Emperor Tyran did not move, the king's hand was still stretched out hopefully waiting for the emperor to receive the goblet from him, Tyran instead scoffed and looked away.
So this king expects him to believe his story?right now he trusted no one what more a person who he believed wants his son's head.
"I decline"came Tyran's response.
The king shrugged, put the goblet on the table and sat beside the Emperor not uttering a word as he fumbled with his goblet, steadily taking a sip of its contents.
Tyran eyed him from under his lashes then his gaze fell to the hands clasped on his lap.
This was the first time he had refused a drink from King Parlu,a long time companion of his.The Parlu he knew was loyal to him,how come did he become a suspect overnight,he wasn't certain about his suspicions but he preferred the king a suspect for now till he found the real impetrator who could also be the person sitting next to him.
Fiona had been killed but he barely had any leads on investigating her killers except Dark,a Sorceror who could only be found when he wanted to.
He was most certain finding Dark would lead him to other suspects but doing so was close to impossible.
Fiona's killers had covered their tracks well, all leads led to nothing.
He wondered if the sorceror's had already started talking, that would definitely earn both he and his son more enemies, the birthhome workers had all be reported assassinated by his assassins so they wouldn't be a problem he had to find Dark's accomplainces and fast.Unknown to him they might be trying out some other new spells for further operation to eliminate his son.Dark hated him,he knew and many others, who could be living right under his noses.Tyran concluded making a journey to sorceror's city for clues would be his next stop after he receives Fiona's exact request that day from the knight.
He was faced with an incredibly difficult task.
Fiona had left the most difficult task to him and had just_died.
Tears welled up in his eyes as his thoughts drifted to her.
King Parlu gave his hand a light tap and the Emperor was jolted back from his world of thoughts.Tyran realized king Parlu had been talking but he hadn't been listening.
"Your imperial majesty are you alright"King Parlu eyed him closely.
"Yes...yes am alright"Tyran responded faking a smile."King Parlu,am here to ask you a few questions... that is apparently why I am here".
The king nodded
"But your majesty... If it please you...i will that you receive both healing and recuperation first before we begin discussing this...you are in bad shape I'll call the healers in at once"
"No... Parlu...it is my greatest wish that you keep my coming here confidential...No one knows about this"Tyran said, motioning for him to stop. The king bowed in response, narrowed his eyes and said
"Allow me then your majesty to bring you an alternative".
Tyran watched Parlu disappear, wondering what he was up to,the king seemed to be evading answering his question or was he just imagining things?
When he reappeared with a human, the emperor stared in shock but tried not to show it.
The human knelt before him, blindfolded, his lips sealed with huge shackles and hanging down from both his hands and feet.Tyran nodded, having fully understood what the king meant by an alternative.
Now he understood why he felt so weak after teleporting at such distance, normally a demon of his own caliber shouldn't be this Ill,he had been so engaged in investing Fiona's death that he neglected his own well being.Demons fed on human essence for vitality and energy replenishing and for weeks now Tyran hadn't had any.
King Parlu gave the man a push and he landed on his jaw.
"This is the last we have...you can have it your majesty".
Tyran wordlessdly stared at king Parlu, his eyes filled with gratitude then back at the human laying helplessly before him,his heart feeling no ounce of sympathy for the creature who was about to become a corpse.
The emperor stretched out a hand and his eyes glowed with a golden coloured light.
The man began to shrivel and dry up,his skin turning more pale as his energy flowed into the emperor. In a few seconds he went limp and dropped to the floor and by the time the emperor had taken all he was just a lump of dry corpse.
The emperor inhaled and exhaled periodically as he felt the energy course through his body,he felt his strength returning, his whole body revitalizing. When he inhaled once more,a smile broke across his lips.
"I am now certain King Parlu...you no longer have any excuses to delay this conversation any longer"
The king looked at Tyran, satisfied still holding his goblet and sat beside the emperor.
