Chapter 64: The last of Vanko
Ah!
As the expo suddenly turned into a battlefield, the crowd hurriedly backed away. However, many people didn't leave; they gathered around, recording videos on their phones while watching the excitement. Andrew and Howard were among them.
At this moment, Ivan in the gray suit shouted towards Tony on the stage, "Tony Stark, you and your Stark family are all thieves. I the last of the Vanko family has come for revenge."
"Vanko?"
Howard was taken aback. Was it the son of an old traitor friend coming to seek revenge on Tony?
"The Vanko family? Never heard of it. Besides, you are the thief. You stole my Arc Reactor."
Tony took flight, raising his left hand to prepare to fire a pulse cannon at Ivan. But Ivan's electric whip hit Tony's palm, causing the cannon to explode with a loud crackle, producing sparks.
"The Arc Reactor belongs to our Vanko family."
Ivan roared, swinging his whip fiercely at Tony. Tony didn't dare to confront it head-on and flew to the side to avoid it. The whip split the exhibition platform in half, leaving a red mark where it cut.
"My grand opening!"
Tony was greatly displeased. He released two miniature missiles from his back, aiming them at Ivan. Ivan swung his whip, destroying the missiles in mid-air, creating a blast of wind that drew gasps from the crowd.
Tony took the opportunity to charge towards Ivan, but Ivan retaliated, knocking Tony down. He then swung his whip, entangling Tony and causing fluctuations in his control panels due to the electric current.
"Come to me."
Ivan grinned fiercely, retracting the whip, causing Tony to fly uncontrollably towards him. Ivan punched Tony's faceplate, sending him flying once again.
Then, Ivan used the same tactic, pulling Tony back. However, this time, Tony accelerated midway and tackled Ivan, causing both of them to crash onto the ground. Tony fiercely pummeled Ivan's faceplate with his fists.
Ivan took a few punches and forcefully flipped Tony over. He then got up and whipped fiercely at Tony.
Tony rolled away just in time, releasing a barrage of guided missiles that exploded on Ivan's faceplate, temporarily blinding him.
Seizing the opportunity, Tony pounced on Ivan. But Ivan swung both whips, firmly entangling Tony. Due to the electric current, Tony's systems began to destabilize.
"Tony Stark, your end has come."
Ivan roared while controlling his shoulder-mounted missiles. Tony's face turned serious, clenching his fists, showing some hesitation.
Recently, Tony had developed a powerful laser device on the back of his hand. It was capable of cutting through even the Iron Man armor. However, with so many spectators around, there was a high risk of accidentally injuring them with the laser.
While Tony was hesitating, a black-armored figure suddenly charged out and sent Ivan flying, rolling on the ground. It was Howard, unable to resist when he saw his son in danger.
"This is the classic 'beat up my son, here comes the father' situation."
Andrew joked. Indeed, Ivan's life experiences were quite similar to a novel protagonist, but unfortunately, he only had the fate of a villain, not a protagonist.
Seeing the black-armored figure, Tony asked irritably, "How did you guys get in? Didn't Stark Industries' security do their job?"
"The son of the Vanko family. The Arc Reactor was jointly researched by your father and Howard Stark."
Howard ignored Tony and shouted at Ivan, who was getting up, "Furthermore, Howard didn't betray your father. When he drove him away, it was to protect him."
"Protect him? Do you know how my father died? He died in poverty, unable to afford medical treatment, died in poverty."
Ivan angrily yelled, "It's all because of the Stark family. I will make them pay."
"Your father's poverty and inability to afford medical treatment weren't your responsibility? With your ability to develop the Iron Man armor and the Arc Reactor, couldn't you earn money to buy medicine?"
Tony shouted, "I don't know the grudges of the previous generation. I only know one thing: you're a waste."
"It's all your Stark family's fault."
Ivan had no response. He roared loudly, preparing to launch another attack. At this moment, Obadiah's roar came through the communication channel, "Ivan, you madman, get out of there!"
Ivan cursed and threw a bomb towards the crowd. Then, he flew straight up into the sky and escaped into the distance.
Tony hurriedly rushed towards the bomb, then tossed it high up into the air. The bomb exploded in the sky.
Tony let out a sigh of relief. He turned his head and found that the black-armored figure had disappeared. He grumbled, wondering if that guy was a ghost. He seemed to appear and vanish at will.
Next, it was time to clean up the mess. Numerous reporters rushed over to interview Tony, but he ignored them and walked towards Andrew, who was preparing to leave.
Seeing Andrew, Tony felt a bit embarrassed. After all, he had planned to show off in front of the man, but instead, he was beaten and thrown around.
Tony went straight to the point, "Mr. William, or should I say Ghost rider. I want to buy the small space station from your Corporation."
"Sure, I will let Susan talk to you about the specific price. However, when Reed is going up to the space station, two people from my Corporation will accompany him. We have a little experiment to conduct."
Andrew nodded; it was time to earn some extra money, considering the funds required for the takeover of Hammer Industries.
Moreover, Andrew had little interest in the space station. When the time was right, he would establish bases on the Moon and Mars. Robots weren't afraid of harsh environments.
Tony had no objections, and he nodded, "No problem."
After discussing the business, Andrew didn't linger and left with Howard. Tony felt a bit displeased. He thought Andrew could at least mock him a little. Ignoring him completely made Tony feel hurt.
"Being ignored means the other person doesn't even consider you a threat," JARVIS commented.
At that moment, a chubby man, sweating, ran towards them. Tony, who had a lot of pent-up frustration, immediately shouted at him, "Happy, let's talk about today's security issues."
After lecturing Happy, Tony handed the aftermath to his capable assistant, Pepper, and returned home to investigate the Vanko family.
"The Arc Reactor was jointly researched by my father and Anton Vanko?" Tony frowned. It was undoubtedly Ivan Vanko, Anton Vanko's son, who attacked earlier.
Thinking about it, Tony called his good friend Rhodey and asked him to help investigate Ivan Vanko and the connection with Hammer Industries. He had a gut feeling that there was a link between them.
Rhodey received the call and remained silent for a moment before speaking, "Tony, I shouldn't tell you this, but you're my good friend, and I can't keep it from you. The military chose me as the pilot for the new armor, which is produced by Hammer Industries. In fact, I am currently at Hammer Industries' hq in Queens. Hammer is planning to exhibit the new armor at the expo."
"...," Tony was speechless. He cursed, "You traitor."
"I'm a soldier, I have to obey orders from above."
Rhodey said, "Tony, you don't want to give the armor to the military, and they need to find another partner. On this matter, the military is not in the wrong."
"Not wrong? Ivan Vanko is no good person. You've all been manipulated by him."
Tony snorted and said, "Rhodey, this matter could lead to a huge disaster. You must help me investigate."
Rhodey hesitated for a moment and said, "Alright, I'll look into it for you. But Tony, this matter is sensitive, and you shouldn't act rashly. Wait for my call."
"Do your best."
Tony hung up the phone, feeling annoyed. Then, he got up to repair his armor. No matter how many other armors were out there, Tony Stark firmly believed that his own Iron Man armor was the best.
Because this armor was created by Tony Stark himself.
