Chapter 15: The Knights of Peace
Iron Monger delivered a powerful blow to Iron Man's head, his laughter echoing through the air. "Tony, thanks for providing me with the final golden egg. With this, I'll become the wealthiest man in the world."
"Can't you aspire to something greater? This pursuit seems like a failure for a villain," Tony retorted, despite feeling dizzy. Simultaneously, he discreetly activated his suit, preparing to take flight alongside Iron Monger. If his assumption was correct, Iron Monger lacked the necessary anti-freeze equipment.
Iron Monger grunted coldly, summoning a missile from his back to eliminate Tony once and for all. In that moment, a black figure dashed forward at incredible speed, colliding with Iron Monger and sending him rolling on the ground.
The black figure revealed itself to be none other than Howard in a formidable suit adorned with a pigeon emblem. Smirking at the fallen Tony, he remarked, "You're the most disappointing Stark I've ever encountered!"
"Do I know you?" Tony responded, disgruntled. He then noticed the arc reactor on the chest of Howard's suit and muttered with a touch of madness, "Another thief."
"I haven't stolen anything from you, and besides, my reactor is more advanced and powerful than yours," Howard retorted, snorting derisively as he unsheathed an axe from his back. He prepared to strike down Obadiah, who was getting back on his feet, as this bald man had dared to harm his son.
In that moment, Trask's voice resounded in Howard's mind, "Hey, have you forgotten your mission?"
"Taking out this man can also save lives," Howard murmured, directing his words towards Obadiah and Tony. "We are the Knights of Peace, here to save lives. You two continue your fight and pay no attention to us."
Following his words, Howard rushed to the side of a bus and cleaved through its side with his axe. Soon, several rudimentary robots, resembling human-sized steel skeletons, flew in from a distance, albeit with a slight clumsiness, attempting to rescue the people on the bus.
Due to time constraints, these robots were basic in design, serving as makeshift rescue units for the time being.
"Knights of Peace?" Tony and Obadiah exchanged confused glances.
Obadiah silently cursed, "Then why did you just hit me? If your purpose is to save people..."
Obadiah hesitated, activating his machine gun in an attempt to shoot Tony once again. However, Tony swiftly took to the skies, successfully deceiving Obadiah. Black smoke billowed from Obadiah's feet, and he chased after Tony with great momentum.
Howard looked disdainful and commented, "So much black smoke, it's evident that it's an inferior creation."
Meanwhile, many robots joined the battlefield, saving injured soldiers and contractors scattered on the ground and within the buildings. Both sides were taken aback by this unexpected development.
One of the men in suits intended to intervene, but Trask, who had transformed into a towering robot, coldly addressed the suit, "We are pacifists here to save lives."
As Trask raised his hand, a laser beam shot forth from his index finger, carving a deep crack into the ground.
The men in black-and-white suits were startled and chose to ignore the robots, focusing instead on eliminating S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and the military.
The robots wasted no time, swiftly attending to the injured soldiers. Interestingly, not all wounded individuals were attended to.
A dissatisfied wounded man voiced his complaint to a passing robot, "Why didn't you save me? I had a broken leg."
"Because you had given up on yourself," Trask replied coldly. He led the robot to safety, relocating the rescued contractors. The saved individuals cried tears of joy, unsure of the situation but grateful for their rescue, as that was more important than anything else.
Amidst the robots' diligent efforts, the Wind Demon transformed into a violent gust of wind and entered a burning building, rescuing additional contractors.
Coulson wore a perplexed expression, questioning the sudden appearance of a group of pacifists determined to save lives.
"It's strange, but it seems to be a positive development," Coulson muttered, retrieving his communicator and asking in a low voice, "Rhodes, when will the fighter jets arrive?"
Colonel Rhodes, Iron Man's friend, responded through the communicator, "They are already en route and should arrive shortly."
"Excellent," Coulson replied, lowering the communicator. His expression carried a mix of emotions, realizing that he had underestimated the power of the suits this time.
Trask reported to Andrew, "Boss, five Raptor fighters will arrive in three minutes."
"It seems the situation is under control. Ensure the safety of the contractors," Andrew nodded. While American fighters might struggle against Iron Monger and Iron Man, dealing with the black and white suits wouldn't pose a significant challenge. These suits were far inferior in performance and defense compared to genuine steel suits.
Suddenly, the previously arrogant black and white suits fell to the ground in unison. The arc reactor on their chests emitted a surge of electricity, instantly electrocuting the drivers within.
There was one exception—Iron Monger, who had been carried into the sky by Iron Man. His body remained frozen, narrowly escaping the impending calamity.
"Boss, there's a problem with the Ark reactor developed by Obadiah. It's on the brink of overheating and will explode," Howard and Jarvis urgently informed their respective masters. "The Ark reactor possesses tremendous energy, and once it detonates, the surrounding area will be reduced to ruins."
Tony felt a sense of helplessness as he realized he didn't have enough time to evacuate all the black and white suits. Gritting his teeth, he instructed Jarvis to locate Pepper's whereabouts. At that moment, Tony's sole focus was on saving Pepper.
Filled with anguish and guilt, Tony understood that these people had lost their lives because of him.
Andrew's eyes gleamed with excitement as he swiftly transported most of the individuals near the Stark Building into his realm of illusions. Tony Stark, Coulson, and the people who had previously entered the illusion were excluded, but Pepper was inadvertently pulled into the illusion.
Within the illusion, Andrew informed everyone about the impending explosion of the Ark reactor. He presented them with an ultimatum, saying, "You have two minutes to sign the contract. If you do, I'll save you. Otherwise, you'll die here."
It's important to note that within the illusion, two minutes equated to a mere two seconds in reality.
The people trapped in the illusion exchanged uncertain glances. Lacking the ability to communicate verbally, they were left to ponder their options individually.
Pepper's eyes flickered with insight as she chose not to sign the contract. The explosion resulting from the black and white suits was no trivial matter, and for this "god" before her to save them, he would need to remove the suits from the vicinity. By abstaining from signing, she could secure her escape, unless no one signed the contract.
However, that outcome was highly unlikely. Fear of death was a natural instinct, and the conditions presented by this enigmatic "god" were deliberately puzzling.
"No wonder he didn't allow anyone to communicate," Pepper thought to herself, realizing that approximately five hundred people hadchosen to sign the contract. Once again, Andrew reaped a significant fortune.
"Obadiah turned out to be quite the benefactor, providing me with so many souls," Andrew whistled, as his Harley motorcycle autonomously roared to life and shot up from the ground, arriving at the entrance of the Rebirth Building. Andrew gracefully descended onto the motorcycle from the building.
Suddenly, a pitch-black flame engulfed his body, swiftly spreading to the Harley motorcycle, causing it to undergo a rapid transformation.
This black hellfire was a new flame that Andrew had evolved after consuming the Spirit of Vengeance. It surpassed Johnny's red flame in power and intensity.