"Firstly I would like to express my gratitude towards your generosity"Tyran said
"It is to my greatest pleasure your imperial majesty but like I said great emperor...this is the last one...you know how we are short of human nutrients all over the realm,if this goes on am afraid cannibalism will take its toll on our kind again like in the old times or something worse".
Emperor Tyran's gaze dropped to the corpse on the floor.
Then again another of his neglected duties brought to his face,he wondered why the king of Urah his closest friend had said nothing about it.Neither had his knight, they were probably avoiding ruffling his feathers seeing he still mourned the empress.
The king was right, ever since the wall was built the king of the walls only threw out prisoners and offendeds who had been sentenced outside the walls and the demons would gather them and take them back, any additional humans they got were the suicidal.
The captured humans would then be distributed among each kingdom of the realm depending on the numbers of citizens in each kingdom.Every demon of each kingdom would gather in their capital city to recieve their own share of human essence. The rationing took place every week but due to human shortages it had now been reduced to every month and Tyran hadn't even had any from the previous month.
Human essence kept them going, kept them alive and in health. They would withness the terrified looks on the human's faces as their king's drained all their essences and for some reason the frightened look on those faces brought them great pleasure.
When Tyran didn't respond king Parlu added
"People have started talking"
Tyran held out a had to stop him from talking then turned to him.
"That's enough...I completely understand and I will hold a meeting with all six kings and their ministers tomorrow to address this issue...do your best to attend".
King Parlu nodded.
"Most certainly your majesty...I know absence will not be tolerated_"
"However that is not why I am here"
"Yes...yes your majesty I am yet to hear your reason for this unexpected visit"
"Leblos"
"What!"Parlu exclaimed, looking stunned.
Tyran shot him a suspicious stare.
"That magic was used to threaten the nursing maiden of my son...some people want him dead_"
"Your imperial majesty...I swear I had nothing to do with it"King parlu cut in trying to sound convincing,Tyran peered at him doubtfully though he could read fear in the king's eyes.
"You mu_must believe me...ah_i had nothing to do with that..e_its a lost spell my father only tau_tu_taught me as a blood line gift of the family bu_but I never for once used it".
Emperor Tyran didn't respond,he averted his gaze and stared straight at the wall.Wondering how much his mistrust was ripping his friend's heart apart, the Parlu he had always known wasn't the villainous scatheful kind he was nothing of the sort but Tyran still felt the need to warn him.
He returned his gaze back to the king and it hardened.
"If I ever find out you are behind this...infact don't let me find out cos if I do I'll make sure I finish the job with your family which you couldn't with my son".
King parlu's mouth fell open on hearing this and his blood went cold.He blinked severally watching the emperor as he swallowed with difficulty.
Tyran tried his best to look frightening and at the same time intimidating. His voice went hard mingled with spite.
"You know too well I drink the blood of my enemies...it is infact my finest wine...I'll drink their blood and then I'll drink yours, that is after cutting them both into tiny pieces of cos".
Tyran bit his lips repeatedly but tried not to make it noticeable as he watched the king's hands tremble. His threat was working perfectly fine yet some part of him felt bad throwing these hard words at him.
Emperor Tyran abruptly stood up and the King gripped his reinment falling on his knees with his head lowered.
"Your imperial majesty I didn't do it... I'd never will...you know of my loyalty to you...I swear I would never do anything to hurt the prince"His voice trembled.
When he raised his head and looked into Tyran's eyes,he could see they were wet but the tears didn't leak out.He thought he saw honestly and a measure of innocence in those eyes or was it just his own thoughts now going against his mind, for all he know the king could be faking these reaction.Just anyone could do that, still to him,the king didn't look insincere but Tyran averted his gaze and pretented not to care.
"Your_"King Parlu wanted to say but Tyran had faded from sight.
King Parlu stared at the had he had held the emperor's clothing in then he sank to the floor .
When he could no longer hold back the tears in his eyes,he buried his face in his palms to let them out,he realized he had not wept in a long time.
