The Killer Croc wanted to go up and retort, but he remembered being abandoned since childhood, hiding in the sewers every day. Unlike the four Ninja Turtles, who had a rat grandfather to support them, speaking a few words was the result of his own cleverness and eagerness to learn. However, his pitiful vocabulary couldn't compare to the guy on the shore. He decided to continue enduring it.
Fortunately, his mutation was towards crocodiles, a cold-blooded reptile with a slower metabolism, not prone to anger easily. Moreover, his mutated brain suffered some damage, making it difficult for him to grasp Robin's sophisticated insults. He was still trying to comprehend the old insults when new ones kept coming.
"Hey, Barbara, Thea and Selina will enter the battlefield in one minute. We need to lure him out. I'll open a channel just for you. Join in the cursing," Felicity hurriedly said through the earpiece.
"Me?! Join the cursing?" Barbara couldn't believe it. Having received a high-quality education since childhood, she had never done anything like this before. She felt a bit nervous. Could she do this? But seeing Robin getting red-faced and worked up while cursing, it seemed quite satisfying? A strange sense of guilt arose within her. Was this what they call learning bad things in three days after three years of good education?
As a modern educated woman, she couldn't leave any regrets for herself. From managing household chores to fighting off malware and climbing over walls, she had achieved both. To deal with future love rivals and thugs in the future, to verbally dismantle them to the point of helplessness, it seemed she needed to fill in this gap. Today was a rare opportunity. No need to say more, let's do it!
"I found a mixed-gender version for you. It is titled 'Leave Them Wishing They'd Stayed in Bed, 2007 Trial Version.' It's said to be quite effective. Let's give it a try. I'll set up the channel first. Robin, explain the instructions to you. Hehe," Felicity said excitedly through the earpiece, brimming with enthusiasm like never before.
Instructions? Just shout, right? Barbara was a bit puzzled.
Robin, afraid of affecting her, stood three meters away, and solemnly said, "Darling, you need to pay attention to a few things. First, breathe in from your abdomen, let the air pass through your chest and then to your vocal cords. Don't release your voice all at once; do it gradually. Let me demonstrate."
Without waiting for Barbara's response, Robin stood straight, puffing out his chest, and performed several so-called standard vocal exercises, like an opera singer. Feeling satisfied with himself after the demonstration, he even gave Barbara a thumbs up, encouraging her to give it a try.
Actually, Robin got a bit carried away. Though usually quiet and reserved, his demeanor was influenced by Batman. Bruce Wayne hadn't laughed since his parents died. Whenever you saw him grinning from ear to ear, it meant he was under the Joker's control.
Today, under Felicity's guidance, Robin's normally suppressed youthful spirit was ignited. He felt exhilarated by the cursing, and all the gloom that had weighed him down previously vanished.
Seeing her boyfriend next to her, full of sunshine and fighting spirit, Barbara couldn't help but think, 'Is this really my Robin? He's never been this goofy before.' If Batman came back and saw his proud disciple like this, he'd surely be dumbfounded.
"Ah, I'm back, everything's set up. Barbara, can you hear us?"
"Very clearly," Barbara replied.
"Then let's begin."
Meanwhile, in the center of the lake, Killer Croc watched as not only the young man but also the woman beside him started cursing. Were they teaming up to curse him? Hmph, he thought, his blood circulation was slow; he wouldn't get angry! Did they think his crocodile skin was fake? He'd have them know that every inch of his skin was thick all over, especially his facial skin, which was exceptionally tough!
Relying on his innate talents, Killer Croc listened calmly from the lake, but soon realized that this time was different. Unlike before, where it was just unpleasant and insulting, this time the male-female tag team cursing was unexpectedly powerful.
Perhaps because they were a couple, their voices matched perfectly. Coupled with Felicity's deliberate coordination, the male and female voices even created a bit of harmony.
Barbara felt quite a bit uncomfortable at first, but quickly utilized the special vocal techniques Robin had taught her. Her high-pitched voice complemented Robin's deep tone, resulting in a strange physical phenomenon where the mixed voice became even more penetrating, causing ripples to spread across the lake's surface with each uttered insult.
As they continued cursing, Barbara completely abandoned her restraint and even used the melodious tone she had learned in choir as a child. Occasionally, she would smile and wink at Robin, her voice shifting between holy and seductive tones with the changing mood of her words.
Robin looked at his beloved with a face full of happiness. It was the first time he had discovered her potential. He absolutely loved this saintly yet seductive tone of hers, feeling that regardless of her identity or profession, she was the woman he loved the most.
Their affectionate display completely enraged the Killer Croc in the center of the lake. As a thirty-year-old single cold-blooded humanoid creature, he couldn't suppress his anger anymore. 'You two are going too far!' he thought. 'If you want to flaunt your affection, do it at home! Why do you have to hurt me like this?' The previous indifference to honor and disgrace, watching flowers bloom and fade in the courtyard, was all thrown to the back of his mind. Now, there was only one thought: he wanted to burn this couple alive!
The Killer Croc forgot his initial intention for hiding in the center of the lake. In order to raise his own momentum and drown out their voices, he roared "Kill" and charged out of the lake.
This move was inspired by a passage from a web novel he read as a child in the sewers. It was supposedly a novel translated from China. In the book, whenever the protagonist was bullied or surrounded by enemies, he would shout "Kill," and then his strength would surge, allowing him to defeat all his foes. There was actually another phrase, "Break for me," but he felt it lacked momentum, so he abandoned it.
As a child, he was bullied and beaten every day because of his appearance. Every time he shouted this word, he would gather the courage to resist. Over time, many people began calling him the Killer Croc, a name he actually quite liked, at least that's what he thought.
The two on the shore were feeling refreshed, as if all the troubles had disappeared—the disappearance of Batman, the chaos in Gotham, everything. They felt as if they could cover themselves with the sky even if it fell. If the timing hadn't been wrong, they might have almost taken the sky as their blanket and the ground as their bed for a wild encounter.
"Be careful, he's coming out," Felicity, controlling the drone, was truly the best teammate of 2007, reminding them just in time. They just realized that they almost forgot there was still an enemy in the lake!
