We ate.
It was fun.
And after resting for a while, we set out again.
By morning we were supposed to reach the city gates.
The cats didn't complain.
Amiya though, panted all the way, and looked like she could die any moment now.
Halfway through I had to literally carry her.
I didn't mind though.
Cause her chest often pressed against my neck and it felt good!
"Are you really serious about taking over the world?" She whispered, kind of sleepy.
She'd been quiet for a while.
But now that she'd been talking, I could tell- she really was judging me if I was just joking or I really did want to take over the world.
Owls and bats- and loads of them just flying around in the dead of the night.
It was awfully quiet… eerily even.
"I am."
There was not a doubt in my mind.
I already died twice and it was pretty much clear I'd be very dead in ninety-seven days.
Which meant I had to get my revenge within that time. But I wasn't petty enough to just be satisfied with my revenge.
I wanted more.
And what was better than just taking over the whole world like the demon lords of the past?
There was just a problem though.
In order to declare myself as the lemon lord, I either had to marry a true demon royalty or become a demon myself.
Well, I couldn't do either so there went that.
Heh, who cared about demon lords and all that!
I'll just have to be the first human lord to take over the world! "MUAH AHAHAHAHAH!!!!"
"Wh-a?" Amiya had apparently fallen asleep.
Yeah, I was wondering why she was making those soft breathing noises….
'Sigh… fine…' So, we took a break for everyone to rest.
As much as I hated to waste time, I had to consider the health of my followers too…
Oh well.
***
We rested for a while and after sunrise, set out again.
I didn't need sleep and neither did I felt like sleeping, so I'd kept watch.
I didn't need to though.
Cause even if monsters sighted us, they just steered clear.
Did we have a beacon on us stating we were super powerful or something?
We weren't though, apart from the overpowered Lioness.
All that time did give me time to think though.
Think about the future and the past.
What I'd do, and how I'd do it…
Anyway, we ate some quick breakfast and inched closer to the city.
The border city- or Brolk town was one of the oldest towns in Blumrose. The original country began with three towns, and Brolk was one of them.
It's also known as the black sheep of Blumrose but we were going to ignore that part.
"If anyone asks, the cats are just my summon monsters," I said. Summoners and tamers were rare but not totally out of place.
The sun was strong and it was kind of annoying. I had to worry about bird droppings every now and then too.
Apparently, the birds loved to drop their shit whenever they saw people.
Amiya shrugged. "Don't worry, people have better things to worry about than coming up to you and talking about your pets."
Even now she didn't actually believe the fact that the two cats were indeed royal lions.
Well, maybe it was good for her sanity that she didn't believe.
Trees and grass.
Some birds, wild rabbits, and occasional wolves. That was about it.
No monsters in particular and not much wildlife either, at least not on the surface. The adventurers here probably worked hard to achieve this.
I'd read about all this before.
In order to find the actual rare or maybe exotic monsters, you'd have to dive deep into the west forest. The forests in the other areas around the town were basically clean, as the city hired adventurers fairly often to clean up the monsters.
But since I wanted to avoid that for the time being, I didn't worry much about that.
Instead, we just walked.
Eventually, even from a distance, we could see the town.
Perfectly covered on all sides with wooden walls, really tall walls.
There were about half a dozen gates and all of them were closed apart from just one.
People were getting in, out but the numbers paled in comparison to typical human towns.
'The Harpy mating season ended only today though-' So the trade routes would probably just be restored soon enough.
As we got closer to the city, the grass kind of disappeared and was replaced by a road. Kind of crude but a road regardless.
Anyway, we eventually made it to the gates and some guards questioned me and the lady.
They didn't even bother looking at the two cats.
Was monster taming always this casual?
"We mated and decided to stay partners for the time being," Amiya explained.
Both guards were wolf beastmen- a sub- demihuman species. They looked pretty much the same as Wolf demihumans but just with fur all over their bodies.
"Fair enough."
And the guards were cool about that.
This was a demi-human country. So naturally, if typical humans wanted to come in, they had to pass through the border checks.
So, when a local, vouched for me, the guards didn't bother making any investigations and were just cool about the whole thing.
If this had happened in the town I once ruled, then those poor guards would have immediately lost their jobs but- since this made it easy for me, yeah, I was feeling a bit hypocritic.
Oh well.
And with that done, we were in.
With just one warning.
Make sure the cats didn't go out of control and harm people- that's it.
'Well, that was easy…'
"I thought this place would be smaller…" I mumbled.
Border towns were generally small and just outposts for countries.
Yet, this one was pretty much the same size as our capital city.
At least some good 5000M wide. And I couldn't actually see an end after that either.
Houses were packed nicely, the roads were well maintained and people were happy, or looked like they were happy.
Humans, Elves, and mostly just demihumans!
All kinds!
Even some Alves!
No dwarves though….
Yes, lemon was intentional.
No, it's just a joke on my part and I won't be changing it...
