Chương 8: A new home (2)
Feeling the bloodlust coming from further inside the base the elderly man sitting in front of miro and Adam waved his hand and a barrier appeared around the three. "now that the distractions are out of the way and I have heard about this boy, or Cain as he is called. I believe that I should mention that the academy is looking for its next back of students, do either of you have any ideas of who we should be looking for?"
Hearing that the academy, a place where the most prestigious of families send their children so they can learn about the universe, magic, martial arts, and the like was opening for its next batch of candidates Adam was confused as the next test wasn't supposed to happen for another month or so "sir, if I may be so bold as to ask. Wasn't the next test not to happen for a while?"
hearing Adams question the man's face turned solemn "our enemies have become more active of late and have breached the first border and are moving to the second. I will not lie, the reason that I sent you on the mission to look for Cain was so that we could put him into the academy. From the reports from the back that he came from he has a great deal of importance to those things and may very well be the thing that could end this war."
Hearing what the man had said both miro and Adam were shocked "what do you mean that the first line was breached?!" looking at miro and his sudden outbreak the man said, "the basterds brought a class six star eater and made it eat the first border home star to kill all life in that solar system."
After saying this the mood of the room became dark. Speaking up about something else Adam said "why do you want to put that monster into the academy with normal people?" looking at Adam he just said, "because he survived a class three beast attack unscathed, and that knife that your holding. It is the tooth of a class three blizzard wolf."
Back where Cain was, he realized that he had let his bloodlust out and began to rain it in. Looking at his guide he apologized "sorry for that. We can continue now." slowly nodding his head, the guide took him to his room without further incident. Arriving at his room Cain thanked the guide and then walked over to the bead and sat down in a cross-legged position and began to focus on his mana to test something.
Letting his mind enter that white space he slowly opened his eyes to get to work. 'he said that beasts could use magic instinctively, I want to see if I can find these spells in their genes and as them to my own'.
Starting with one of the smaller things he had eaten he found the bio-map, a sort of data storage containing all the things that made that creature so he could study it without the creature in front of him at that moment, he began to look through its genes.
After a while, he found a dormant gene that seemed odd, unlike the other genes like for growth that would activate when to creature needed to grow or blood clotting that would be active when the creature was bleeding. This gene looked like it could be turned on and off at will.
Activating the gene a small flame began to form in front of the creature, turning the gene off the flame disappeared along with a small amount of mana. Realizing that this was the gene that he was looking g for he began to study it further to understand how it worked so that he could change it and many even make his own in the future.
Making a bio-map for just this gene and a bio-folder, a collection of bio-maps so that he could easily find what he was looking for, he began to look through his other bio-maps for simpler genes to add so he had more to study. While he was looking he found something interesting, a gene that made a spell, which he had named magic genes, or MG for short, that was active but didn't drain mana.
Looking into it further he realized that it was draining mana it just used so little that it was negligible.
After studying this MG he realized that the reason for the low cost was that it used the creature's body as a place for its effect. The MG that he was looking at gave a small but noticeable increase in the speed of the creature he was looking at. The creature in question was a cat about the size of a golden retriever that had short fur and sharp claws when he was hunting this cat he noted that after he had eaten it he didn't change much besides the normal stuff. Which was strange as he was expecting to gain its speed.
After finding this gene he realized that the reason that he didn't get the cat's speed was because he didn't add its MG. Something he found out while in the forest was that he could choose what he added at that moment and what to store for later. Looking back at the bio-maps of a few other things that he had eaten he only found a couple of these passive MGs.
Something he did find though was that adding more mana to the passive MG, or PMG, would increase the effect that it gave in proportion to the mana given, so if he gave all of his mana to the speed PMG he could reach a speed four to five times his max speed in his speed form in just his base form for roughly five minutes. And this was without optimization. Looking through all of his bio-maps he realized the rarity of PMGs compared to normal MGs was about five times, so for every five normal MGs, he would get he would find one PMG.
Felling a disturbance in his physical body he left the white space and opened his eyes.
(a few minutes before in the old man's office)
Standing up Adam exclaimed, "that's a rank three blizord wolf fang?!" looking at Adam, the old man spoke again "yes it is. by the way, I believe that the boy in question should have reached his room by now how about we go meet him, hm?" unable to keep up with the sudden change Adam asked, "why would we go see him?" hearing the question the old man stood up and began to walk to the door and said, "because I feel like it."
