Parallax was coming, and even Kara found it tricky to plan for. She wasn't worried about herself but rather the countless lives on Earth.
Parallax creatures were the embodiment of fear, an emotion unavoidable for all living beings. When creatures faced death, fear surged—a massive, inexhaustible fuel for Parallax's power.
"We've got to take the initiative, Hal," Kara reminded him.
"And how exactly do we attack it?" Hal asked, deflecting slightly. "Let's not forget—it's out in space. Can you even survive out there?"
Kara squinted at Hal, her expression sharp. "Are you serious right now, Hal? We're talking about a potential extinction-level threat to Earth, and you're getting sidetracked?"
"Well... I'm not sure," she admitted reluctantly. Kara had never dared venture beyond the atmosphere. The highest she'd flown was to the edge of it but never further.
Hal's skepticism wasn't entirely misplaced—Kara genuinely didn't know if she could survive in outer space.
An awkward silence settled between them. Theoretically, a Kryptonian could survive in space, but no one wanted to risk their life testing the limits. Even with her immense power, Kara wasn't eager to gamble recklessly.
She recalled a story she'd read in All-Star Superman, where Superman absorbed too much solar radiation by staying too close to the sun. His cells overloaded with energy, leading to his death. That scenario stuck with Kara—power, even in excess, could be dangerous.
The silence dragged on. Finally, Hal spoke. "Well, sitting here isn't solving anything. Let's call for backup."
Hal reached out to his closest allies. First, Thomas Kalmaku, an IT expert and a trusted friend. Then, Carol Ferris, the current executive director of Ferris Aircraft and someone Hal clearly had a soft spot for—his lingering glances made that much obvious.
Meanwhile, Kara contacted Dani, asking her to join them at Hal's house. She avoided calling Clark or Bruce—Clark needed to focus on his burgeoning relationship with Lois, and Bruce deserved a rare break from his never-ending work.
Soon, their friends arrived. Dani gave Hal an amused look. "Is he the green guy I saw earlier?"
Suppressing a laugh, Kara introduced Hal. "Dani, this is Hal Jordan, also known as Green Lantern."
"Noted," Dani said nonchalantly before turning her attention back to Kara. She gestured toward the green ring floating above her head. "What's that about?"
Kara sighed. "Apparently, the ring has decided I should be a Green Lantern too."
Dani smirked. "What, did he propose?" she teased in a low voice, shooting Hal a mischievous glance.
Rolling her eyes, Kara clarified, "No, absolutely not. That's not how it works."
Hal, clearly ignoring the jab, started briefing everyone on the situation. Kara supported the explanation, keeping her own identity discreet. Although she wore no mask, the psychological misdirection of her glasses was enough to maintain her anonymity.
Hal explained the Parallax threat and the devastating toll it had taken on the Green Lantern Corps. A team had already tried to block and seal Parallax, only to be completely annihilated.
"Why not ask the Corps for more help?" Carol suggested, concerned.
Hal shook his head. "They've already decided not to make further sacrifices. Their priorities are... elsewhere."
"So it's up to us," Kara said firmly. "We can't wait for someone else to save us—we have to save ourselves."
But the logistics were daunting. Confronting Parallax meant entering outer space, and Kara still wasn't certain she could survive out there.
Hal turned to her, his expression serious. "That's why I think you should consider using the ring."
