko tapped her toe twice on the floor and looked up, meeting Light's eyes.
"Okay, thanks, Mom, I'll turn around." Light paused. "Do you need help with the shopping?"
"Haha, thanks for asking, but I'm fine, I won't buy much," Sachiko said. "By the way, Light, did you hear about the new neighbor?"
Light, who had just finished changing her shoes for slippers, looked at her mother.
"No, I have no idea," replied Light. "But, Mom, you wouldn't mention something like that if it wasn't related to me, right?"
"Hahaha, as expected of my son," she laughed again. "Yes, you're right. But I won't tell you who it is. It'll be a surprise for you, I bet..."
Saying this, Sachiko burst out laughing.
Light frowned for a moment.
'Who could it be?' He thought for a moment, but couldn't guess.
Well, he knew there was no point in wasting time trying to guess who it was. From the way his mother acted, he knew that sooner or later he would find out. Until then, he remained indifferent as he went up to his room.
Later, eating a loaf of bread with eggs, Light saw his little sister come in.
"Good night, big brother..." she said as she rubbed her eyes.
"Good night," Light replied. "I've made fried and scrambled eggs, Sayu, if you like, you can have some."
Visibly happy, she smiled.
"Really?" she said. "Thanks~"
Going to the kitchen sink, she washed her hands and then returned with a cup of tea with milk.
As Sayu cut a slice of homemade bread, she heard Light ask: "Sayu, do you know anything about the new neighbor?"
"Huh?" She wondered.
Sayu, who had been asleep until recently, had finally put her brain to work...
"No?" She answered uncertainly, then said, "No, I have no idea. Who is this new neighbor?"
"I don't know either," Light shrugged. "Mom was all mysterious when she talked to me about it earlier."
"Maybe it's her?" Sayu muttered.
"Yeah?" Light raised an eyebrow with interest.
"Not at all~" Sayu replied with a mischievous smile.
Seeing her act like that, Light sighed.
"Okay, you don't have to say it if you don't want to," Light stood up. "Thanks for the food. I'm going out in a bit, tell mom not to expect me for dinner."
"Are you meeting your girlfriend?" Sayu asked with a mischievous look.
"Not this time," Light denied and added: "Clean up and put everything away when you're done."
"Tsk," she clicked her tongue and said a prolonged 'Yes'.
Light came out of his room not long after, already changed into a casual look that enhanced his attractive appearance.
He was wearing a black button-down shirt that fitted his proportioned physique perfectly, subtly outlining the contours of his chest. The sleeves were carefully rolled up to the elbow, adding a nonchalant air to his posture. It went with a pair of dark jeans that fell impeccably over his hips and legs, offering a glimpse of the attention he paid to the balance between comfort and style. Wearing only a minimalist wristwatch, Light exuded confidence.
"You look good, big brother," Sayu, who saw him downstairs, teased him: "Didn't you say you weren't going to meet your girlfriend? So who are you going to meet dressed like this? You're not going to tell me that... You're going to cheat on your girlfriend? Big brother, you dog!"
"Don't let your imagination run wild," Light tapped her forehead lightly.
Sayu put her hand to her stricken forehead and puffed out her cheeks.
"I'm just meeting a friend," Light replied, then put on gray suede shoes and left without further explanation.
As Light left, Sayu muttered sulkily: "Big brother... just wait. When I find your girlfriend, I'll tell her everything..."
Whether she was serious or not was uncertain. She grumbled a few more times, before returning to the living room to watch TV.

Hearing her doorbell ring, Asia got up and went to the door.
As she opened the door, Asia was taken aback, her voice rising in a tone that echoed her sudden joy and pleasant surprise. "Light-sama!" The words escaped in a rush, almost like an involuntary musical note.
With a smile as soft as moonlight, Light greeted her: "Good evening, Asia-chan. May I come in?"
Hastily, but with a touch of warmth in her voice, she replied: "Oh, of course, please come in, Light-sama." There was a tinkle of welcome in her words.
Asia handed him a pair of guest slippers, which were in fact to be worn for the first time...
In that exchange of greetings, Light noticed how the faint light from the corridor played with the shapes of Asia's pajamas, printed with stars and moons that seemed to glow with a life of their own.
The nightgown, although simple, molded to her body with a casual, youthful charm; the long sleeves a little large for her thin arms, and the pants gently outlining the curves of her legs.
Her hair, tousled by recent dreams, and the expectant gleam in her sleepy eyes, completed the image of someone who had been gently pulled out of a dream world.
Asia seemed enveloped in a homely aura, conveying a sense of intimacy and comfort that transcended her nightclothes. Light, for a moment, allowed himself to be absorbed by the cozy atmosphere she involuntarily created, feeling like a privileged intruder into the serenity of her nocturnal world.
"Would you like something to drink, Light-sama?" Asia asked.
Just as Light had watched her carefully, she did the same and realized that he was very handsome.
In fact, she had thought so ever since she first saw him, but until then she had had other things on her mind.
Now, looking at him, it was inevitable that she would think about what had happened the day before. She had even asked him... to hold her.
"Water, please," Light replied.
When Asia heard his reply, she couldn't believe how her mind wandered in the short space of a breath.
She replied softly and gently: "Right now." Even a little embarrassed, she maintained her inherent calm and gentleness.
