Telenovela and Televisa were two of her favourite shows.

She remembered her mother watching it with her and her younger sister when she was a kid. Those were the happiest days of her life. Her mother was a single mother, and her father abandoned them when her younger sister was just two years old to marry a wealthy woman. 

Jessie will never forget the fights her parents used to have every night when her father came home intoxicated and when her mother refused to put up with his gambling, he would beat her up. 

She felt relieved when he departed. At the very least, the house was transformed back into a peaceful home. 

She reminded herself to work harder so she could move her family out of the slum they were living in and into a more suitable place.
