Chương 31: All against a few
The great hall was packed with important guests,kings and their prime ministers from all six realms.
The throne stood at one end, unoccupied and on each side of the throne stood six seats, each larger seat, immediately accompanied by a smaller one.
The kings occupied the larger ones and on the smaller ones sat their prime ministers,with their knights surrounding every corner of the hall,eyes aloof ready for anything.
Indistinct chatter filled the hall as they awaited the emperor's arrival.
After what seemed like an eternity,the great door flew open and the hall immediately grew silent.
When all heads turned towards the door to see the emperor,they all stood up and dropped their heads till he took his seat on the throne and motioned for all to sit.
Tyran's eyes scanned the entire hall, from his right,next to him sat king maxmillian,king of Urah and his prime minister,next sat king Jamek, king of Edor the second kingdom of the realm,king Zemah followed,the king of polymus along with his prime minister at the farther end of his right hand.
On his left sat the king's of the fourth,fifth and sixth kingdoms,Zephron,king of Alteo,Cardul king of Cert and King Parlu,king of Sentah.
The emperor's gaze settled on king Parlu for a while whose head was lowered.Tyran could sense his nervousness from where he sat.
He looked away and cleared his throat.
"Welcome great kings to this gathering...your presence is most appreciated".
"The pleasure is ours your imperial majesty"they all chorused.
"Since I still have a lot to do I'll head straight to the point...the purpose of this gathering is to combat the current human energy shortages we are experiencing,as a result many civilians are getting sick and afraid if something is not done about this sooner I am afraid what happened in the ancient times might repeat itself".
Tyran paused and another chorus errupted from the occupants of the hall.
"All hail the great emperor,may he live long and may his days be long as the sun,moon and stars above us!".
"I haven't turned a blind eye to the welfare of my people and we are all fully aware that the human prisoners we get is not enough for the demons in Delvin that is why we have to seek other means to harness energy for our realm and I have devised a way to do that".
The king's threw glances at each other then all eyes settled on him.
King Jamek stood up with both arms clasped underneath the long sleeve of the red velvet garment he wore and his posture a bit lowerer than usual.
With his gaze fixed on the occupants in front of him,he said,
"How your imperial majesty?we are curious to hear this reason of yours"
Tyran inhaled deeply not knowing how this might sound,not knowingif his suggestion would be accepted or not but it didn't matter,he was emperor and would do however he pleased.
The opinion of the king's mattered but not so much,the results of this meeting would never outrule his decision.
The real purpose of this gathering was actually to reach an agreement with all six kings,for everyone to be comfortable with his idea,
Tyran had always wanted everyone to be comfortable with his ideas,had always loved to hear people's thoughts and opinions on his suggestions unlike the kings before him who just passed decrees and finalized on anything they thought was best for Delvin
That was one of the reasons the people loved him and his kings weren't excluded.
In this gathering would give them reasons and make them see why they should do this,besides they were already out of choices.
He watched them,all eyes were fixed on him,faces seeming expetant and awaiting a response which Tyran knew would definitely be turned down.
The emperor shut his eyes and reopened them then said,
"We will make use of savages"
A loud gasp immediately erupted from his audience followed by mumuring from all corners of the hall.
The king's we're not left out.They all whispered and nodded to each other, stupefaction written all over their faces.
The noise irritated Tyran,he raised a hand and the hall immediately grew silent.
"You opinions and thoughts on this are welcomed but I appreciate you do so in a civilized manner rather than display such barbaric actions in my hall".
Most of the occupants lowered their heads and apologies emerged from every corner of the hall.
King Jamek stood up,bowed and said
"Your imperial majesty,I mean no disrespect but we all know that is against our law from the very beginning,demons killing demons is a somewhat similar crime to cannibalism,it's unspoken and unheard of and can be likened unto an anathema...you imperial majesty I beg you to reconsider this".
"And I will change those laws"Tyran said in a rather domineering tone.
"I agree with the emperor"came king maxmillian's voice as he stood to his feet.
All eyes turned to fix on him.
"These_savages do not regard is as brethren.We are pray to them as Well as the humans,plus they are part of the reason for the shortage we are experiencing.The little human energy sources we get they shorten...they feed on us as well.Of what good are they to us or to this world.They should no longer be regarded to us as fellow demons but monsters...the Killing them wouldn't be breaking law". Maxmillian raised a clenched fist in the air with a deep frown on his face.
Some of the kings exchanged glances and silent nods while others shook their heads in disagreement.
King Cadul stood up and nodded to the king next to him then he bowed to Tyran and said,
"Your imperial majesty I as well as..."he motioned to the king's next to him"As well as some of us do not welcome this idea,in our laws_"
"Our laws?laws you say?so do we perish because of some law enacted years ago?Take a good look at the situation Cardul,if we don't act sooner our people will suffer.A demon made this laws and a demon will change them.It is true that these laws were made to restore order,for our own benefit not to kill others of our kind now if we no longer regard these savages as our kind then I don't see no law breaking"king max rubbed saliva off his mouth when he was done talking as he watched the king stare at him disapprovingly,then king Cardul quietly took his seat.
The great hall grew silent for a moment until the Emperor finally spoke.
"If any of you have any ideas on how to get this essence we seek I would like to hear it"
King Cadul cleared his throat and stood up again.After bowing to the emperor he said.
"Your imperial majesty,I suggest we cut a deal with the humans".
Mouths immediately went agape on hearing this and emperor Tyran raised a brow,eager to hear what he meant by that.
